  1. can't go back to talking about the coaster without: (i)Ron-nie James Dio
  2. Glad to hear y'all had a good time. what Coasters did y'all go on? (did the kiddo like Mr. Freeze? or was that one too big?). I hope y'all went on Shockwave -- that's my favorite coaster in the world
  3. "Runaway Mine Train" hasn't been used at Fiesta, and in that part of the park, with minimal additional themeing, it could work. I'll bet Six Flags Over Texas has extra signage they could ship down
  4. it was. . yeah. that boring Helix of death (count your ribs when you get off) rockets it up to the top!
  5. "alpengeistfan1" didn't vote for Alpengeist? LOL. . too funny. My vote is for Shockwave at Six Flags Over Texas. . huge fan of that ride, and have been on it over 100 times.
  6. yes, definately bring a hat there are some shaded areas, but as you noted, "shade" is not one of SFoT's highlights! a 5 year old, hmmm. . . OK, he likes rollercoasters, then do not miss: La Vibora -- HIT THIS FIRST (left once you enter the park). This is a perfectly adequate Bobsleds, the kids love it, and the lines get HUGE thruout the day. . so start here, THEN go hit the Chute out. other coasters for a younger kid: Runaway Mountain (indoor coaster) Runaway Mine Train (1st with tubular steel tracks, fairly smooth, and a classic) Judge Roy Scream (a great 1st Woodie coaster, and you drive right by it on the way into the park) Pandemonium (a standard spinning coaster, but the kiddos love it) and maybe. . if he's not too scared of them: Shockwave (the classic double loop), and Batman coasters. for a 5 year old, I think Giant, Titan, Mr. Freeze are probably going to be too intense. . but you know your kiddo better than me, so make the call once you see the coasters. we usually stay at the Best Western (literally across the street from Judge Roy Scream), and simply walk to the park, instead of paying the parking price. have a great time!
  7. Rattler was bad. but I think the worst we ever have been on was GhostRider at Knott's. that one just about killed us, and we still talk about how much we hated it.
  8. ain't that old fashioned, since this is exactly what I would say too! Zipper rules!
  9. Very sad to see the Chute Out go. we never had to wait in line for it, and it brings back fond memories every time we pass it when we go between Dallas/Ft. Worth gonna miss it. Heck, I loved the Planes (the other tower ride) SFoT took out years ago to replace with the Superman Tower. That one also never had a line, because it appeared so lame.. but when you were on them? WOW.
  10. Thanks everyone! greatly appreciate the suggestions
  11. thanks folks. I have gone to Georgia every year for Dragon*con, and have never actually made it to SF0G (we're always too busy with the convention). this is the first year (in 17 years) we are skipping Dragon*con - we needed a break. . LOL. so that's not a bad suggestion, since I know the city of Atlanta very well, and Southwest just started flying there. Is there a MARTA option from the airport to SFOG? (Great Adventure would definitely be an option as well)
  12. we're open to any of em. . tho if it was one that Southwest Airlines flies to, that's a +
  13. HI All, I've gotten an itch to take a vacation at end of August, and since my Partner doesn't want to go, my best friend and I are discussing booking a flight/hotel, and just going to a Six Flags park (since we've never used our Season Pass outside of Texas). so some questions I could use some advice on: -- are any of the parks close to the Airports? -- any Hotel suggestion (one that may offer transportation to the park?) -- what is the best park to visit (for someone who hasn't been to any of them other than the Texas parks). any suggestion would be appreciated best, bert
  14. considering the area it's in, is the Western area? prolly will come back with something very, very similar in name.
  15. LOVING your trip report. please continue posting the pics
  16. wrong end of the car. this is the requirement in Texas
  17. Though I doubt it would happen, it would be cool if they did a near-vertical drop similar to NTAG which lead into a double up into the first turn. However instead of turning back around, it went along to the right, diving and rising off and on the cliff, until it got to the other side of the park. From there it could do an intense helix/some other element, then make its way back. Probable never going to happen, but hey, at least SFFT is finally receiving a signature ride that (hopefully) will have tons of airtime. they kinda have that (at least among Texans) with Poltergeist. that was the main reason we started going to the park. (I know, there's a Joker themed copy of that ride in another SF park, but for Texas,it's kinda signature)
  18. I think that's what they were attempting to do with the helix. It just doesn't work
  19. as others have said, the Helix has always been terribly boring. and the ride just hasn't been much fun (for YEARS and YEARS now) ever since they re-did the 1st drop. but I'd love for them to keep most of the ride, and do something instead of that helix.
  20. is it "leaving" or being re-furbed? I can't imagine they would pull the only Wooden coaster out of Fiesta, Tx.
  21. check out the post counts on those of us that commented after Robb chimed in. most of us would be considered the GP, before joining up here
  22. I really enjoyed it -- although I wish they had gone a bit more into the "making of" .. ie: WHY Alpengiest was build with 4 inversions (ie: loops ) instead of 5?. . that's the kind of stuff I enjoy learning about. but overall, I thought it was very good. Even as I questioned why they didn't bother naming the other coasters that would appear in shots (here's a fantastic shot of Loch Ness Monster's famous interlocking loops. . but we are gonna ignore that). . LOL but My DVR is set for this
  23. never been turned away, but I HAVE been extremely uncomfortable on "Ghost Rider". . . man, those seats are tiny! and I haven't been on New Texas Giant, but had stopped riding it years ago, since it was so bumpy, and the squeeze into the seat wasn't making for a great ride experience (tho I'll bet the re-do w/ the steel tracks help with that issue immensely, so I expect to ride when we go back this Summer).
  24. tho I grew up so close to Astroworld that many of those coasters will always have a dear place in my heart (go Serpent!, you'll live forever). I'd have to say my favorite coaster, and the one I'll always go on multiple times when we make it up to Arlington is: Shockwave -- Six Flags Over Texas
  25. there must have been more than one show with Elissa on it, since this one had the date of 2002 on it, and while they were at Knotts, it was prior to Xcellerator, SilverBullet, and Sierra Sidewinder. the only coasters they went on at Knott's were: Jaguar, Montezooma's Revenge, and Ghostrider. I'd assume they had already closed Windjammer (didn't that close 2001). . but who knows why they didn't show those. . but certainly they would have gone on Xcellerator, or SilverBullet if they were at Knotts at the time of filming?
