  1. There is already a POV online. This one is legal too: [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]It looks really fun and the theming is better than I expected!
  2. To keep Thunderbird lines moving as quickly as safely possible, we do direct riders to specific seats. (Please keep in mind that seats in rows 2 and 3 have a longer seat belt, so anyone needing a bit more room should ask to be seated there.) The front row is very popular on Thunderbird and if the queue isn't already full, we're happy to directs riders there upon request. We apologize if this is not what you experienced when you visited and promise to tell our ride operators you called them "lame." Thank you for your response as always! The line before the top of the stairs was maybe 15 minutes at most every time we went through and they kept it down to having every row with four people including the front. I found it strange and somewhat irritating that they were doing this but it was a petty complaint since the visit overall for the group was great! And yes, I hope I don't hurt anyone's feelings by calling them "lame" Edit: Here's an official response I got back from Guest Services the day after the visit when I asked them to allow row requests. Great customer service makes me a proud repeat pass holder
  3. Just in case anyone was wondering about the parks weather policy, all four of the coasters (yes even Thunderbird) have been running in pouring down rain today. As long as there is no lightning, the rides will run. Edit: also, the Strike-U-Up game was moved to Thanksgiving by Mayflower this past week. Another thing is every Thunderbird ride op working today did not allow front row requests. While they aren't being rude about it, "I have to make every row equal" is a lame excuse. I know that other people have ranted about this on other park threads but this is the first time it's happened at Holiday World. If the front queue is full or its near closing time, I understand. But, not every time of the day.
  4. I'm totally with you on this. I've visited enough Six Flags/Paramount megaparks to realize that quantity is not quality. Honestly the thought of going to a park with one class ride is more appealing to me that going to a park with two class rides and a dozen mediocre ones, because I'll feel obligated to ride all the bad ones I haven't been on and I know that a park with that many coasters is likely to be packed and with a fair percentage being unsavory patrons as well. My last big trip I visited CP, Kennywood, Knoebel's, and Hersheypark, and I far more enjoyed the small two parks with less rides (but a high standard of quality and a friendly atmosphere) than I did the ones with massive coasters left and right. I'd rather ride the Phoenix all day than ride 8 completely different coasters that don't match up. I also don't think attractions, even non-coaster dark rides, need to be expensive to be enjoyable. Some parks make low-budget attractions with character that's a selling point, while a chain park could spend ten times the money on something that's sterile and lifeless. To further clarify what I was saying in that quote (which you accidentally misquoted) is that I'm directing the mega thrillz label to more of Six Flags than Cedar Point. I love Cedar Point, as it's still my all time favorite park, because customer service is great, operations are superb, and 5 or 6 of the coasters are fantastic. At Holiday World, you, for the most part, get the great coaster collection with equally great operations and customer service to creste a welcoming atmosphere, whereas with Six Flags, it's clearly a corporate-based park focused on the rides alone which really aren't too special except for American Thunder (still a clone). I don't hate Six Flags St Louis as it stands pretty well by itself, but it ranks near the bottom of the parks I've been to.
  5. You're comparing apples and oranges. If you enjoy St Louis's "world-class" steel roller coasters, that's great. To me, I can think of 1 "world-class" coaster also at that park and one unique pretty terrible non-carnival "world-class" flat ride. Yes, Gobbler Getaway is not a "world-class," state-of-the-art dark ride, but it's not much cheaper-looking than, say, Boo Blasters. In my humble opinion, a friendly, home-y atmosphere of parks like Holiday World, Knoebels (haven't visited yet, just going off general opinion) or Silver Dollar City/Dollywood tops a Six-Flags "world-class" mega thrillz atmosphere any day of the week. "World-Class" Word count: 5 That's pretty clever as it's pretty hard to find a Thanksgiving carols CD these days
  6. ^ Great report. It sucks that the only days you could visit were on a weekend. As a season pass holder, I avoid Saturday's like the plague but I'll go on occasion for other people. I agree that Fast Passes are a nice luxury to have at bigger corporate parks, but I don't see it happening anytime soon at Holiday World (although you can play a plinko game to win one-time-use "Quick Access" passes for two). On media day for Thunderbird, there was the music from the announcement video in the queue with Lauren or Leah Koch narrating the story of the Thunderbird every 5-10 minutes. I know that it drove the ride attendants working the queue crazy that day and I haven't heard any of that since. Before launches, the ride op said "It's Launch Time!" over the mic, but now it's just "Thunderbird is clear for launch." Neither change was good or bad, just different.
  7. The Voyage has been experiencing an unusually large amount of downtime this season compared to years prior. No idea what's going there.
  8. I was about to post this is as a reply to the SFSTL thread, but it's more on topic here: Holiday World had outgrown their small family park status years ago back when the Voyage was announced. Sure the crowds are bigger now, but Holiday World has not been "small" really, although this is large in part due to the water park. Thunderbird may being drawing in a larger number of guests than last year, but it's been long time since a Saturday or Sunday in the summer were never been busy for this park. And, I only see it as a positive thing that numbers are getting bigger each year with more people visiting, meaning better attractions in the future!
