  1. I'm honestly really fascinated to know why so many people hate on the Six Flag brand like crazy. Frankly, I love my Six Flags and I always will. As roller coaster lovers, shouldn't we love Six Flags BECAUSE THEY FOCUS ON ROLLER COASTERS?! Great Adventure is my home park, I go there all the time and it's still right up there with Hersheypark, Universal Orlando and Cedar Point to me and yes I've been to all of these. My friend that I went to Cedar Point with told me after the trip he liked Great Adventure better and he loves roller coasters too. I've heard numerous complaints about their customer service but Six Flags has always treated me well and I can put that up against other parks. I've heard complaints about their food but let's face it, has anyone been to an amusement park that has really good food? I haven't. I've heard complaints about the amount of time it takes to load the trains. Really, Nitro is the fastest coaster I've seen at loading trains and El Toro is a close second. So I have to ask, why the hell do people hate on Six Flags so much? I'd really like to know.
  2. I did not know there was free shuttle service from Sea World to Busch Gardens. If that's the case I can make that a great selling point to my family. Unfortunately, we only have 4 days at Disney World and that's set in stone. We can use 1 of the 4 days to go to Busch Gardens or Sea World but we won't be getting a 5th day. As for jray, we are staying at a Disney hotel. As for our flight I believe we get there around 8-8:30 am and we're flying from Newark. We're just concerned about being too tired to stay out too long at night the first day but we can get a lot done during the day.
  3. 1. Yea they'll consult me because they want me to be happy on vacation too. Me and my mom have made all the dining plans so far and I'm pretty sure my sister doesn't like to plan like me and my mom do so we basically talk out a plan and make sure my sister wants to do what we plan. 2. My sister and I love roller coasters but we can appreciate the calmer rides too. We'll go on almost anything. My parents are a little more laid back. 3. I'm not sure if we'll split up because we can't afford to bring friends so there's not much we can do seperately. If anything it would just be me and my sister seperating from my parents but I'm not sure if we'll do that. Also my sister was dying to go to Seaworld 2 years ago when we went to Universal and she loves Harry Potter so she'd go back to Universal again. She also loves coasters like me so I think she would be open to Busch Gardens Tampa although I think that's the biggest reach of the 3 but cost is probably the biggest issue so I'd have to convince my parents to spend the extra money if my sister wanted to do any of those.
  4. Hi guys. My sister is a die hard Disney fan so she asked to go to Disney World/Disney Cruise for a college graduation present. I happen to be very excited about the trip as well because I haven't been to Disney World since 2001. With that said, I'm probably going to be the one giving my family advice as to what we should do when in order to get the most out of this vacation. Basically we have 4 days at Disney World from May 19-22. We're taking the Disney Cruise the last 3 days. I haven't been to Disney World in over a decade and my sister went about 4 years ago so I'm basically asking for any advice on what you guys would do if you were in my situation. I should tell you guys that I'm the youngest person going on this trip at 19 by that time, my sister is 22 and our parents will going together. We have dining reservations at the Be Our Guest Restaurant at Magic Kingdom and a 50s Cafe Restaurant in Hollywood Studios although we want to see Fantasmic and might switch to that dining plan for that night. We are leaving the first and last nights open for dining options. I have a few questions I would like you guys to answer because these are my main dilemnas. 1. Would you go to more than 1 park a day and make visits on different days to Magic Kingdom and/or Epcot with only 4 days or try to go to Magic Kingdom and Epcot at least for a full day? There are at least 5 parks we'd like to go to in Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom and Blizzard Beach. 2. I personally would like to go to an outside Disney park in Seaworld, Universal or Busch Gardens Tampa. I just went to Universal 2 years ago and we have limited time plus we are on a budget with this vacation (1st time staying in a non-monorail hotel) so I'm asking which park would you try to go to with cost being a factor if any of them? I love roller coasters and so does my sister but my parents aren't big fans of it but don't mind waiting around for us. Like I said, the extra cost is really the biggest factor. 3. My mom is concerned we will be tired to do anything the first night so we don't have anything booked. I believe we have a 6 am flight so it's understandable. What's your advice for that day in particular? 4. This is probably the most important question. In May, do you guys think it would be better to go to the parks with Extra Magic Hours or avoid them? Here's the list of Magic Hours for each day I will be there: May 19- Magic Kingdom at night May 20- Animal Kingdom in morning May 21- Epcot in morning May 22- Hollywood Studios in morning Any advice would be appreciated.
