  1. Got Oblivion from Redbox last night. Wasn't too bad. It's a real testament to Tom Cruise's charisma to hold my attention by himself for extended periods of time amidst hackneyed writing and a hodgepodge script composed of almost every sci-fi plot twist ever devised up to date. Shyamalan would positively wet himself to have been able to make this post-apocalyptic movie and not another failed launchpad for Will Smith's son's star, but that's what happens when you screw up one too many times. But I digress. Overall, it worked, even if it wasn't memorable or insightful in any way. I give it a B. This also being the 25th film of 2013 I've seen, I'm ready to post what I think are the top 5 of the year so far of what I've seen: 1. Spring Breakers 2. Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox 3. Monsters University 4. Evil Dead 5. 42 ... I REALLY hope the rest of the year is better than what has come up to now. Really, really, really hope.
  2. Hellcat (Timber Falls Adventure Park) - 9/1/13
  3. My home park finally got something new! I really don't care that it's a Windseeker. Really at this point they needed something. They haven't had anything new on the park side since 2005. Still holding out hope they'll get an El Loco at some point... or maybe just tear out The Underground and let their imaginations run wild. What a waste of space that thing is.
  4. Did a double feature of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey last night after getting back from Wisconsin Dells. These movies are so firmly a product of their time, and yet they have held up tremendous in their overall goofy charm. They are the kind of films that could only have been made when they were made.
  5. In no particular order... Goliath (SFGAm) - RMC continues to prove their flexibilty with a very compact coaster with some very consistent and surprising thrills. The Zero-G stall looks more insane than any element coming out of the 2014 announcements. I'll be there opening day Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom (SFGAdv) - This is mostly on here because next year I am planning on taking my first trip to the northeast and hitting SFGAdv along with Hersheypark, so I look to actually be riding this. It's a nice placement overlooking the entire park and the shudder of Kingda Ka racing up it will add to the terror of being that high up, waiting to drop. Medusa Steel Coaster (SF Mexico) - THAT DROP. Another Iron Horse revival that looks anything but disappointing. Falcon's Fury (BGT) - I have been dreaming of a drop tower like this for years. This will without doubt be the scariest new ride of next year. Banshee (KI) - B&M has been getting more creative with their invert layouts as of late, and Banshee looks like the next progression after OzIris, retooling lots of inversions like a completely different kind of Batwing. It looks like a crowd-eater and a crowd-pleaser. One can just hope its a more forceful B&M than the ones of late. Helix (Liesberg) - Even though it's a veritable ocean away, the layout looks like one of the best ever. I envy everything that gets to ride it next year.
  6. ^^^^ Oh Six Flags, don't try to top YOLOcoaster. You won't ever do it.
  7. So they are keeping Iron Wolf's station... interesting.
  8. It sounded like a board member suggestion, which was met with the fact that its not viable given the other structures nearby (train tracks)
  9. Wow that looks short. If that's right, it's going to hit the break run with speed to burn.
  10. Someone just said "you can move" XD Thank god Gurnee isn't Staffordshire.
  11. That weird looking hill on the bottom right, that has to be an inversion
  12. Assuming anything will. I'd love to see SFGAm shoehorn their latest addition in. Working with constraints often leads to more creativity in the design. Just look at Wodan at Europa Park. EDIT: OMG look at the ACEr in the stream! XD
  13. Looking at Google Maps, Southwest Amphitheater is in a strange place to be removed to be of any addition to the current Eagle layout if that's what's being worked on, and I can't see them dramatically changing American Eagle, by all means the structural landmark of SFGAm... What about a roller coaster (preferably RMC) that duels with both sides of American Eagle? That would explain why they would gut that area by the ampitheater in proximity to Giant Drop, and at the same time why they would be surveying over by Eagle? And they would close the blue side as a matter of safety to begin construction while being able to leave the red side open depending on where they are doing the construction. Or is that too high-concept for Six Flags?
