Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread

I read somewhere, Screamscape I guess, that SF registered the name Titan again. Maybe that is a glimpse into our future?? We've been road this road many times, maybe I should just stop now. Glad to hear the LEDs on Fireball look good, now if they could only do that with the Eagle (at a minimum the Lift and First Drop) -

They choose the Ninja because it has the lowest coaster ridership in the park, so they are trying to get people back in the line. As far as this VR idea, if executed well it could be good but I see it as troublesome and a maintenance nightmare. Probably won't work most of the time. -

I was fortunate enough (I guess) to ride it back in '84. From what I can remember it was slow, boring and a general lame experience. I rode it after the incident if that makes any difference. -

I got the job, but the timeframe is still up in the air. Not to get too much into my personal life, but I have a couple procedures (one inpatient surgery while the other outpatient) coming up in March & April to hopefully kills a few of the brain tumors and cryogenically freeze the kidney tumor (I'll have kidney cancer the rest of my life, due to my genetic disorder). Whether I live another five years or fifty years, I want to spend it doing what I love. I have a lot of loyalty to Six Flags, especially to certain individuals at the company. It's honestly pretty cool that Jim Reid-Anderson, the President & CEO of Six Flags (who is in the announcement videos), and I have become pen-pals over email. It even takes him less time to respond than it takes me....and the man oversees a company with 30,000 employees. I'll be talking to the management of HR in the coming days, as I want to work out the best times for them and to see if I can get their "blessing" so to speak. It should be a great summer of Always Smiling And having fun in the shadow(s) of Rollercoasters, a sound that is as refreshing as listening to the waves as the Tide comes in and out. Best of luck on those procedures Josh, and as always we all appreciate your updates. You are definitely the lifeblood of the SFSTL board. We all wish you the best I am sure. -

It has got to, IT is Six Flags St Louis / Mid-America. Everything else is disposable or replaceable. Our park wouldn't be the same without it. To RMC it would be a disaster, they can RMC The Boss to Death - a complete redesign if needed. Do Not Touch the Eagle -

Screamin Eagle for me. I rode it opening year in '76, my first large coaster. I remember how intimidating it was, it was a monster of a coaster back then. I have been a coaster fan ever since. -

Ugh! stop... if they haven't gotten a new, even used, steel coaster (hyper, floorless, etc) by 2021 then SFSTL should just close shop. -

Thrilled to hear this. Boss is fine the way it is provided they give it the appropriate care. Admittedly, this is more than a typical wooden coaster would get because it's a giant terrain coaster. The best RMC StL could get is a RMC built from scratch...unless they want to take a shot at Ninja. Dave and I both agreed that we would much rather see RMC come and put topper track on the Boss (which would cost less). They could change the banking or profile a tad here and there to add to the thrill but nothing over the top. The Boss' biggest problem is really the Gerstlauer trains. Holiday World was lucky to get rid of there's on the Legend pretty quickly. Topper track would also allow the ride to run whenever it is colder, and it would minimize the chance of the trains getting stuck in a valley. Gerstlauer's trains are so bad that the Boss had to run PTCs from Screamin' Eagle for media day, as the G trains wouldn't complete the circuit. Even today, the park is lucky to have a fantastic rides crew who knows the Boss really well. One of my good friends is the rides supervisor over that whole area of the parks (the park is separated into three areas, in terms of rides), and she loves the Boss. Each train (three total) has its own quirks and things you have to do. You probably have never seen them, but there are a couple off-the-shelf yard sprinklers attached to the second huge turn around after the MCBR. They run them almost every morning before the park opens. Then, as the days get colder, there is one train (can't remember which color) that sometimes gets parked on the lift hill in order to warm up by sunning itself. In the end, it's a case of Six Flags purchased a product from a company that ended up having some issues. Hearing stories and seeing things myself, it really amazes me how much work the rides staff put into making sure that the Boss can run three trains as much as possible. They truly go above and beyond what basic standard operating procedure would be to keep the line moving. And also Topper Track would make it re-ridable, as it would smooth it out and cause less Headaches and Bodily Injuries