  5. Yea that was the first major death story involving a roller coaster i ever paid attention to. It was his own fault though but i agree that's probably the most notable death involving a roller coaster i can recall. Poor kid was only 17.
  6. I'd have to say Universal was the best i ever experienced. Incredible Hulk, Harry Potter and Rip Ride Rockit in particular really kept their queues moving. A 90 minute Harry Potter wait turned out to only be 30 minutes because the queue constantly moves.
  7. I've had some anticipated roller coasters to check off my list to ride and put on my credit list. I still have a lot of roller coasters I'm dying to ride so this got me thinking, what rides do people want to put on their credit list the most? So basically just put your top 5 most anticipated credits and provide reasons why the roller coasters are in your top 5. I'll start. 5. Outlaw Run (Silver Dollar City)- it's a Rocky Mountain coaster that is new in 2013. I've always been very curious about coasters like this to see how it would turn out and with the success of New Texas Giant, I really hope to ride this 1 day. 4. Iron Rattler (Six Flags Fiesta Texas)- basically same reasons as Outlaw Run. I put this ahead of Outlaw Run because based on POVs, the layout looks a little better to me plus it has a tunnel. Another highly anticipated Rocky Mountain coaster for me. 3. Tatsu (Six Flags Magic Mountain)- i've always loved pretzel loops. It's probably my favorite element on any ride plus I'm a huge fan of Superman: Ultimate Flight. This is supposed to be a better version of Superman, the loop is higher and the theme looks great. I really want to see how much better this is than Superman. 2. Voyage (Holiday World)- this wooden coaster always goes head to head with El Toro for the title of best wooden coaster in the world. El Toro happens to be my favorite ride. I also hear Voyage has the most airtime on any coaster. With all of these reasons, I really need to ride this ride to see who the title of best wooden coaster really belongs to. 1. Intimidator 305 (Kings Dominion)- i've heard so many positive things about this coaster. For instance that it's intense, has a very good drop and has a lot of airtime. That basically reminds me of a steel version of El Toro. If it's even close to El Toro status, it can end up very high in my top 10 list, perhaps even number 1. So those are my 5 most anticipated credits. What's yours? MOD EDIT: I moved your post, no need for a separate thread from this very similar one.
  8. Well I'm going to divide this into 2 categories since most of my possible parks are no where near definite. Definites: Magic Kingdom Epcot Hollywood Studios Animal Kingdom Six Flags Great Adventure Great Adventure is my home park so i'll probably be making a few visits there. My family has confirmed a vacation to Disney World in May so I know i'm going to those parks. I've been to all of these before BUT this is my first visit to Disney World in over a decade so it'll almost feel like new but I've been there at least 3 times. Possibilities: SeaWorld Orlando Universal Studios Orlando Islands of Adventure Busch Gardens Tampa Bay SeaWorld San Antonio Six Flags Fiesta Texas Six Flags Over Texas Magic Springs Silver Dollar City Six Flags St. Louis Six Flags Great America Cedar Point Dorney Park Six Flags Over Georgia Most of these parks would be covered on TPR Midwest Trip so i'm still not 100% sure if I can go on Midwest Trip because I have to wait for my friend to see if he has money for this. I live about 90 minutes from Dorney Park and have never been there so i'm considering taking the drive up there next year. As for the Florida parks, I might go to 1 of them because my family is spending 4 days at Disney World so I'm hoping to get some new credits from SeaWorld or Busch Gardens Tampa. I've already been to Universal but would love going back again. As for Over Georgia, that's only going to happen if I end up going to the NCAA Final Four in Atlanta and even than it probably wouldn't happen.
  9. I'd nominate 3 places: 1. Orlando- you have Disney World, Universal Orlando and Sea World in your backyard PLUS Busch Gardens Tampa only 90 minutes away. I've been to Orlando many times and I think it's a great place to live as an amusement park fan. 2. Los Angeles- you have Six Flags Magic Mountain which looks like the best six flags park, Disneyland, Universal Hollywood, Knott's Berry Farm and Santa Monica Pier all less than an hour away. 3. Philadelphia- you have Great Adventure 1 hour away, Hershey Park and Six Flags America 2 hours away and Kennywood, Knoebel's, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Kings Dominion, Dorney Park and Cedar Point a few hours away.
