can't really speak to most of your question, but I do know that when we go, we stay at Hilton Anaheim (near the Convention Center) not sure if that works for "saving money". . as it can be more expensive than the cheapies, but it's a beautiful Hotel, that not only has a shuttle to the font gates, but is in WALKING DISTANCE to front gates. that's where I'd stay, if this helps any

TR: The CHARM of Conneaut Lake Park
bert425 replied to John Peck's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
while it IS very nice to see some TLC given (it's spruced up quite a bit). .all those empty spaces, where the rides used to be, are just sad. either put a ride there, or at least plant gardens. . something! -

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

To me, Kings Dominion has one world-class coaster (I305), two very good coasters (Volcano and Dominator), one "interesting" coaster (Flight of Fear), and two decent woodies (Rebel Yell and Grizzly). Not a bad line-up at all. a great junior woodie in Woodstock Express too. and we enjoyed the bobsleds very much -

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

I understand that this isn't the time or the thread for rational thinking but personally KD might still be my favorite park in the chain after Cedar Point. I prefer it to Ki, Knotts, Carowinds, Dorney and Wonderland for sure. KI might have a better coaster lineup (debatable) but KD has much nicer atmosphere, great flats and a spectacular log flume. Anyway go back to your relentless bitching. we loved it when we visited last year, and they have a really great woodie in Woodstock Express (that many folks skip, since it's a junior coaster) Even after visiting BGW, we still very much enjoyed this park (other than Hurler, of course, which beat the crappola out of us). but any park with such a great kids section, as well as the Tower, Volcano, Intimidator, that amazing Drop Tower, and a really decent bobsleds? I just don't get the complaining. but oh well. . most of those complaining seem rather young, so maybe they will learn to appreciate what they have instead of bitching about what they wish they had. -

Good Eating Outside of Theme Parks
bert425 replied to cfc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
TOTALLY forgot about this thread. . but I have one from our recent trip to Tampa: Shells (less than 5 minutes from BGT). here's what I wrote about it in my trip report: He recommended a seafood place near BGT called “Shells” that he claimed was really good, and was a small Tampa chain. He said everyone he’s sent there has loved it, so we took him at his word and gave it a shot. A true throwback restaurant, it looked like it hadn’t been touched since built in the 70’s. The hostess stand was in the shape of a rowboat! With a big bar in the center, and lots of tacky aquariums and netting throughout. Oh, and the music playing was 70’s soft rock. .it was PERFECT for us and I loved it immediately. Majority of the food options were fried (of course!), but I ended up with blackened fish with a spicy sauce that was very good. . and the fried clam and Seafood Dip appetizers were very good too. Nick had a chowder, and I confused the waiter by asking if it came with Oyster Crackers, since he loves those and really wanted some. The waiter was thrown, since he thought I was asking for oysters. .LOL.. young-uns. (it came with saltines instead). The deserts looked like straight out of 70’s diner, but we were so full, didn’t even order any. . and the bar drinks all sounded good . . makes sense since there was a huge bar in the center of the restaurant, but I was avoiding alcohol all trip, since I was already being bad on my diet. . so didn’t try those either. Unfortunately no pics of the restaurant, since both phones were in the room charging, but if you get to Tampa check out the place, it was very good and right around the corner from BGT – we saw the fireworks from the Kinetix show on the way back to the hotel after eating. some pics from the web: -
PTR and review of Forever Florida

that looks fun, but as my Hubby is terrified of heights? the only way I'll ever see it is thru these pics. so thanks for sharing them! -
we were just there last month, and although there ARE cubbies on most of the stations for small objects, several times we were not even allowed in the queue with a small bag, and had to go get a "bunnie" the cost is reasonable, but it was a bit annoying, as they filled up quickly, and several times we had to wait for the staff to open a locker and remove someone's stuff. for SURE that happened (bunny needed) on Cobra's Curse, Montu, and Cheetah Hunt. can't recall on SheiKra, and for sure did NOT happen on Scorpion (they have cubbies), Kumba (cubbies) and Sand Serpent. and every day we were in the park (Trip report floating around somewhere on the 1st couple of pages), *all* rides (including train) shut down for weather, and 2 of the 3 days things didn't reopen. So i'd recommend going in the morning if you want rides, but anytime, if you are fine doing shows or animals when things shut down. ETA: skip the all day dining, you won't need it. The Pretzels are great, but I'd highly recommend the Serengetti Overlook buffet (directly across from Cheetah Hunt, on the 3rd floor above the pub). It was $18 but the food was excellent and so filling, we didn't really need to eat again that day. a cheaper option is the Garden Grill Pizza buffet, but that wasn't really that good. hope this helps!

KD literally said they will not be GCI'ing Hurler. Where? When they said they'll be doing it *in house*? "in house" ?? OMG. .that means no Engineers are even going to be looking at the plans! (why yes, I get all my Roller Coaster info from the "accident at Schlitterbahn" thread) -

great report. . that's very similar to the trip we did a couple of years ago (same parks), tho we flew into Pittsburgh, then drove to Philly, so we hit them: Kennywood, Hershey, Knobel's, Dorney, and then lots of "culture" stuff in Philly. it's a wonderful trip, and cant wait to see the rest of your report! -

I THOUGHT some of that stuff looked familiar! I never put 2 & 2 together to realize they film it there. -
Colonial Williamsburg is less than 10 minutes from BGW, and they have some fun pubs/restaurants and night time activities, but you have to pre-book them.