  9. ^ Thanks, I'm hoping to not have to fork over $90 for a flash pass by going on Monday. I'm really excited to visit for the first time to ride Bizarro and Wicked Cyclone! Edit: I have heard lots of mixed reports on operations and customer service, so that part is making me slightly hesitant.
  10. Around 2-3 pm, lines for all of the roller coasters are pretty short since everyone is in the water park. Your longest lines are going to be in the water park for sure.
  11. I know I asked this question a few months ago, but i feel the need to ask again since I'm definitely going to Boston. How accessible is the park from Boston? I've seen the Peter Pan bus option with the ticket, but haven't heard if it's safe or reliable. Has anyone used this service before? And how are crowds around July 12 or 13? Busy enough to warrant a flash pass? Thanks!
  12. Pretty busy. Lines for Thundrbird have been ranging 45 min to an hour on Saturdays and sometimes Sunday's. Wildebeest and Mammoth still pull in the longest lines being close to 90 minutes. Raven and Legend will maybe be 20-30 while voyage can be 30-45. Legend and Voyage run great in the front seat this season, so you should give them a try. Your wife may want to avoid all the woodies and stick to Thunderbird.
  13. Those who have ridden a dive coaster (myself included) are more than likely excited about another being built. They are excellent rides.
  14. Um I was there in March when it was barely warm enough for the ride to be open, it was misting, and I was the only one on the train and the airtime was still insane. Didn't ride it in 2013/14 but from a first timers perspective, Outlaw Run was amazing even in terrible weather.
  15. McDonalds, Taco Bell/KFC, Subway, and probably more restaurants have coupons. I don't believe you can buy an actual ticket anywhere else except through the park website or at the park unless you stay at Santa's Lodge or Lake Rudolph
  16. So after getting back from a two day trip at CP, I am happy to say that I have never appreciated Mantis's layout more than I do now as Rougarou. It's forceful, fast, and has a couple of great rapid fire transitions. The transformation further enhanced Cedar Point's world-class lineup, even if it is just a new set of trains and some paint. Also, the 2016(?) site is huge in person. Adding in the supposed demolition of the Cedar Dorms and you have a massive plot of land. Honestly, it looks too big for a dive coaster. Maybe the park will leave a portion of the land leftover. I also hope the marina entrance gets an uplift like the beach entrance did with Windseeker.
  17. I'm not really sure what was wrong with it in the first place, but the track has not changed.
  18. Experienced my first Maverick roll back this morning. It was a little odd considering I've never seen the train not make it over the hill, let alone being on the ride when it happened. Obviously it wasn't as great as a Dragster rollback, but it felt more rare.
  19. Oh I'm sure that it's almost out of the question, but its also a matter of what isn't out of the question for flat rides. Huss and S&S have had lots of problems with their Giant Frisbees and Screamin Swings at Cedar Point and Kings Island. So what remaining manufacturers are there that make large park-scaled models? Zamperla comes to mind with their air race.
  20. MaXair and Skyhawk coexist at Cedar Point just fine. A screamin swing would be a great addition to the park. The experiences are nothing alike. Personally, I prefer Skyhawk over MaXair/Delirium anyway.
  21. The forecast says "Chance of a Thunderstorm" all week, not rain. That usually means sunny almost all day with one passing storm during the day, and probably lower crowd levels and shorter lines. Low winds too... looks like great weather to me. Yup, I'm visiting Thursday and Friday this week and am not one bit concerned about a stray thunderstorm. When I went to the park last year, a thunderstorm around 9 scared away TONS of people on a Sunday in July, meaning walkons for everything. Yes, even Maverick,TTD, Gatekeeper, etc. had a 2-3 train wait or less, and Millennium was only a10 minute wait all day. Hoping for the same thing again this year!
  22. They possibly could've kept it if it was more of a zero-g roll where it is elevated.
  23. ^ I thought smaller regional parks had an endless supply of money? Sarcasm aside, the park has been dropping loads of money these past two seasons and I suspect the TT refurbishment will be costly as well. 2017 and maybe 2018 will likely have no new large attractions with the additions being limited to offseason improvements.
  24. That's why it's absolutely important to hit this coaster first thing at 10 a.m.. Nine times out of ten, the coaster is open or testing by then. It just seems to get it's problems as the day progresses somehow.
  25. If they were to demolish TT and build something new, the ride would have a much lower height limit as the height limit has changed since TT was built. I'm pretty sure if they are going to build a new coaster on that site, it's going to be with the current structure. I would like something new to be built there as the view from Crittenden with that steel is really unattractive, but I don't think it's going to happen. I was unaware that this area of the park had lowered the height restriction over the years. It just seems like 80 feet is a pretty big (ironically) crutch for the ride. How about instead of doing two lifts, like Twisted Colossus, they demolish the second lift for a launch with low-to-the ground elements and short ejector airtime hills?