  10. These reasons would be longer but i lost my entire post from before after trying to add pictures. first 8 rides are pleasant and last 5 are unpleasant surprises. Maverick- never thought a 110 foot roller coaster would end up being the most wild ride i've ever been on Magnum XL 200- i never really thought about this ride being awesome because it hides under the shadow of millennium force Blue Streak- for a 64 foot roller coaster, this ride has some nice ejector airtime ROTM.bmp Revenge of the Mummy- turned out to be my favorite indoor roller coaster. very nice surprises harry potter and the forbidden journey.bmp Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey- best theming on a ride ever. tremendous job Great Bear- this is the only inverted i like in this style. i dont know why this is, but it's the only 1 RRR.bmp Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit- it's amazing how much better music can make a roller coaster Great American Scream Machine- i'm the only person that didn't find this ride bumpy. i wish i could've rode it more than once =( mil force.bmp Millennium Force- the most anticipated ride i ever had turned out to be the most overrated. barely any airtime and too windy for me Mean Streak- i thought with the layout there would be no way it would be as bad as reviews. i was wrong lol Raptor- not sure why this gets so much more praise than batman. wasn't really much better for me Dragon Challenge- not much better than batman either. the dueling race on this type of ride really didn't excite me much Green Lantern- newest great adventure coaster that i thought would be good since i never rode stand-up. turned out to be very painful and uncomftorable
  11. Hoping my friend can gather some money to go on Midwest Trip with me. If not, than I can't go due to my parents not wanting me to travel alone and being with people they don't know for 2 weeks even though I'll be 19 by the time trip starts. So yea, I'm hoping that can be my first TPR trip!
  12. If you guys are sports fans (not sure if you are because you're coming from Switzerland) I'd recommend making that 2 hour drive to Canton, Ohio in order to visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I did this to add an extra day to my vacation to Cedar Point this year. It's truly a bucket list experience for any football fan. They have information and videos of every single player in the Hall of Fame. I strongly suggest you guys go there.
  13. 2nd question for Rocky Mountain- With the popularity of New Texas Giant and the hype for Iron Rattler and Outlaw Run sky high, do you guys think we are starting to see the extinction of traditional wooden roller coasters?
  14. Rocky Mountain- With the makeover of New Texas Giant being a huge success and the enormous amount of hype for Iron Rattler and Outlaw Run, do you see yourselves becoming the most recognizable brand in the roller coaster business within the next few years if Iron Rattler and Outlaw Run are as successful as New Texas Giant?
  15. If you guys are curious I'm more than happy to keep track of the results and after a certain amount of people, reveal the overall top 10.
  16. 10. Blue Streak (Cedar Point) 9. Farenheit (Hershey Park) 8. Superman: Ultimate Flight (Six Flags Great Adventure) 7. Great Bear (Hershey Park) 6. Incredible Hulk (Islands of Adventure) 5. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit (Universal Studios Orlando) 4. Nitro (Six Flags Great Adventure) 3. Magnum XL 200 (Cedar Point) 2. Maverick (Cedar Point) 1. EL FREAKING TORO (Six Flags Great Adventure)
  17. I wouldn't turn down the midwest trip just because it isn't going to holiday world. I just wanted to go there over great america because voyage is high on my bucket list. It's not a game changer though because i have heard so many great things about rob and elissa. What really drew me was the rocky mountain coasters to be honest. If not for that, i probably would've waited for a different trip. All i was trying to say was that i personally preferred to go to holiday world over great america and didn't know why great america got chosen until elissa explained it to me. It's an understandable decision and i still REALLY hope to go on midwest trip.
  18. This never happened to me personally but i took a trip to cedar point this year and brought my friend who is overweight with me. He went to ride dragster and had absolutely no shot at getting on this ride. Dragster is a very tough ride to get on and he didn't even come close to making it. The second instance was blue streak. I barely got in the seat being a not so skinny guy myself but my friend refused to sit in that seat because it was too small (in his defense it really was small) and not that roomy. The third instance was millennium force. This was a weird case because sometimes they let him ride and sometimes he was too big. I believe out of 6 times he rode it he got kicked out 2 or 3 of them. Off the record, 1 of the ride attendants told me some trains and some seats are bigger than others. He said the red train near the back was our best bet so we aimed for that and it worked a few times but he still got kicked out once. Point is cedar point is not meant for big people and i don't see that changing and it probably shouldn't change because taking the walk of shame is embarassing. I'm just hoping i dont take that walk next year although i've never been in danger on el toro and that's a small seat too.
