Colossus, you say? Shane, it looks like yours is one of the rare post cards showing Colossus actually racing. I have no idea of the date of my card (the cars/vans/campers might be a clue), but it shows a five car PTC train, where yours has racing four car trains. This coaster debuted with IAD trains, right? Way back in 1978? edit: are these the original IAD trains, not PTC? -

Nice Dejavu card. This SFOG version is the only one I ever saw that wasn't down, but I didn't ride. Here's one for Ghost. postmark Santa Ana CA, 29 March 1982 -

^ Another great mine train card. I have no idea which track is pictured. Also great to see the Skyway ride. Was that removed prior to the big wheel being installed? I really haven't seen many photos of this park that show the Skyway. Yes, I have quite a few more old AstroWorld cards. This one is also dated 1970, but I think the photo in the previous one is from '68 or '69. It didn't take the park management long to realize they could increase ride capacity by linking two sleighs together. (Looked kinda silly, but oh well.) I think that was how it was operated all but the first (or second) season. oh what fun it is to ride -

^ Wow, look at all that red and green! It never occurred to me that a Santa beard can look... even creepier at 60mph... And one for Shane: this scene would look a bit more like Christmas if there were some reindeer pulling those sleighs. copyright date 1970 it's lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you -

If I've learned one thing over the years, it's that one should avoid entering into a committed relationship with a wooden coaster. Sure, they can be all nice in the beginning, then in only a couple of years they're an entirely different personality, and it's usually a change for the worse. And physically, they can really let themselves go. Downhill. Seriously though... -

This is more of a card, or brochure, but it's holiday/park-related and semi-historical. Below you'll find a list of events and the operating schedule for the second annual Holiday in the Park event, which began at Six Flags Over Texas in 1985. back inside front -

Well, this one has some holiday colors. Built in 1932, Rutschebanen is a side-friction coaster, meaning there are no upstop wheels, and a brakeman rides behind the last passenger seat. The park, Dyrehavsbakken, has been in operation since 1583! postmark August 1985 ...as they shouted out with glee... -

In another thread, forum member Sparebear75 has posted a great photo trip report of the amusement park inside the West Edmonton Mall, home of Mindbender, the "world's largest indoor triple loop roller coaster". Sadly, I've never ridden it, but several of my friends have, and didn't hesitate to rub in that fact by sending me a post card or two. The one below was postmarked 1987, the year after the accident. However, the photo shows the ride pre-accident with the original four-car trains. And four trains at that! -
It would be cool if they could do an Indiana Beach trick and put a Yo-Yo on the bay side of the boardwalk, out over the water. Perhaps that wouldn't be a good idea because the water of Galveston Bay is a bit more treacherous than Lake Shafer? High tide and all... While I'm dreaming: crazy dance/break dance. I know, takes up too much space...

Here's the monster ride that was an original attraction of the Oriental Corner section of AstroWorld, seen here from the neighboring Plaza de Fiesta section. Not a great photo of the monster ride, but Astrowheel is seen in the distance. And if you'll notice in the foreground, even back in 1968 AstroWorld's employees were diligently attending to their duties... -

Nice card, Mark. Does this show the site that Bamboozler (Round-Up) now occupies? Was the Aerodrome the same area later called "Pandamonium"? My first visit to WOF was in 1989 and I found their monster ride, then called Octopus, painted about five colors and smack in the middle of all their kiddie rides. [Let me apologize for posting a photo in the postcard thread, but this was a unique look for a monster ride.] summer 1989 -

Here's a turkey of a postcard, only because the object of my affection is in the distance and obscured by a building. This, of course, being the Crystal Beach Cyclone. Despite the caption on the card, I don't think the park's Giant Coaster can be seen in this photo. Without a postmark I'm not sure of the date of this card, but the Cyclone operated from 1926 through the 1946 season. -

"Himalaya Bahn" opened in 1983 (afaik) and is still touring the German fairs. In fact, after "Eurostar" has gone, it is the only big travelling coaster in Germany next to "Olympia Looping"... Thanks for the info, guys! Good to know it's still going strong after 25 years of thrills. I have some great memories of the monster that was an original attraction at AstroWorld, the beautiful Black Dragon. When the Coney Island section opened in 1976, it was relocated, the first of many flat rides to sit next to the Texas Cyclone. It was renamed Razzamatazz and received a strange makeover in both appearance and operation: going from black to orange, green, yellow and purple, I think? Plus, the motors that drive the four cars at the end of each arm were reversed to rotate in the same direction as the entire ride, making for some extreme forces. (Just imagine a Scrambler where all parts rotate in the same direction and you'll get the idea.) It was removed after the 1976 season. I think Worlds Of Fun still has one, and Lakemont has both a worse-for-wear monster and a beautiful looks-like-new Spider. I suspect their Monster is from SFOT or SFOG. One of those parks had a heavily themed one with lots of "monster"... uh... cosmetics/texture. Looked for some montage postcards and found one with both an old Schwarzkopf AND a Monster! A Schwarzkopf Jet Star 3 /Jumbo Jet, Glissade operated from 1975 to 1985
