  1. ^ What bothers me is the fact that the park doesn't post wait times in front of their attractions. So when debating whether to get in line for a ride, you have no clue whether they're just stacking the line or whether they're running one or two trains on the ride, thus not allowing you to accurately predict the wait time. Don't see why it's so hard for them to just put a digital screen in front of each ride that displays the wait time. I mean Disneyland and USH already have this. And don't even get me started on their app...
  2. Totally agree but I just wish that the park expanded their maintenance team beacuse it's a real bummer when Bateman is on one train ops when it's line is well over an hour long.
  3. I couldn't agree more, it kills the wait time and makes the line a complete clusterf*@k. I was really hoping SF would abandon VR on coasters after all the issues they had last year, but I was giving them too much credit. I'm in full agreement with both of you guys. I get guest surveys frequently, and I always bash the VR for dispatch times and empty rows. Sad to see it's coming back soon. I rode it Saturday 7 times with less than 2 minute dispatch times and no empty rows. Also as a 6 Flags stock holder this is costing a fortune for ride ops! Sometimes I feel as if Six Flags purposely intends to make their dispatch times as long as possible in order to sell more Flash Passes. Too often when the park is busy, I'll see them run one train ops on some of the most popular rides. While I do realize that due to SFMM being open year-round, they do have to preform annual maintenance on the trains. But honestly, couldn't they just purchase three to four trains per ride, so that way they can rotate which trains are recieving maintenance, thus ensuring that they are always running two trains?
  4. Glad to hear that Vipers staying but kinda bummed to hear that we won't be getting that dive coaster though. Honestly, what'll probabaly happen is that we'll end up getting a Skywarp for 2018 along with a Tatsu repaint. Bummer
  5. Saturday: Expect moderate crowds and expect most wait times to be around 20-30 mins on average. Sunday: Crowds will be pretty light and wait times should be around 10-20 mins. Try to hit X2 first as X2's wait tends to be the longest in the park. However, if you do not arrive at opening, skip X2 and head straight for Superman. The reason for this is because at park opening, everyone tends to try and head to X2 at the same time, thus if you're not in the park by 10:40, skip it and come back right before park closing as that's when X2's line starts to die down. After Superman try to hit either Full Throttle or TC. Other than that you should be good. Oh and just note that Tatsu, Apocolypse, and Riddlers Revenge will be closed. And if any rides are running one train ops expect wait times to be much higher than what I stated above.
  6. From what I've read, Tatsu will not be receiving a new paint job this year. The only thing happening to Tatsu right now is a rebuild of the trains, hence why they have a crane sitting next to Viper, and a new chain lift. I've heard this so many times, from so many posters, and I've seen no evidence to back it up nor does it make much sense to me. Is there ANY kind of solid evidence from anybody at the park to back it up that this ride is THAT much difficult to paint or are people just talking out of their asses because the ride appears "high up" in only a couple individual parts of the ride? I can't see it being any more complicated than X2, furthermore, my only fear of Tatsu getting a repaint is they will do away with the awesome 3 tone color scheme like they did with X and Scream. IMO Tatsu is NOT going to be "very" expensive to paint, probably as much as any other ride in the park. However I agree I hope they use the same quality of paint they used on X2 as it seems to have held up well. Back when Tatsu first opened, Discovery Channel ran a program called "Mega-builders" which was a documentary on the challenges of building Tatsu due to the terrain it sits on. So I can't imagine that it wouldn't be difficult to paint considering how difficult it was to build.