  19. I consider my first real roller coaster to be great american scream machine at six flags over georgia
  20. You make a great point. I really just wanted to see why people think it's better than el toro because i really don't think i will ever find a roller coaster that will knock el toro off the top of my list. As for what happened to you that actually happened to me this year. I went to Cedar Point really to see if millennium force would knock off el toro for me. An absolute huge letdown for me. I didn't hate it but it's no where near my top 10. No airtime and it went so fast that bugs were being smacked into my face and they hurt. On the other side of that was magnum. Did not expect much from this ride but i found the airtime to be INCREDIBLE! I ended up riding that ride more than any other ride during my stay and it actually moved in front of nitro on my top 10 list. Maverick was somewhat the same story. I questioned how good a ride could really be only 110 feet off the ground. The only ride i've been on more intense than that is el toro. 2 incredible rides get overshadowed by an overrated millennium force so great points dragonkhan.
  21. In this topic, you just put what your top 10 roller coasters list looked like at the end of 2011 and where it is now near the end of 2012. This is to see how much you liked riding new rides and rides you haven't ridden until this year. I don't travel to amusement parks much but I'll start with mine. 2011: 10. Great Nor Easter (Morey's Piers) 9. Great White (Morey's Piers) 8. Comet (Hershey Park) 7. Farenheit (Hershey Park) 6. Superman: Ultimate Flight (Six Flags Great Adventure) 5. Great Bear (Hershey Park) 4. Incredible Hulk (Islands of Adventure) 3. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit (Universal Studios Orlando) 2. Nitro (Six Flags Great Adventure) 1. El Toro (Six Flags Great Adventure) 2012: 10. Blue Streak (Cedar Point) 9. Farenheit (Hershey Park) 8. Superman: Ultimate Flight (Six Flags Great Adventure) 7. Great Bear (Hershey Park) 6. Incredible Hulk (Islands of Adventure) 5. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit (Universal Studios Orlando) 4. Nitro (Six Flags Great Adventure) 3. Magnum XL 200 (Cedar Point) 2. Maverick (Cedar Point) 1. El Toro (Six Flags Great Adventure)
  22. I'm really not trying to criticize anyone here I'm just going to state some research i found. If you switch holiday world with great america, you actually SAVE 1 hour of driving from st louis to cedar point not to mention kings island is right on the way if you go from holiday world. I'm just stating my personal opinion that I wanted to go to holiday world over great america but nevertheless, I'm sure theres another reason why it's not included. No ERT may very well be the reason why holiday world's not included for all i know. Again not trying to start anything here, just have a high curiosity of the voyage because I have yet to find a roller coaster better than el toro and people say this is it. But i have heard great things about these trips and I'm 100% sure this will be a great trip even without holiday world.
  23. I probably didn't do nearly as many things as some of you guys did but for me it was a good year. I'm gonna do a top 5 moments. 5. Trash talking an eagles fan going into fright fest preview night at great adventure. Him and his friends were being obnoxious with all their eagle chants so me and my friend start trash talking their team to shut them up (we're giants fans) 4. Finally going to hurricane harbor 3. Running to nitro at opening which i never do (i usually always go for toro). Me and my friend were the first people in line for nitro and for the 1st time ever, we sat in the front row. What was funny was that these 2 other kids joined us in the front and NOBODY else was on that train because everybody wanted the front row so we had the opening train of the day for just the 4 of us . 2. Riding my most anticipated ride ever in millennium force. It was my first giga coaster and really the main reason why i went to cedar point this year. I unfortunately ended up being disappointed in the ride but still a nice milestone for me. 1. GOING ON A VACATION TO CEDAR POINT!!! I've been wanting to go here more than any other amusement park for at least 3 years. My parents agree to take me there as a graduation present. Best parents ever! They went there completely for me because they didn't really have anything to do there. My dad drove 8+ hours to get there. Glad I went here as I ended up falling in love with magnum and maverick plus i additionally got a trip to canton to see pro football hall of fame .
  24. 1st post! Really hoping to get me and my 2 friends in the midwest trip. Really want to ride the trio of rocky mountain coasters plus a return to cedar point would be nice. Why do i have a feeling holiday world is going to be a surprise stop?
