Walt Disney World Epcot Discussion Thread

Just took my first trip ever to WDW & I'm glad I had the chance to ride this when I did (almost got passed). I'm excited to see how the Frozen ride will take over, as I feel it can be pretty epic since it is a huge deal. Singing along to Let It Go a little buzzed will be tons of fun. Malestrom was pretty dated, short, and when it ended my mom and I were like "WTF, oh okay." haha. Just glad I rode it to be able to say I rode it, as I remember being a little kid watching WDW videos on youtube being excited to ride one day. I totally wanted to skip the video room & I looked at my mom in total shock/gasp as she sat down. I followed, so I guess I got that checked off too... -
Fright Fest has always been pretty disappointing unfortunately. I love SFDK and go often but I don't make a special trip (East Bay) to Fright Fest, but if you haven't been yet it should be fun to see. Their haunted houses are mostly black walls and lack actors so don't expect much. Their scare zones were seriously lacking too, but Great Americas can as well. I didn't go to last years event though so hopefully someone can update you but I've been the previous years before that. I did check the site though and I'm sure what I told you will be accurate (the maze in the old 3D theater should be awesome though). You also have to pay a charge to get into the haunted houses, and the last time I went that experience was horrible. They only had 3 booths around the park and 1 person who had to collect money & put on your wristband. Took about 45 mins and the latest they stay opened at that time was either 10 or 11, was seriously glad I had time to ride Medusa as my only ride. This year they stay open till 12am Saturdays and Sundays so it should be fine. The years before we didn't have that problem also to be fair. I love Great America's haunt. It's like our mini Knott's Scary farm, though it has grown to be quite big event now. They've added a lot since they've opened & the offerings this year seem awesome. I do love SFDK during the Holidays though. They do a pretty great job at spreading Christmas all over the park. That's the reason why I feel fine missing Fright Fest now that I can get my nighttime Medusa rides in December. It's also extremely empty in the park during the Holidays which I love.

Exactly how I feel, & I'm hardly ever one to complain. As sad as it is to bash a park for so many things, this disappointment didn't come from no where. Many have seen the park at normal or great potential, it's sad that SFMM guests seem to have more heart for the park then what the management has shown. No matter how great a ride it, you can always tell when there is no passion in it & that's how SFMM seems to been operating. It seems like someone just shows to work one day and decides to open the park & call a few coworkers, halfhearted. I'm there a 100% for coasters which is why I don't mind or pay attention to plenty of the problems going on, but it's sad that SFMM made my exceptions of them so low. I can't blame others who seen this park once great simply asking SixFlags to put some attention to their OWN PARK. If you're just trying to skate by and collect money quickly, it looks bad on a company & respect is lost by it's customers. Not a coincidence SFMM is used as a joke many times, why take a company serious who doesn't want to take their own park seriously.

I believe the effects still work, they just have them on at certain times. Every time I've ridden X2, all the effects have been working. I only am usually able to visit the park during 3 periods out of the year, 2nd or 3rd week of August (summer for Norcal but not Socal <3), beginning of October, & December during Winter Break. Possibly they just have the effects running when the park is expected to be a little busy? Would make sense, as I hit those August & October dates for the popularity of summer and Halloween itself but the parks aren't crowded at all during those times. I could just be lucky too. I know they've worked for sure every visit though because my brother and I love sitting at the front of X2 due the thrill we get of slowly going down that drop headfirst into the colorful fog. Tatsu or X2 always end up being our last rides, so us riding it only closer to park closing could mean something too. There's many times we've hopped in right before closing and everything still worked. Would be awesome if they had everything working all the time though, but it's SFMM. Audio problems I've always had though, I miss listening to "It Had to be You" when starting the ride.

OJ only got 250,000? Wow, that's just amazing. I played with dry ice as a kid as the ice cream man would always give us some and we would get so excited over the little explosions. I feel like this was nothing more than an idiotic prank that caused a stir that still shouldn't have costed him a 1,000,000 bail in jail. It seems he's just an adult who unfortunately made a dumb decision. Was he was going to harm people with a flying soda bottle? No, he's just an idiot ruining things for other people. Ban ban ban!!!! Can't feel bad for the guy though, brought this whole thing on himself and the prank (if it was one which I believe) was unnecessary and serious at the time. But damn that bail price...

Exactly! The complaining is coming to a point where I'm wondering if some people feel we need security guards to walk us in too. Security tries their best I'm sure and if people want to bring something in the park, they will find a way despite securities best efforts. Instead of blaming, blaming, blaming, if more people looked at what they were doing and how their actions really affect others, we would not have as much problems. I'm not getting mad at security for doing their job and bypassing the idiot who caused these problems because it really is the individuals fault. Learn from it and make ourselves better because no matter what things will go on in the parks security can't completely control and blaming isn't going to do anything but make the security line longer. Glad nothing unfortunate happened to anyone at the parks those days.

