Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

How do the flyers at KD compare to, say, the flyers at Carowinds? Those are the only ones I've been on. We are new to the whole flyer thing and SO was able to get some serious snappage at Carowinds. We'll be at KD this week and I'd like to try to get the hang of this mysterious snapping thing for myself, if KD's are possible to snap. -

I wasn't going to comment on this mess but I completely feel this way. They have a really great collection of rides - no doubt about it - but I can't pinpoint it other than the lineup for me personally feels stale and the past 2 years I've found myself just not that interested in going. I'd rather drive twice or three times the distance to visit SFGAdv, BGW, or HP instead. Interestingly, I've been to SFGAdv 6 times this season already not including 2 visits to HITP and multiple visits last year, but I'm never bored at all. If I'm having a relaxing day I can walk around and find tons of slower rides to go on and enjoy the park that way. A slow day for me at KD means doing a lap and skipping half the rides. With that said, I'll be going to SFGAdv this Wed and KD the following Thurs and I'll have a great time both parks. When I told SO that they announced more Planet Snoopy rides this morning he looked at me puzzled, then said "Didn't they just do major Snoopy stuff a couple years ago?" "Yes, I believe they have one of, if not the largest, Planet Snoopy area of any CF park." "Um, so... why are they doing more there again? That seems unnecessary." He likes coasters but isn't a parkaholic so his take on it was pretty funny. -

Anyone know if anything else was announced at the pool party tonight? -
I saw the start of your TR a few weeks ago and didn't get a chance to finish it until now. Really cool little trip you went on. Next year I'll be going to Dollywood for the first time and have a list going of other fun things to do in the area like alpine coasters, evidently there's a great aquarium, and that fantastical xmas store is on the list now too!

Thanks for the pics. I've been in denial about Flying Falcon leaving but seeing that sign seals the deal. I do hope they'll relocate it as it's my favorite flat ride anywhere! But, I'm not holding my breath -

We were just there and had the talked-about grouper who takes the job very seriously and isn't super accommodating to requests. However, I chatted with him for awhile and he eventually told me that to get the front row you need 4 people. We only had 2 so in the line we'd find 2 more people who wanted to try for the front. If we got up towards the top of the steps of the station and there were 8 or more people in line for the front (2 trains worth) I'd step aside and let a decent amount of folks past me to fill in the rest of the rows so that I could ask during the next line hold. This worked out well and 3 of our 5 rides were in the front. Like others have said though, the ride is spectacular in all rows and a very different experience front vs. back. I'm normally a back row lover but Fury in the front will absolutely blow your freaking mind. I liked the front right best and one of the trains, although forgive me that I forget which one, is absolutely glass smooth while the other by comparison probably needs a few wheels changed. Have fun and post once you've been! -

Got it re: spiced meatballs but not spicy. That's good to hear. I love animals so much that I can spend 2 full days at Disney's Animal Kingdom and still not be bored. That's a lot of animal watching haha so BGT sounds like a perfect fit with great coasters to boot! Thanks for the info on trainer talks and asking the keepers regarding feeding times. Can't wait to hear about your cruise - that'll make for a great TR, and CP is awesome any day of the week. -

Where are those far out markers? They pictured Snoopy pointing at paint on the ground but I have no idea where that's located, or if there are any other marks. -

I was out of town when you posted the last part of your trip and have been meaning to look for it. Lucky for me, you added a firework picture which brought the TR back towards the top of the forum! I've been to BGW a million times and after reading your TR and coasterbill's recent TR to BGT I really am itching to visit. Do you know if there's a schedule anywhere to find out what time(s) certain animals will be fed? The pretzel cart looks INCREDIBLE!!! I don't even like pretzels that much but would definitely try the meatball, cheese, and cinnamon sugar ones. Was the meatball spicy at all? Now that this is over with... when's your next trip and where are you going? Give us something to look forward to! -

Thanks guys for posting the fb and twitter teasers for those of us who don't check that sort of thing! Trying to keep my hopes low in case it isn't an RMC but these latest teasers are encouraging. Where is the paint pictured/mentioned located? I must have missed that talk and browsed back a couple pages but didn't see it mentioned. -

I meant to go check it out myself when I was there in July but forgot. Can you take some pictures of the inside and post them for those of us who would be interested in using pet check in the future? -

100% agree with the advice about just getting on TTD and then waiting for the front the next time. At the entrance to all queues and stations at parks I'm not familiar with, I ask the attendant about how long the ride wait is for suchandsuch row. They're always quite helpful and accurate. Some lines will appear quite long when they're really not, and vice versa. Have a blast and FunPix is awesome! -

Chiming in to say that the Millennium Force hype is real. There's nothing on the planet like it, even after a full day of front row rides on TTD and some of the best fun at the park you've ever had. Night time MF will simply blow. your. mind!I agree with what Samuel wrote about how every train of strangers comes back as friends. The excitement, hands in the air, cheering, and laughter is spectacular and no other ride experience comes close. Maverick is where it's at during the daytime but Millennium Force has my loyalty all night long. -

Looking to be a hot day for our first ever trip to Carowinds this Friday so I'm really excited to get some fast rides in. We may need to leave the park for an hour or so during the afternoon and go back to our hotel about 15 mins away. Will we be able to get back in the park using the parking ticket from earlier in the day or will we have to pay to park again? We don't have Cedar Fair passes this year. -

It sucks all around. Switching topics, what's the concert venue like at CP? Where is it located specifically? Is it assigned seats or more like random benches? Details and/or google earth shots appreciated. TIA!
