Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
Joe21498 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ I agree that the WWL site is the location of the 2007 attraction. I would also love to see the dueling flyer but I also wouldn't mind seeing a 500 footer. The only thing is the 500 footer I would want needs to be at least 7000 feet long. Like you said though who knows what it is going to be at this early stage. If you're in "the know" your also in the group that isn't allowed to talk about the ride. It does look pretty certain that the ride will be called MAVERICK though. Unless the release of this information causes them to change the name but I highly doubt it. -

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Well What is going on then. I certainly don't know what the attraction is going to be. I think they may use the WWL building for another purpose, like a show, restaurant, or something else like storage. As far as what the coaster will be in 2007 I don't know anyone who has definitively said it will be this. We've all heard the rumors but those are rumors, sure would be nice to know. Looking towards history the CPLE tracks were moved 5 feet when they put in MF but for this new attraction I hear they have been moved 14 feet. This doesn't tell me what the ride may be though. -
Final Destination 3
Joe21498 replied to KrakenKing's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yes derailments have occurred in the past but in no way were these similar to what is seen in the movie trailer. In real life none of these coasters had a total derailment like in the movie trailer. Cars either decoupled or partially derailed. In the movie it appears that a multitude of mechanical failures occur all at once. From what I have seen these include: Restraint failures Wheel failures Track structural failures For all of these things to occur at once in real life would just be near impossible. The probability of three events occurring at the exact same time is quite thin. Basically what I'm trying to say is the movie is just that a movie. Things that happen just are outrageous and are done that way to please or scare the audience and sell tickets. Even though the movie appears very unrealistic I plan on going to see it on the big screen. I figure it should be a good laugh. -
Cedar Fair's "Maverick"
Joe21498 replied to MJHammer1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This sounds like a flying coaster theme If you ask me. Maybe a spin off of the movie Top Gun. I know that Cedar Fair doesn't use movies for themes but that is what came to mind when I saw the name. Seems like a good theme to put on the 2007 attraction coming to Cedar Point. -
I'm planning on going to Disneyland for a weekend trip in the near future and needed to get a few questions answered. I'm coming from Detroit Michigan and would like not to rent a vehicle if possible. Does Disney or someone else provide an affordable means of transportation to and from the airport. Which airport is the best to fly into to ease transportation to and from Disneyland. What are some nearby hotels that are affordable and within walking distance of the park. Is it reasonably easy to find transportation to and from Knott's Berry Farm. Is there anywhere to purchase discounted tickets to Disney. I'm looking to do a hopper pass in order to visit both parks. I can get into Knott's for free. Please help me out if possible!

Cosidering the rave reviews these S&S swings keep getting I am also excited to ride this. I'm also curious to see what's going on where WWL once stood when the season begins in May. -
Fans want Mr. Six back!
Joe21498 replied to Thrillrider15's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I agree that I would like to see Mr. Six stay. I have enjoyed the marketing the park has used in the past few years when using Mr. Six. I think that maybe they should consider using Mr. Six marketing methods in combination with a new method in the future. Then they could conduct a study to see which was a more effective means of creating revenue for the comapny. I have also heard that they are considering getting rid of the Looney Toons in the parks. Is this true, has anyone heard anything about this? -

I can't stand how the Paul Ruben guy doesn't fasten his seatbelt all the way tight and leaves his lapbar up a bit. He even noticeably stands up on the bunny hills when riding Superman at SFDL. Does this guy want to die or something. It's people like this that become the cause of coaster accidents. I just don't know why the park will allow that to go on, especially when it is filmed. If you watch other chain parks in the shows like Cedar Point and Dorney the guests are all forced to hold the grab bars and follow other proper rider instructions. You certainly don't see lose seatbelts and spacious lapbars.

Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

I haven't decided if I want to give up an opening day tradition at Cedar Point to spend opening day at Holiday World, what do you guys think? Considering how awesome Hades was it may be worth missing out on a new swing ride to ride a sweet woodie. -

The screen name I use comes from way back before I was even in high school. It is my name followed by the date that I started going out with my future wife Misty. I asked her to be my girlfriend in 1998 on Valentines Day, hence 2-14-98. We have been together ever since and plan to get married eventually. I use the screen name all over the place because it is easy to remember. Me, my old lady Misty, and my dog Bandit on Halloween.

MagicMountain all year pass for $49?!
Joe21498 replied to SpectralN's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ I also agree Robb, MM is not the only place this happens. I have had similar experiences at SFA, Paramount Kings Dominion, and some other parks. No park is perfect, that's for sure. Some parks do seem to be better than other though in overall experience. For example I can't say i've ever had a bad experience at Hersheypark, Dorney, or Mt. Olympus. Even when these places get packed (Mt. Olympus never seems to be busy) they seem to be able to handle it. This isn't true for some parks, when they get packed they jsut can't handle it. In the end though the general public is still satisfied at any of these parks. They are not enthusiasts of the industry. Also the general public doesn't usually visit multiple parks witin the same operating season or maybe even ever. Most of the general public has a home park that they attend annually. If they never go anywhere besides this park then they obviously don't know that the "grass may be greener on the other side." -
MagicMountain all year pass for $49?!
Joe21498 replied to SpectralN's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I agree that the 49 dollar rate is way to low. If you have a park that provides a enjoyable experience to visitors you can charge more than 49 bucks for a season of fun. Like I have said in the past Cedar Fair parks season passes are twice the amount or more of most Six Flags parks. Even with these higher prices people still buy these passes. I myself don't think twice when it comes to renewing my Cedar Point pass because I know that the experience for the season to come will be worth the money i'm paying. I don't believe the above statement would hold true at SFMM. If season passes were 100 bucks or more at MM less people would buy them and then multiple visits to the park would be less likley. The price is low because the general public doesn't feel the park is worth 100 bucks to visit all year. In my opinion the general public is correct. The park doesn't provide the entertainment and services that justify that kind of pricing. If the park had a better staff, services, and managment maybe this story would be different. When I have visited MM I have found it to basically be a nightmare. First off you have to deal with the strip search at the gate. Also if didn't have a season pass you would have to buy a ticket and I can only imagine how fun that experience could be. Then you have to stand jammed in that box like entry area until the park opens an hour later. When the gates finally open you run to a ride that is either closed for no reason or still hasn't been even tested for the day. The last time I was there we ran to X only to wait an hour while they ran morning tests that they started after the gates to the park where open for the day. These types of experiences continue throughout the day normally. Things like rediculously slow dispatch times and the use of one train operation on a ride with a massive line are all standard procedure at SFMM. Basically by the end of the day you are angry and frustrated. This is a feeling I have not experienced at most of the other 26 parks I have ever been to in my life. Maybe if the park improved some of these issues then they could actually charge a normal season pass rate. The problems at this park are massive and require time and proper managment to repair. Will they ever get fixed, who knows. but it sure would be nice if they at least tried.