Went yesterday and I'm glad Great America gave me the opportunity (as I can't afford a pass this year, but I'm still going to the awesome Halloween event) to give the new coaster a ride for free. Despite having operational problems, which we expected being new, the day was still very fun. There was not a person in my party who didn't love the ride. I agree with all those saying the ride doesn't slow down at all until the end. I just remember zipping through that thing lol. Wish I got more than 1 ride in but it left me wanting more, can't wait to come back. Thanks Great America and the TPR members who made this event aware, as I found out on here.

That's the problem. Most of the time NorCal parks pretty much close just as it gets dark, even in summer. I remember when Great America was advertising late hours a few years ago, which was great, but they cut the promotion short the second summer if I remember correctly. You pretty much only have Halloween season to try to ride at night. I agree though, a little bit of light and ventilation might make this more enjoyable. Depends how far they go in decking out this mine shaft. Either way I'm so happy my home park is finally getting what appears to be a good coaster! The new pictures look great.

Hell yeah!! YOLO!!! I personally think all the YOLO stuff is hilarious and I even have my family calling it Yolocoaster. If SFMM learned anything, the next half-coaster they build will have advertisements with less swag. I'm still very excited to ride though, it looks like a blast. Especially since they never showed the second half of the ride.

What was your first B&M Coaster?

Batman at SFMM. Almost thought it was Vortex at Great America but I forgot I was tricked on Revolution & Batman as a kid. -
Hurricane Sandy vs. Roller Coasters

LMAO at Rye's epic destruction. The park will never be the same. I've had memories with that exact fence. -
I agree. I'm happy that the park has been updating and improving their food at pretty much all of their restuarants. But I'm not going to pretend like the expensive meal I paid for is hardly at TGI 's level. I think that's why I'm so curious to try EoS because it seems like a place that will be a bit better than what's in the park. Kind of like how I was excited to eat at the new Paradise Gardens area for the same reasons. Something new, a bit better. Nothing worth 1.5 hours though lol. But I guess I'll see in four weeks

Yeah besides the water fountain and very few areas it didn't feel much like Halloween. They used to decorate the all of the little lawns right at the park's entrance really well back in the day I miss those decorations. Oh yay I'm excited for you. If it's like past years, walking by most of the park will keep you feeling that Holiday spirit. Then coasters. Then Holiday feelings again. Then more coasters that have some Christmas lights so you get both.

Holiday in the Park is my favorite time to go & I'll definitely agree with the others suggesting to go at that time. The park is nicely decorated for Christmas, lines have always been very minimal, & the park serves up hot drinks as well (dress really warm!!!!!) Coasters at dark in the cold air is of course the best part too! I just got my season pass 2 weeks ago as well & they are giving a complimentary ticket to those buying passes right now. You can use it any day before January 6th which is awesome as I'm excited to bring a friend to the park during the holidays. BTW, does anyone feel like SFDK's Fright Fest just seems to be getting worse each year. I remember when the park was Marine World the park was way more decorated & although they only had 1 scare zone & 2 haunted mazes for years, they were way more staffed and scary than all the mazes they have now. This year I thought it was crazy that SFDK thought it was okay to only open 3 boths for wristbands that usually only had 1 person at the register. We waited 40mins just for wristbands, which was more than any wait we had for the mazes. I also didn't see too much decorations & all of the houses were pretty bare (which I expected with the price so I still had fun). I could give excuses for it, but I went last year which was crowded as well so I expected the park to be better prepared for the crowds. Had to listen to so many people complain in line too which wasn't fun to listen too -_- I usually go to SFDK's Fright Fest every year just because I have a pass so why not. But I seriously think I'm going to have to reconsider next year & use the gas money for something else. The Slaughterhouse maze was nicely done though I'm glad for that addition!

Grizzly still has very good ridership, I don't see it leaving anytime soon. CGA has a lot of areas for new attractions (Invertigarden, Top Gun-Boomerang Bay field). True but from personal experience most of the time my friends and I go on that ride it's only because we might as well. There isn't much to do in the park. Though I agree there is no point in taking it out now. They have a lot of other areas.

The name Full Throttle and the YOLO stuff make me feel like SixFlags is going back to it's extreme route which I don't like. But they already said they are going back to that root. Guess I expected more with Terminator, DC Area, Green Lantern, & that new kids coaster being examples of nicely themed & fun rides these past few years. Now it just feels like they are going back to those days when they just plopped Deja Vu & Scream in the park. Fun coasters but with no real substance or charm. But it could be the advertisement and the name making me think it's going to be a simple theme & could be the opposite. I really wonder how the area around it will the themed as there is supposed to be a new 5-acre section with it. Still can't wait to ride this and I'm sure it will be an awesome ride. The elements they put into this coaster look like they are going to be a blast!
