  1. ^ We flew from Glasgow Prestwick to Paris Beauvais. It was very cheap for us because there was a loop hole on Ryanair's website that let me book flights tax free on those dates! But even then, Paris Beauvais is a cheap place to fly to from Glasgow, only thing is Beauvais is a bit away from Disney. We paid in advance for a shuttle to take us from the airport straight to the resort as we knew we weren't going to have much time there. Our flight landed at half nine in the morning and we were checked in to our hotel room for eleven. On the way back we just took the train to the centre of Paris when the park closed at six and then a bus journey to the airport which took an hour or so. Beauvais isn't the best airport either, we basically queued for the departure lounge the whole time we were in there due to the horrible staff operations. Still I got a cheap trip to Disney out of it so it was worth it! If Beauvais is the only feasible way for you to get there then go for it, but if there's any way to avoid flying to Beauvais definitely consider it. 2. Indy and Raging Spirits are both Intamin rides. To be honest I was pretty disappointed with Indy, it was rough in bits and for most part unexciting. At least it was running forwards though. We were so unimpressed that we only rode the once despite it being a walk on. Space Mountain was fun but wasn't without it's rough spots, but still it had a lot of enjoyable moments. i only wish I could have rode it before the redo. This was my first time staying in a Disney Resort and I have to say I really enjoyed it. It's much more of an "immersive" experience so despite not being in a park in the evening Disney Village provided us with plenty of entertainment. Saying all that, I think two days in the resort was enough. We spent maybe just about four hours in the Studios and we did everything, including Rock'n'Rollercoaster multiple times. I i imagine when the new rides open and the park's a bit busier it might seem a bit more substantial. No Jungle Cruise is a bit of a bummer but I think worse than that is no Splash Mountain! Or any real water ride would be great for the resort but still beggars can't be choosers I suppose, I was just happy to get to a Disney park on the cheap.
  3. Glad you had a good day out there! Well done on giving some coasters a go, even if you didn't particulary enjoy Grand National. Did you give the Big Dipper a go? Noah's Ark is in a bit of a state these days, which is a shame since it's such a classic attraction. At least it looks like they've started some work on restoring it. Blackpool's my favourite park in the UK so I'm always happy to see new trip reports from there. Think I'll be visiting myself within the next month or two.
  4. Yeah, so the Studios park isn't a full day park yet, they're working on it! Four new rides opening there within the next 12 months including Tower of Terror and the Finding Nemo coaster. When has there been a Disney park in recent memory that hasn't opened like that? MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom, California Adventure and DisneySea all faced exactly the same "there isn't much to do" criticism when they first opened. The park is in France so the it's only natural that things are going to be written and spoken in French from time to time. Personally I think they do a great job of catering to most European languages, especially English. When I was there never once did I feel I was missing something due to the language barrier. Again only speaking from my own experience but there was never a time that I didn't feel completely satisfied with how the cast members conducted themselves. I didn't see any of them smoking, on phones or being aggressive. As I said earlier I didn't have a problem with the language barrier, every cast member I spoke to spoke fluent English. I may be wrong but I think it's actually a prerequisite to speak at least one more language to work in DLRP. I even encountered a cast member who spoke in six or seven different languages. For me the reason I went on this trip is because it was so cheap! We paid £62.50 each and that got us a two day park hopper and a night in their Santa Fe Hotel. Considering to go and buy a two day park hopper at the gate would have cost £67 I think we got a pretty good deal! You just need to shop around a bit. I didn't find much of a difference between what I usually spend at UK parks and what I spent at DLRP. Not sure on how the pricing compares to the US parks but it's not something that's going to play a major role in putting me off visiting the parks again. Can't help you there, as I said before it's a personal thing. I thought it compared quite well with my Florida experiences but that's just me. Thanks man, I tend not to visit many places without sporting some kind of Celtic apparel! I'm sure you'll have a great time in June, you should get to ride Crush's Coaster too so I look forward to your TR!
  5. It's not a case of "winning" mate. It's just case of pointing out that we're not as bad off here as you're making out. You've said you wanted a Six Flags park for the UK then said that's not what you meant it was a Disney style park you wanted then proceeded to start dissing the nearest Disney park to you? I guess there's just no pleasing some people. Again, not about winning just arguing an opinion.
  6. I was at Disneyland Paris a few weeks ago and have to say it is an awesome park. I've been to Florida too and despite me preferring the Florida resort overall I think that Disneyland Park in Paris actually looks better than the Florida Magic Kingdom. Discoveryland's retro future style works a lot better than Tommorrowland in my opinion. As you said Big Thunder in Paris is excellent. Phantom Manor is amazing too and really makes Frontierland complete. Fantasyland in Florida also pales in comparison due to the whole medieval fair thing they've got going on, the Paris version seems a bit more substantial. When it comes to things like feeling "magic" that's down to one's own perception. I thought the Paris Disney parks had a similar "magic" feeling to that of Florida. Also had no problems with the staff in Paris, of course it was pretty quiet when I was there so it may be different at peak times. Although I'm sure the staff quality at DLRP would still surpass the quality of staff at most non-Disney parks in the US or Europe. Again just my opinion but I think you do Disneyland Resort Paris a tremendous disservice.
