Mark, I've recently seen a ride that seems to be inspired by the old Jumper ride, called Techno Jump, made by Italian ride manufacturer Sartori. Here it is in . It's probably one of those rides that is more fun to watch than ride, but it's quite impressive (and more so at night, I'm sure). And now for something completely different, an old Cedar Point card. postmark August 26, 1937 Does Breakers still look like this? Not much else does. -

Gerstlauer has developed a new "spin" on the Fly-O-Plane. Their Sky Roller was mentioned in a TPR thread a few months ago. Here's another card that pictures a Fly-O-Plane among lots of other flat rides common in the 1960s. -

Yeah, that's exactly what I had heard about them prior to my LW visit. Given another ten minutes or so of observation I probably would have tried it, but the rest of my party didn't have the patience/interest to indulge me. I really love the Chattanooga area and would like to return sometime soon, so maybe I'll have the opportunity to take a spin myself this year. -

Anyone here ridden a Fly-O-Plane? Seems the only known model in operation is at Lake Winnepesaukah (Rossville, GA). I watched that one with fascination a couple of years ago, but didn't give it a go. I have a couple of old post cards where the Fly-O-Plane is part of the usual landscape. This one features the Long Beach amusement zones. Photo probably early '60s? -

^Nice Park Asterix card. Did you ever tell us the answer to your Canada's Wonderland riddle? OK, same coaster, another twenty years in the past. This one is from 1941 and shows some of the same flats in the foreground as on the card from the 60s. postmark June 26, 1941 -

^^^^Beautiful Holiday World photos, Matteo! Waaaaay back in the summer of 1989, a park then known as Six Flags Over Mid-America invited coaster club members to come try out their "new" Arrow/Vekoma hybrid, Ninja. Some of us were escorted into restricted areas, and I had my camera! hot control panel action! oh, the pain... under Ninja red train blue train some views from the lift of Screamin' Eagle -

Here's Wild One at its original home, Paragon Park, in Hull Massachusetts, where it operated as Giant Coaster for nearly 70 years. -

Don't know the date of this card, but this coasterwas relocated from Paragon Park in 1986 to what is now now Six Flags America. This park was called Wild World through its 1993 season. A forum member in another thread is looking for photos of this ride prior to its 1932 reconfiguration due to fire. -
basketballs always tempted to prompt them to pass it to me, then I'd throw it as far off the path as possible... sadly, I'd never actually do anything like this, but I fantasize... I work in an airport and encounter the same basketball problem occasionally. I ignore it, as most areas are carpeted, but want to remind the passengers that they aren't at Six Flags...

Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride
restoca replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I must admit, I don't follow all the details of the construction of our favorite rides, but I think Troyalso had this slab approach to a foundation. I know, much of the Netherlands is a dehydrated swamp. And a slab that's reinforced with much rebar is wise protection against shifting soil due to either quake or bog. Did Renegade have similar beginnings? -
Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride

This is probably the attraction that will bring me back to SFMM for the first time since 1997, and I know I'll appreciate all the quality ride experience the gigantic slab foundation/footer premise will provide... BUT... I also consider some nature under my wooden coaster to be part of the pleasant experience... such as this image of Robin Hood. I don't mean to rain on the parade, but I'd like to know the technological advantage GCI finds to making a non-parking lot portion of a park into a parking lot prior to vertical construction of said coaster masterpiece. If the idea of "wide" in place of "deep" is considered a better control, I have to wonder if an earthquake zone is the proper environment... I guess it'll be easier to see the damage after a quake... -

I did some digging, but the postcards I have are not as early as you need. I have a couple from 1941 and 1962. Keep searching online, maybe set ebay to notify you of any listings for "paragon" in the postcard catagory. Good luck! -
Six Flags Mexico (SFM) Discussion Thread

^ I would have to agree. I've not ridden it, but the layout looks unique and interesting. Must be the Gerstlauer trains affecting its rating. I didn't care for them on Mega Zeph or Boss. Hmmmm... Who's been to Mexico recently?... Shane? -

Snow can make things look clean, sometimes. Nice photos. I've never made it to this park. Had I realized it's less than 50 miles from Quassy I probably would have while in that area. Next time. -

Thanks, Mark, for filling in some blanks. I know that there were probably hundreds of parks called White City, but didn't know about Shrewsbury/Worcester being one place. RCDB has little more than the coaster's location and that it's wooden. No dates, etc. I have another card from the same park, different woodie, must be the Zip. Will be posted here, of course. In the meantime, here's another blast from Mass. past. postmark Aug 6, 1928 Traver - operated 1927 to 1933 -

Maybe it's still only .01 if you send a postcard anonymously, with no message or zip code... I'll send all my postcards that way this summer and save a bundle! Seriously though, I can't believe this card went through the postal system and is still in such excellent condition. Must have been a very different system 100 years ago. -

Now that it's 2009, how about a card from 1906!? No record of this on rcdb, but looks like it could be a switchback railway. postmark Sep 30, 1906 -
Photos from behind the scenes!
restoca replied to CdnbMatt's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
While searching for photos of something else I found these of Fiesta Texas and the Rattler under construction. Also found some "behind the scenes" photos of another older woodie whose first drop was neutered. Will post those later. I suppose this view is unchanged since 1991, but seldom seen by riders. Dec 1991 - ahhh, the good ol' days - fantastic first drop, but not especially compatible with spinal columns (or Morgan trains) summer 1991 - I have more from this trip somewhere...
