Agreed on all counts. The coaster looks like it's about done, but they will want to completed the themed area before opening the ride. As much as SDC puts into theming, I really doubt they'll open Outlaw Run before the end of the year (not that I would mind...). Construction should be able to proceed into December: we usually don't get our first big ice storm until January (we hardly get snow here, just ice; but occasionally I have seen a foot of snow in early December or even November. Midwest weather is notoriously unpredictable).

The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread
ytterbiumanalyst replied to Wes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Technically, yes. But the launch begins horizontal. I'm talking where they stop you, give you a moment to ponder your impending doom, and then shoot you straight up into the sky. Kind of like a vertical lift hill but with launch LSMs or maybe a cable like S&S does. That would be awesome. -

How about a vertical launch, all S&S Space Shot style? -
Ride Bucket List
ytterbiumanalyst replied to Evanaj15's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There are many great rides out there. I haven't been on a lot, but I have seen quite a few of the videos (in fact, I found this forum through TPR's Youtube channel; I found TPR videos to be the highest quality out there). A bucket list, though, needs to consist of the experiences one must absolutely have. For that, my list is relatively short: Millennium Force. This one has personal interest for me, as a friend went to work for Cedar Point shortly after it was built. It's more than just a roller coaster; it's like recovering a lost piece of my childhood. This will happen. Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. My home park, Silver Dollar City, has kind of spoiled me into believing that a park should have more than great rides. It should be a complete experience. I've seen the TPR videos of all the coasters here, and I would love to be there. Busch Gardens seems to care about the environment the ride is placed in as much as they do the ride itself, and I value that highly. Alton Towers. Like I'm sure a lot of others did, I first encountered this park through Roller Coaster Tycoon. I especially appreciate the park's attention to natural beauty. I probably won't be able to afford a trip to England until the kids are grown, but I will ride Nemesis, even if I have to wait until I'm 50. -

The most rare coaster credits
ytterbiumanalyst replied to Stitch's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My only real "rare credit" is Ozark Wildcat at Celebration City. Yes, there were two other coasters in the park, but they were there back when it was Branson USA, and since then have been shipped to other parks. Ozark Wildcat was specifically built for Celebration City, and is still there, not operating. It might have been far and away the most popular ride at that park, but the park itself did not have good attendance and was only open for three years. -
Sadly I think the best iron horse candidates are just about exhausted, save Mean Streak, which won't happen. I don't expect too many more unless someone decides to build one from scratch. Perhaps this project will be much cheaper than NTAG, and will attract more attention. What about Boss? Yes, please. Boss was awesome the year it opened, but by the last time we went in 2007, it was already pretty rough. Iron Horse would make that ride amazing.

Well, assuming you're going to rent a car, I'd definitely suggest taking US-50 rather than I-70 between the two cities. It'll only take you about half an hour longer, and not only will you completely avoid St. Louis traffic (US-50 junctions with I-44 about 20 miles west of Eureka, where Six Flags is), you'll get to see some very scenic areas of Missouri.

Did no one else notice that extra barrel roll on the top of the cliff? Another double inversion wooden coaster! This thing looks so awesome! Well, first of all, it's not a wooden coaster since they're using Iron Horse track. Second, Outlaw Run has three inversions. Six Flags can't have every record. That said, this might just make it worth a return trip to Fiesta Texas. Rattler was horrible, but with the awful helix removed and a smoother ride, it looks not just tolerable but actually fun.

My favourite of late has been Brian Regan. A few of his routines: The Box - Food Labels - Little League -

I don't put much stock in the value others place on what I write. I'm having fun, which is pretty much the whole point of a forum, isn't it?

^ I'm a winner! I'm a winner! Now that I've won, what am I going to do, you ask? I'm going to Cedar Point!
-
^ Nope, I was only on here for nine days when I made it!

Alton Towers Discussion Thread
ytterbiumanalyst replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Powder Keg breaks down a lot, but it's usually due to problems with the laser alignment of the track. I've never heard, at least on a day I was there, that there was a problem with the cable. They surely do. You can see it here on Powder Keg's launch track: -
Andy Shine's Quiz Time

19/30. I generally got right where the roller coasters are located, but I don't know a lot about when any coaster not located in Missouri opened. -
The Boomerang Challenge
ytterbiumanalyst replied to downunder's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Just one, at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Having had that experience, I can say I don't really want to repeat it. I guess it wasn't really all that bad, just not fun. At all. Rough coasters I can take, and even enjoy. I like Timber Wolf and Screamin' Eagle, and both are pretty capable of beating you up. However, a rough looper is another story. Ninja was a once-in-a-lifetime ride; I'm not making that mistake again. Boomerang is of a similar ilke. Hence I've never been on the one at WoF, and I'll probably end up skipping the new old one at SF St. Louis too.