  14. Arrow - Demon (Six Flags Great America, 1996) B&M - Iron Wolf (Six Flags Great America, 1998) CCI - Outlaw (Adventureland - IA, 2011) Cobb - Judge Roy Scream (Six Flags Over Texas, 2004) Dinn - Mean Streak (Cedar Point, 2003) Disney - Space Mountain (WDW Magic Kingdom, 2006) Gerstlauer - Pandemonium (Six Flags Fiesta Texas, 2012) Giovanola - Titan (Six Flags Over Texas, 2004) GCI - Renegade (Valleyfair!, 2012) Hopkins - Dragon (Adventureland - IA, 2011) Intamin - Blue Streak (Paramount's Great America, 1990 - *FIRST EVER*) Mack - Avalanche (King's Dominion, 2011) Morgan - Wild Thing (Valleyfair!, 2012) PTC - Blue Streak (Cedar Point, 2003) Premier - Mr. Freeze (Six Flags Over Texas, 2004) Reverchon - Primeval Whirl (WDW Animal Kingdom, 2006) Schwarzkopf - Whizzer (Six Flags Great America, 1992) Six Flags In-House - Viper (Six Flags Great America, 1996) Togo - Shockwave (KIng's Dominion, 2011) Vekoma - Spacely's Sprocket Rockets (Six Flags Great America, 1998) Zamperla - Ragin' Cajun (Six Flags Great America, 2004) Zierer - Pepsi Orange Streak (Nickelodeon Universe, 2012)
  15. ^ The last time they had a zoning meeting was for the Chang that got away, and they brought blueprints with them revealing it was indeed Chang. Not sure if that will happen again, but it's something to expect. As taking care of zoning ahead of time, as others have mentioned, the village of Gurnee are big proponents of new attractions at SFGAm, most likely due to the fact that it is the primary reason the town ever became as thriving and sprawling as it is, and I don't think I've ever heard of them turning down any zoning project ever. Someone with more knowledge and years might be able to prove me wrong, but as far as I've known, SFGAm always gets what they want.
  16. ^ Don't visit ANY theme park on a Saturday in August.
  17. Saw Elysium last night. *sigh*... another disappointment of the 2013 summer season. It's political allusions were so thick and overbearing and the plot was too rote and cliche to rise above it.There are a few good performances including Sharlto Copley and the breakout of this film, Wagner Moura, and from a technical standpoint, everything is tops. Still, I can't bring myself to like it. It's a good movie, barely so, but I hated every preachy let-us-think-for-you moment of it. B- overall, and part of that is generosity for the director leftover from "District 9".
  18. SFGAm announced both V2 and Deja Vu for the same season back in 2001 where V2 opened on time and Deja Vu was SBNO for most of the season until Fright Fest. SFMM did two in 2011 with Green Lantern and RRE as well to better success (opening them, not necessarily the rides themselves) However both of these investments were both fairly moderate as far as coasters for big parks goes and didn't require a great deal of time to erect. For KI to do an invert and a wing rider in the same season would be absolutely bananas.
  19. ^^ This has already been covered. There is no point to an inverted wing coaster as it can't bring anything new to the table, except lots of very very wide support structures to allow for clearance. It would limit maneuverability, would cost a bunch more in extra supports, and probably wouldn't look that good.
  20. ^ Legit, that is a seriously awesome logo. If CF doesn't use it here, they need to use it somewhere.
  21. I lol'd so hard at the "no commentary" disclaimer for the second POV part. You'd swear these people either can't find the mute button on Youtube and/or probably go on the rides themselves and tell people to stop screaming in mid-ride because it's ruining the "experience" for them Seriously though, THANK YOU for this! I have been dying for a good quality POV of Iron Shark, and I'm sure many others have too, since they opened it and you deliver as always. Good show, sir! Jolly good show!
  22. ^^Discussion of a tragic incident really isn't the best place for a "hilarious" story of your aunt breaking a ride with her weight. Please show a little more decorum.
