  1. It would be fun to grab a radar gun and test various coasters advertised speeds versus actual top speeds (acknowledging that conditions can alter performance), but i'm sure the parks would not be cool with that. hardly a "myth", anyway. you could theoretically try to test the "drop an object from the top of a loop and catch it at the bottom" using a foam ball with a park's permission, on a closed ride, of course. could result in some pretty funny shots of a dude completely failing to throw / catch a foam ball while traversing a loop, or a nice shot of a coaster train shredding the thing. probably wouldn't present any danger to the ride if it was soft enough. this one's boring, but you could also verify the advertised height of various lift hills using simple triangulation -- use measuring tape to stand x feet away, measure the angle of line of side to the apex using a protractor, do some basic trig, and that gives you the height of the object. i dunno, that's more of a 6th grade field trip exercise i guess. expanding on a previous poster's remark: determine how safe it is statistically to ride a roller coaster versus various other forms of "transportation" such as car, plane, merry-go-round, bike, etc. (i suspect it's statistically far more dangerous to drive to the park than ride its coasters).
  2. why include them when you know full well that your experience is not representative of the current ride? isn't the poll made less accurate by your submission?
  3. don't be so sure: drowsiness is a common symptom of a severe concussion!
  4. Intimidator 305 had part of its first turn re-worked, either due to rider complaints about grey-outs or wheel lifespan, depending on who you ask. Drachen Fire had a corkscrew removed ... did little good, as the ride was closed for good after only a few seasons regardless. Texas Giant got steel "topper track" to rave reviews as far as i know. The Wild One at Six Flags America was significantly reprofiled at its turnaround and helix, greatly reducing lateral Gs and general intensity.
  5. yeah, it was more like an explosion than a launch. so much more intense than the launches of FoF, TTD, or Volcano. it's too bad the rest of the ride was just awful, and the capacity was so low. that technology had potential.
  6. Magnum feels sloppy and just plain poorly-engineered to me. not a fan. it feels like a company over-reaching what their technology was really capable of, and delivering a crappy ride experience as a result. i've always felt maggie was extremely overrated. i love that airtime feeling in the pit of your stomach as much as anyone, but slamming my knees into the lap bar is not fun or thrilling. plus the turns seem like they were banked all wrong, as if someone was just eyeballing it instead of doing real math. i guess it does give a nice view, at least. MF may not have much in the way of airtime, and only gives moderate intensity compared to other more recent Intamins such as Maverick or i305, but it is an extremely enjoyable ride with a great sensation of speed. sort of the world's largest family coaster. and i don't mean that as an insult.

  8. you need to ride Volcano first thing in the morning. it's very low capacity and the wait gets longer and longer throughout the day. Flight of Fear is a good second choice, it can back up as well. i305 line moves pretty fast, so you can hit that at your convenience (early and often is my recommendation ) Shockwave is also an excruciatingly slow line, but unlike Volcano, it is by no means a must-ride.
  9. 1) Intimidator 305 2) Apollo's Chariot 3) El Toro 4) Bizarro 5) Millenium Force 6) Griffon 7) Nitro 8) Raptor 9) Volcano: The Blast Coaster 10) Incredible Hulk
  10. they didn't used to do this. the roughness has caused parks over the years to crank up the MCBR to a near complete stop, and the unfortunate upshot is the back halves are even more unfomfortable, because the banking and inversions were designed for a train traveling at a faster velocity. Anaconda didn't always crawwwwwwl through its final two corkscrews.
  11. everything after Volcano's launch is sort of weird: inversion thingy, turnaround, heartline roll, turnaround, heartline roll, turnaround, heartline roll, and finally a big drop into immediate brakes.
  12. there may very well be a kidzville expansion in kd's future, but dude, that's not snoopy, it's .... the moon.
  13. second-tallest restroom on the east coast
  14. Intimidator 305 for sure.
