The 26 year wait for a ride..
ytterbiumanalyst replied to caffeine_demon's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've always wanted to go on Millenium Force, ever since a friend went to work for Cedar Point that summer. Twelve years later I still haven't. It will happen someday. -
I'm really surprised they're actually calling it Boomerang, considering that Worlds of Fun has had one for over a decade now and calls theirs Boomerang. Worlds of Fun advertised the heck out of theirs when it was built, since that was the same year Six Flags built the Boss, so many of us in Missouri associate the name Boomerang with Worlds of Fun.

Favorite Coaster Sounds
ytterbiumanalyst replied to TheAmazingCP's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
One of my favourites is the "alarm" that Powder Keg makes right before launch. To quot Robin Williams, "The fuuuuun has ariiiived!" -
Wow, that's awesome. No other state does transit like New Jersey does. Meanwhile, in Missouri, we voted down light rail in Kansas City, the St. Louis Green Line has been tied up for years, and Springfield doesn't look like it's ever going to get the new bus terminal it badly needs. All this while NJ runs a bus to a theme park. Kudos to them!

Well, getting to the park is going to be a big problem without a car. Most of the "big" parks in this country are in rural locations where land is plentiful and cheap. Getting to Trenton is no problem, though. You'll want to take the subway from wherever you stay in New York to Penn Station, situated between 7th and 8th Avenues and between 31st and 34th Streets. It's important to understand that New York actually has two independently functioning subway systems. One uses numbers for its lines, the other letters. You can transfer between them, but not always underground and it's usually a bit of a walk. The 1, 2, and 3 lines as well as the A, C, and E go directly to Penn Station, and from there you can transfer to an intercity train. The B, D, F, M, N, Q, and R trains get within one block of Penn Station, and then it's a quick walk on surface streets. Once you're at Penn Station, you'll have your choice of three types of trains: New Jersey Transit is the "local," making all stops; Amtrak Northeast Regional is the "standard," making only five stops between New York and Trenton; and Amtrak Acela Express is the high-speed train which makes only two stops between New York and Trenton. All three trains use the same tracks, so let time and price dictate your decision. New Jersey Transit completes the trip in approximately 90 minutes and costs $15.50 each way. Northeast Regional takes approximately 55 minutes and costs $40 each way. Acela Express takes approximately 45 minutes and costs $59 each way. Tickets can be purchased at the station or http://www.njtransit.com or http://www.amtrak.com. From Trenton, I'd say the only way to the park is a taxi. Taxi fare is likely to be quite expensive, as the park is 23 miles from Trenton Transit Center. Can't really help you on that leg of it, since I've never been to the park. And why yes, I am a train nerd.

What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?

Wildfire, in the dark, back row, outside seat. Pure Awesomeness. -
Silver Dollar City played host once again to Mercy Hospital's annual co-worker appreciation day, and this year they really outdid themselves. They supplied us with five hours of ERT--now, granted, Mercy is the Ozarks' largest employer, with hospitals in Springfield and Joplin, so it was still a little crowded, but the lines weren't all that long. Less than would be reasonably expected for trees this popular. The first thing you'll notice in this photo is the ubiquitous white pickup. The trees at SDC are very popular among owners of white pickups--and you can see in the background just why so many people love them. First things first--my daughter has to pose for the camera. The trees in this area are especially interesting for their "swoosh" sound. We then ran to Grandfather's Mansion. It is a wonderful crooked house, and a great bit of nostalgia for me, but we were a little disappointed at its lack of trees. Next we visited these trees. I found them a little scary at first, but since then I’ve grown to love these trees. The queue was quite short too, even though the park was still open at this point. I waited maybe 15 minutes. The Grand Expo is a must for us. On the way there, we passed the only indication there was anything special going on today—this small banner. The Grand Expo Coaster is my daughter’s favourite. It was actually the longest queue of the day, about 30 minutes, due to its low capacity. Surprisingly, there are very few trees around this ride, just some bushes and flowers. Perhaps SDC’s guests are changing their taste in foliage. My son and I are enjoying Elephant March, a pneumatic rider-controlled flat ride. It’s tall, but not very fast. Perfect for little ones—and it’s surrounded by trees! The park was very busy today. Lots of people coming to see the trees. It’s too bad I couldn’t get a good picture of them with those pirate-themed rides in the way. Some of the trees are a little bright. We needed shades. The Insectarium is one of three great areas for little ones. It’s out of the way, too, so there’s not any through traffic. Lots of parents bring cameras here, to take pictures of their kids looking at the trees from atop a Happy Frog. Then it was off to Half Dollar Holler for the can’t miss ride Hugo and Mary’s Carousel. It’s the only ride in the park all five of us can ride together. A quick bathroom break offered the chance to photograph the scenery. This is at the base of Hill St., near the entrance to Wildfire. SDC does their theming better than most. Off to Wilson’s Farm. I thought it odd at first, walking between Fire in the Hole and Lost River, since that was always the back of the park when I was a kid. Since then, I’ve grown to love this view of Lost River. This tree has gotten a lot of attention lately, so much that SDC is putting in a new $10 million viewing platform behind it. Looks great! By the time I had queued for the Giant Barn Swing, it was dark. So much fun, even moreso in the dark. Then it was off to…WILDFIRE! I got the back row on the outside, and only a twenty minute wait. Very intense there, and so much better in the dark.

Technical question: how to attach multiple photos
ytterbiumanalyst replied to ytterbiumanalyst's topic in Ask Alvey
No, I'm not removing a previous photo; the new one simply doesn't show up. The photos are all 2560x1920. What I did is to type my introductory paragraph, then scroll down to the "Post Photos or Files" section, type my caption into the "File Description/Photo Caption" box, then click "Choose File," found the file on my HDD, then clicked "Add the file." At this point if I hit Preview, my photo shows up with the caption. When I go back, though, and repeat this same process for the second file, it goes through the "updating (x%)," but the photo is just absent. What am I doing wrong? -
I'm attempting to post my first TR here, and I'm having trouble posting multiple photos. The first one goes through just fine, but I'm having trouble getting subsequent photos to take. I attach the second in exactly the same way as the first, but it doesn't show up in preview. What's going on here?

^ When we were there a couple of weeks ago, they had most of the lift hill tracked, so I'd say likely. We'll be there tomorrow; I'll find out for certain then. The lift hill is pretty visible from the public areas. -

Because nothing can destroy the Real American Hero. -
It was "the trees are as much an attraction for SDC as any of the rides are" that got me. Just the way it was phrased sounded like people were going to the amusement park just to see the trees. Yea! I made it to this thread! What I meant was that SDC prides itself on keeping as much of the natural setting as possible, and that natural setting is very much a part of the theme. And yes, unbelievable as it may sound, lots of people do go to the park to see the theme, and don't ride any rides. *gasp*

Post your milestone coasters
ytterbiumanalyst replied to bgwfreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, I've always liked trying out new coasters, but I'm new to the whole "credit" thing. So I don't really know what order I've ridden them in. Here's a few I do know: First coaster--Runaway Ore Cart, Silver Dollar City First big coaster--Thunderation, Silver Dollar City First inverting coaster--Ninja, Six Flags St. Louis First wooden coaster--Screamin' Eagle, Six Flags St. Louis First (and only to date) water coaster--BuzzSaw Falls, Silver Dollar City First launch coaster--Mr. Freeze, Six Flags St. Louis Most recent (thirtieth) coaster--Powder Keg, Silver Dollar City So there you have it. Lots of firsts in SDC, since it's my home park, and SFStL, since I have family in St. Louis and we went up there several times a year when I was a kid. -