  7. Disneyland: 30 mins Knott's: 45 mins SFMM: ~ 1 hour and 45 mins
  8. SFMM: X2 Twisted Colossus Tatsu Batman YOLOcoaster Apocalypse Superman: Escape from Krypton Scream Goliath Green Lantern Riddlers Revenge Gold Rusher The New Revolution Viper Ninja Road Runner Express Speedy Gonzales Knotts: Ghostrider Xcelerator Silver Bullet Montezoomas Revenge Boomerang Sierra Sidewinder Pony Express Jaguar Coast rider
  9. I also believe that CP is better than MM. While I haven't been to CP since 2012, I still think it's a much better park. For one, CP has a far better coaster lineup than MM. I also like the direction that CP is headed in. All of their most recent coaster additions have been major projects all over $10 million, while all of MM's recent additions have been kiddie coasters and projects under $5 million. So yeah there's my opinion on the matter.
  10. Finally!!!! Not only will removing the mid-course break make Ghostrider insane again, but it will also decrease dispatch times. Greatest move Knotts has made since the calico renovation. However, I still don't see what the praise surrounding the boardwalk is. To me, the boardwalk is literally the cheapest move Knotts could have ever pulled. Don't get me wrong, the themeing is great, but the rides are awful. Literally Pacific scrambler, surfside gliders, and coast rider are the worst rides I could have ever imagined Knott's getting. These rides literally resemble the type of rides county carnivals setup in like 2 hours, especially surfside gliders and coast rider. At least it seems like they got the Ghostown renovation right.
  11. I'm glad Scary Farm decided to axe Trapped and bring live actors back to Calico. However, I'm hoping that Scary Farm seriously ups their game this year, because for the past 5 years, I've found HHN to be superior to Scary Farm. I mean last year, Knotts basically only had 8 mazes, excluding "Trapped" since it's an upcharge, and excluding the "Witch's Keep" since there were no live actors present and since it was probably the worst maze of all time. Now, I would be ok with them only having 8 mazes if they were QUALITY mazes, but most of them weren't. My hope is that Scary Farm will return to its original glory days and either make quality mazes like Insidious, Halloween, and The Walking dead at HHN, or bring back the usual 13 mazes. Also, I hope Knotts begins to incorporate today's technology into their mazes. I mean the technology in Insidious is literally stunning. Murdy really nailed it with the projections that make you transfer from our world into the further. Lets hope Scary Farm can do the same.
  12. Personally, I don't get what all the hate for HHN is about? In my opinion, I feel that Scary Farm has been on a downward spiral for the last 5 years, while HHN has been on the rise. Just look at Scary Farm's maze lineup... There are only 11 mazes this year down from 13 a few years ago, "Carnevil" is so bright with all of the stringed lights above your head that it's not even a legitimate scare zone, the costumes at Scary Farm are so low budget when compared to HHN, Scary Farm doesn't even theme Timber Mountain Log ride anymore, and Scary Farm seems to only cater to pre- teenagers these days. And I'm not the only one who believes this as last year HHN sold out of tickets about 65% of the nights, while Knotts has to introduce a "Scary Farm season pass" (which is cheaper than a one night ticket to HHN) just so they can fill the gates. I mean I remember about 10 years ago when Scary Farm tickets used to constantly sell out, but now they can't even reach capacity even WITH a bunch of scary farm season pass holders going every night.
  13. Great announcement! Hopefully they play their cards correct with the new zombie ops in Camp Snoopy because this has major potential! I'm still a bit fearful of how the season pass for Haunt will impact the already overcrowded event?
  14. It looks like Knotts has taken a few steps back in the Halloween industry, while USH has taken a few steps forward! Ive been attending Haunt for 12 years now, and I have to say that this event is unfortunately taken a turn for the worse. I usually visit both Knotts and USH during Halloween, but if they cut back on the Camp Snoopy scare zone, than they've got one less attendee at their park this Halloween.
