Coaster Types and Capacity
Sammy* replied to Solipsisto's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would like to see Intimain use the Sky Rush 4 row trains, on future projects plus it would be interesting to see a launch with 4 across trains other than The Hulk. -
Six Flags Over Texas (SFOT) Discussion Thread
Sammy* replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I had no idea the park was that big. Everything is bigger in Texas though According the Wilki the park purchased some land in 2008 making now 220 acres. Im not sure if that has anything to do with the strip mall they purchased. Maybe someone can answers this question for me that I feel stupid as an enthusaist for asking, I need you guys to confirm what I know is b.s. I have two cousins who claim that when they rode Mr. Freeze, the train "got stuck" on the spike, leaving them hanging in the air for almost an hour till repairs were made. I argued with them for a ridiculous 2 hours explaining how the ride and LIM's work and that cant happen, they swear this happened. I know Mr. Freeze has LIM's that are halfway up the spike to propel the train to the top of the spike. Has any such incidents been reported with the shuttle LIM's? Is it possible for the LIM's to freeze up or something, keeping the train suspended? -

I was thinking of going to the park this weekend but I think im going to wait till Monday... I pass by the park everyday on my commute to and from work, as of today theres been no unassembling. But I thought I saw a small crane yesterday. -
The Boomerang Challenge
Sammy* replied to downunder's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
this is a bit off subject but since were talking boomerangs, I will go ahead and mention this. I thought Magnum was the first roller coaster to exceed 200 feet in height. But Moonsault Scramble @ Fuji-Q Highland, a boomerang, operated from 1983-2000. Stood 230 ft. tall. -

I think that sound about right, now I read something a while back as to why Giovanola stopped designing there own coaster, but I cant remember the what happened. -

A Foolish act of Six Flags, if they had dismantled it properly it would be set up at Darien Lake and it would have a better place in its "new" home! You have a point, otherwise it would be operating now. That makes me wonder if the company that unassembled knew and didn't say anything before having it sent and the issue was discovered by Six Flags when it arrived at the park. Regardless, why are they holding on to it? -
Coaster APPS?
Sammy* replied to Sammy*'s topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Apps for both. (Android or Apple) Can't tell if you misread the question, or...? I mean APPS for games, but since you mentioned parks, the only park APPs I have been able to find is Cedar Point, no any other? -

Are you kidding me? The coaster wasn't dismantled properly, so there's no way that Darien Lake going to set it up anytime soon and who cares if it has minor rusting the next place this coaster is going to is the junkyard with Viper (the one from Astroworld)! If it wasn't dismantled properly and in no condition to reassembled, why on earth would they waste the money to transport it all the from Texas to New York? -

Your favorite HUSS ride
Sammy* replied to simon8899's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Giant Frisbee is my second favorite flat ride, unless you count test track to be a flat ride then its third, both under the drop towers. -
There has been some movement in the State Fair area. I know there has been some new luxury apartments and condos built in the are in hopes of bringing new life to area. Im curious if they are going to charge the by tickets per a ride or just admision. I would think that this would affect actual State Fair in October. No one going to try to go in October when you can go year around. I think they are will have to add some new attractions other than the tower. I would love to see them upgrade to a new larger Texas Sized Ferris Wheel.

I only rode it back in 1998, then I did not remember it being that bad. Cyclone I did not have the expericnce of riding with new trains and track. You guys are right about Viper I just forgot about viper.-(where has viper been relocated too? Never got to ride Ultra Twister, as it was out of service my last visit. Never cared for greased lightning didn't do anything for me. But i do think it is classic non the less -

@Sportsdude360 You being an enthusiast as we are, you are aware of our love for coasters, so to hear you brag about the damage you have done has rubbed some of us the wrongs way. But I wont hold that against you. That said I wonder are will SFoT start disassemble tomorrow. -

Well the sad thing was this was probably one the best coaster Astro World had after the Texas Tornado left the park. It looks like if where to be assembled it would collapse during the first test run. But non the less it still appears to be in better shape than Flashback;(the soon to be Boomerang at at SFstl). On another note its just strange to me to think that Intimain once used the same track as B&M. To think of it B&M is the only designer I can think of that have never changed there track design other than the subtle differences from Floorless to Dive Machine track. -
Thats all fine and dandy, but you need to remember that station design, guests, and crew size all factor into how quickly you can load and dispatch a train. I would ballpark that the 700ish number thrown around is probably going to be the most accurate. Does anyone else feel like the backwards launch is kind of unnecessary? I saw this coaster and said cool, but the backwards launch seems...like a waste and unnecessary. I'm sure its a cool effect, but as others have noted its probably going to absolutely wreck the capacity potential of a ride like this. I could see them cutting the backwards launch part of the ride's program several years down the road if it stays popular enough and capacity is an issue. Assuming that's possible, of course. It looks neat, and basically is an overgrown Skyloop coaster in my opinion. I'm not impressed, but its definitely a cool attraction. I think the backwards launch is more for the affects, plus the GP will think its cool. I don't think it will hurt the capacity from looking at the video. All it does is simply launch the train half way up the dive loop and allows the train too freefall back through the launch/tunnel combo. I wouldn't imagine that taking any more than 10 secs.

Hi guys, Im not sure if there is an existing post for this subject. ( I searched and did not find one.) Anyways, I was wondering does anyone recommend any coaster APPS worth downloading?
-
^^^^ Agreed, I don't see Six Flags spending that much on a coaster. But with all theme parks the faster and taller coasters they build, the shorter the rides will feel and be. I would like to think theres a day when we will have a standard lift 400 ft or a 500 ft launch coasters, but I dought that with the amount of steel that is needed to make a decent length coaster with hills that high is just too much. But thats different conversation for a different time.