  7. Tom pretty much hit the nail on the head here, but here are my thoughts. I think you do the UK a tremendous disservice Adam. For the size of the country we have an excellent selection of parks. If you live in central England then pretty much every park in the country is only a few hours away. On top of that we have two of the best parks in the world in Blackpool and Alton Towers. Most Americans have only a handful of parks within that range. You've asked why there's no Six Flags park in the UK and argued there should be because you want a well themed park well Alton Towers has far better theming than any US Six Flags park I've seen (still to visit a Six Flags park in the US but I'm pretty confident that's true). If you want a Six Flags in the UK you should visit Thorpe Park that hits the Six Flags vibe quite well. As others have said planning laws in the UK are very strict. Blackpool is the only place in the UK where something like the Big One would be built, and they won't be building anything else of that stature for a while. Stealth at Thorpe Park was a one off. I think in the UK we've got it pretty good theme park wise. Especially with Disneyland Paris only a couple of hours away too I don’t see how you can complain.
  8. It's actually already been uploaded to the net. If you know how to work bittorrent software you can download quite a few of these shows.
  9. Looking at the Newsround page the competition doesn't close until April 10th. So it looks like the ride will not be open for Easter weekend as some were speculating. I'm interested to see how the public reacts to the ride now that it's almost open. BPB have a pretty good track record when it comes to hyping up their new rides so I'm expecting this to be big for BPB. Even if it is just a relocated SLC to some of us it's looking more and more apparent to me that this new coaster is huge for the Pleasure Beach. Oh and I'm almost certain that these are NOT new trains but would be happy to be proven wrong.
  10. I think it looks great, lets me see all the latest updates without scrolling. Not that there was any problems with scrolling before, but still, if it makes me lazier I'm all for it!
  11. That looks awesome! Wasn't too excited about this one but now that its nearly open I kinda want to go ride it! Will probably be a while before I get to Efteling so thanks for providing these pictures. Looking forward to the video.
  12. If you plan on doing a few rides you'd be as well going for a wristband. You can usually get one for no more than £20 and if you have it you might feel more inclined to ride more things. David "5ft 11 and had no problems riding Zipper Dipper last August" Walsh
  13. I'd go with what the order niiicolaaah gave and back up what people are saying about the Wild Mouse. It's quite the shocker if you're not prepared. I do hope your fears do not preclude you from riding Valhalla because then you'd be really missing out!
  14. Thoroughly enjoyed reading that. Looks like both of you had a really awesome time. It's been nine years since I've been to Florida. Hopefully I can work things out so I can get back this year. Reading trip reports like this just make me more anxious! Thanks again!
  15. Well you never know because it was announced today that Scotland are sixteenth in the world! How the hell do Fifa come up with these rankings? Scotland haven't qualified for a mjor tournament in ten years! But yeah on topic I imagine South Africa would be looking pretty cool come 2010 when the eyes of the world are on them - not that it doesn't look pretty cool already of course!
  16. Thanks for this TR! Shame you missed out on Ratanga Junction and a couple of the credits, but still you got to ride Anaconda which just looks and sounds awesome! I'm sure I'll get to South Africa some day. maybe I'll time my trip to coincide with the 2010 World Cup.
  17. Congratulations guys! All the best to the two of you, I know you will be wonderful parents.
  18. I'm with Elissa on LOVING that Romber came first! Eric & Danielle seemed pretty insignificant to me, I still don't really know what they're doing there other than the fact that the poducers thought it'd be fun to have a mix team. Somehow I get a sad feeling they'll win this. Really gutted to see teams like David& Mary and Uchenna & Joyce over BJ & Tyler. I assumed they'd be automatic picks for this edition. As well as Romber I'm glad to see Dustin & Kandice, Teri & Ian and for comedy value Drew & Kevin. I get the feeling Kevin & Drew won't get anywhere near fourth place this time though.
  19. Thanks for these photos! Always great to see some "rare" parks. Chimelong Paradise looks really clean and nicely landscaped for what there is.
  20. ^ What alterations? As far as I can see it's the same bog standard SLC that I rode in Southport. Not that i'm expecting any different. That's a really cool photo Tom - shows how BPB can shoehorn just about anything into the park. It's weird how it looks kinda tiny in the photos, whereas in Southport it towered over everything. I'd imagine you'd notice that even more when in the park.
  21. Cracking TR Tom! The Toboggan looks messed up! I feel that I need to ride one in some kind of twisted way. How many rides called Shockwave have you rode now?!
  22. Wow, never knew there was a Predator in there at one point! Funnily enough, I was thinking the other day that it might be smart to include a Predator to hype the AVP2 movie!
  23. I'm sure the actors will be able to have some kind of contact with the guests. It's one of the key elements of the experience. Maybe they'll get the guests to sign some kind of waiver before going in.
  24. Thanks everyone for the kinds words. Yeah Tom, the sheer amount of Pirates movie stuff on sale leads me to believe that a movie upgrade of the ride is inevitable. I definitely wouldn't object to that, although I am glad I got the chance to ride it in it's original state. And yeah, the park looks awesome. A lot of the landscaping really sets it apart from the Magic Kingdom for me. Not that there's anything wrong with the Florida version because I actually do prefer that one overall, but a lot of the individual elements of the Paris park surpass what I saw and did in Florida all those years ago. Just need to visit the other Disney parks to compare further now! With regards to Tower, it looks as though they're redoing the whole area around it to give it a kind of Hollywood feel. Even the entrance to the Studio Tram Tour is being redone so here's hoping it looks really cool come Tower's opening day. Edit: ^ Thanks for the link! That looks really cool. I'm quite a fan of the whole Jules Verne thing so I imagine I'd have really loved that!
  25. ^ I think that's being a bit presumptive. I don't think H&S would affect Alien War to any great extent. If anything, it should be better now that there is a chance to improve the attraction. Are we in any more of a "nanny state" now than we were back in 2000? Because when I visited AW at the Irn-Bru Carnival back then the actors were right into it and were touching away at people. Hmm, that didn't sound right, but still I'm pretty hopeful the attraction should match up to what it was in 2000. Not quite what it was in the Arches, but still a pretty close replica.
