La Ronde Discussion Thread

^Don't worry, Goliath and Vampire are the most reliable rides of the park . I *think* Le Monstre is supposed to re-open this week-end, but I'm not sure yet. I've found that info on a La Ronde fan forum, and all the rumors going on around Le Monstre makes it a little confusing. I'll update that info if I can check it out tommorow ! EDIT : ok, I just understood why you asked the question about Goliath. I don't know at all, I'll try to give the information tommorow as well. -
As I'm a local, I suggest to hit Goliath and Le Monstre first (if it's open, as the PTC trains are a mess right now), and then Le Vampire, as it tends to be less crowded than the previous coasters. I think if you can ride Le Super Manège (Vekoma corskrew), you might like it, as it's not *too* rough and it has some great airtime in the back seats ! Also I can't stress you on how important it is to get a flash pass, as La Ronde is an incredibly crowded park and next week school's out, so it's going to be PACKED ! Unless you're a credit whore, don't ride Boomerang (one of the roughest), Cobra (Very rough Intamin stand-up) and SLC. Hope this helps !

Translation : "Hi everybody! While getting back to work on Goliath this morning, we were surprised to find someone plugging a wifi antenna on the loading platform. Some days earlier, guys from the marketing department went and put very weird glasses on a random rider and took a picture of him. So this morning, we've learnt that from mid-June, a virtual reality system, synchronized with the layout will be sold at the ride. Weird idea, but I can't wait to try it! It will completely change the feel of the ride." Interressing new, but I doubt I'd like the experience as I think dark rides and roller coasters should remain separated. And giving glasses to every rider will make the dispatch process even longer ! Curious to see how it'll come out, though... And also... Le Monstre is not open yet, as the trains are too heavy for the structure and there's much problems with those. Apparently La Ronde will try to open one-side one-train for the summer, but for the moment it's not yet open. -

^Goliath and Le Vampire are two really great B&M's, don't miss them ! Also, I think Le Monstre is very good, although some enthusiasts don't like it, I do . The Skyscreamer (Vol Ultime) is great too, it gives a great view of the park and of Montreal. The Pitoune log flume is very good. Le Dragon (indoor Intamin) is excellent, it's near the Ferris wheel. Finally, I think the Super Manège (Vekoma corskrew) is a little rough, but not that much, and it has airtime ! Unless you're a credit whore, don't ride le Cobra (Intamin stand-up), Boomerang (one of the roughest out there) and the SLC. I must recommend you to get a Flash Pass, because on most days La Ronde gets REALLY packed. Hope that will help ! -

Awesome ride ! Going to The Great Escape in june, can't wait to ride it ! -
^I've been on a coaster once with the suction cup mount for Go Pro (with park authorisation of course) and it worked well. Depending of the speed of the ride and the company, I'd suggest to duct tape the base of the mount. If it's a B&M, it'll be fine, but if it's a Togo, probably not ! If possible, I'd suggest to use other mounts like the roll bar or the handlebar ones, as they are more reliable, but the suction cup will work fine.

Ok, so I'm back from opening day with about 50 pictures of the new stuff ! So first of all, let's talk about the rides, because it wasn't very good... A lot of them were closed. Le Vampire (Batman) got mechanical problems at the end of the day, Ednör (SLC) too, so I waited in line for it but I didn't get to ride it . Also, the Condor didn't even have the birds on it. So I got to ride Vol Ultime (Skyscreamer), Cobra (Stand-up), Grande Roue, Spirale, Tour de Ville and Pitoune. But I'll go back later in the season for the other coasters, that's not a problem . Anyway, this post was more about the new stuff than complaining about what wasn't good, so here are the pictures. The Aquatwist is still in construction, but it's supposed to open on June 1rst. However it looked great ! Also Le Monstre was closed, so I didn't got "great" pictures of the trains, but I have one taken from the spiral. Hello Ednör ! How it's going ? Wait... I wasn't coming for that. I wanted to see the brand new Mack Aquatwist ! Basically, this ride consist of boats spinning around and pitching water at the others. Awesome ! Some pieces still waiting to be put in place... The proof of quality ! In case you still didn't figure out where the ride was going to be, here it is ! Let's move on to Le Monstre, and the brand new PTC trains ! The yellow one is ready for testing ! The old Morgan trains are still lying near the station. A closer look at the old Morgan trains I also want to talk about something I think is very cool for families. For parents who would like to keep a memory of their child's first coaster, La Ronde installed cameras in each row of the Marche du Milles-Pattes, and they sell DVDs of those videos. I think that's quite a great idea ! If you look closely, you can see the camera at the front (it's the small black box) This sign translates into "come see your child's face here ! The video of their ride is now available in blu-ray and DVD !" That last picture is for Elissa : In park Mcdonald's !!! -

I've got some news from the new Mack Aquatwist. The construction has just began ! The ride should open to the public on June 1rst. I've found a video on La Presse, a quebec newspaper, that shows the construction of the ride. It's in french, but I think the images can be understood by everyone . http://www.lapresse.ca/videos/actualites/201305/13/46-1-laqua-twist-debarque-a-montreal.php/7e52ffdb676e4af38ca3bca1df319a31 Since it's opening day today, I'll visit this afternoon and if I can I'll try to grab pictures of the ride and of the new Le Monstre's PTC trains. -

^^Oh, and also since La Ronde is my home park, I have to tell you to buy a flash pass, because La Ronde is a park which gets EXTREMELY packed on most days (even if the rides aren't that good), and if you don't get a flash pass, you won't get more than two or three credits in your whole day ! -

^I think the bobsled is generally open at the beginning of the season and operates all summer long. However it only opens at 11 AM, and a long queue generally forms in the day, so try to get there in advance to hit one of the first ride if you don't get a fast pass. Also don't forget that the Bobsled will close when there's rain, even light one, as the through doesn't support moisture. (It might be closed the rest of the day as it needs to dry). This is a pretty difficult credit to get, but it's possible if you follow those tricks (hope it'll help !) -

Ok, I'm jealous now ! I think she's very lucky to have ridden that much coaster at her age . I'll have to try a skycoaster someday too, even if I'm afraid of heights ! -

The pictures are awesome and some of them looks exactly like the promotionnal rendering ! However, the keyholes would have been much better without the disapointing gap (even if it has a great effect on the entrance). I guess nothing can be perfect, altough Gatekeeper is close to it ! -

^Well, it's basically the same thing as my son of beast thing, he rides it so the park don't feel it was a waste of money ( I've actually removed it, because it was very bad, sorry for the bad "meme") -

^Cameras are generally forbidden on rides, for safety reasons principally but also because the parks simply don't want to have cameras on the rides and peoples to film them. I think this previous answer from Robb pretty much sums it up. If you have interest, look at this post and you'll see, it's filled with details : http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17014

Sorry, I don't meant to be rude... I just wanted to mention that the park where I got the authorisation to film was in Canada and not Europe. I never said you were wrong.

^That coaster was in Québec city, Canada, not Europe...