  15. They know how to properly budget and market their park. They're not Six Flags. They're not chasing down the unaccompanied minors market, they're going for the families that are already in the Anaheim / Buena Park area for Disney. If you were a parent on vacation with your family at Disneyland and saw Knott's offering a family style park for $50 (before any discounts you will easily find) that's two miles away, wouldn't you rather go there for a day than drive through the hellish LA traffic to Valencia to a park that is inundated with teenagers and costs more? Let's not even get into all of the other negatives SFMM offers (we'd be here all damn day), just based on that alone, Knott's is preferable. They don't need huge thrill rides to bring in the guests. They were started as a family park, they continue to be a family park. And I love the place. I wouldn't consider Knotts as a family park since Knotts is mostly comprised of teenagers too. I used to take my family to Knotts every few months, and I have to say that while standing in line for rides such as Ghostrider, Xcelerator, Timber Mountain Log Ride, etc... I would hear so much profanity from the teenagers that I have decided to stop taking my family there entirely and start taking my family to Disneyland. Plus Knotts has a very limited selection of children rides when compared to Disneyland. I have also found that Knotts employees are not as friendly of those at Disney.
  16. I still don't see why everyone is praising the direction that Knott's is heading in. I mean sure the new attractions/refurbishments they are completing are better than they were in the mid-2000's, but whenever I visit the park it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth because all of the rides feel like Knott's just slapped down the rides and didn't pay any attention to the theme or detail at all. I mean look at the new boardwalk, it looks pretty lame because it looks like Knott's just slapped some wood over a pond and built a few flat rides. Overall Knott's will probably start to feel the pain when their attendance drops in the future with the new Harry Potter addition to USH.
  17. Since your a visitor to SoCal, I would have to recommend these parks in order: 1.) Disneyland 2.) Disney California Adventure 3.) Six Flags Magic Mountain 4.) Universal Studios Hollywood 5.) Knott's Berry Farm The reason why I chose Disneyland as first is because the overall experience of Disneyland is truly outstanding. The staff at Disneyland is friendly, the park creates a magical atmosphere, there are many tremendous shows, there are a variety of rides that range from family to young adults, the park is open until midnight on the weekends, great food within the park, and the park really makes you feel special. Also, the hotels that surround Disneyland are absolutely stunning like the Grand Californian and the Paradise Pier Hotel. The atmosphere outside of Disneyland is also stunning because after you want to take a break at the park, you can stroll out of the gates to Downtown Disney, where you can eat, shop, and play at amazing restaurants. Overall, I know that Disneyland is a bit pricier than the other theme parks, but trust me the money is well worth it. However, I know that many on this thread are huge "Knotts" fans, but I would highly NOT recommend Knotts as a park to visit for tourists because Knotts does NOT WOW anyone with an overall experience. Knotts is great if you are a local, but the only thing Knotts is good for is a few thrilling coasters, but other than that the park is very tiny and you will probably run out of things to do within the first 5-6 hours. Plus the area outside of Knott's gate is truly ugly because there are no hotels (other than the Knotts Berry farm Hotel) and there are no shops around. Once outside the gates of Knott's, you will feel like you are in any other suburban city, whereas outside of Disney you will feel like your at a resort. Also, most of the food at Knott's isn't descent except for Johnny Rockets. Universal is good because they have pretty good customer satisfaction and the studio tour is unique, but the park does only have a few attractions, which can lead you to become bored in a few hours. Six Flags is good too, because their coasters are some of the best in the country, but the overall experience at Six Flags is dampered by the unfriendly staff and the HORRIBLE food. Six Flags, like Knott's, also mainly caters to the locals and just gives rides, opposed to a great overall experience. All in all, Disneyland and Disney California Adventure are the ways to go and since you will be in SoCal for two days, I would recommend purchasing a two-day park hopper ticket because both parks will easily keep you entertained for more than two days, whereas with the rest of the parks, you will find yourself bored quite quickly. -Hope this helps.
  18. I'm planning a trip to the scary farm next Thursday and I was wondering if I would need a fright lane if I wanted to hit around 10 mazes in 4 hours?
  19. I'm planning to go to Knott's Scary Farm on either Thursday or Sunday, I'm wondering which day would most likely have smaller crowds? Thank you.
  20. I havent been to the park in about 3 years and was wondering if a deluxe annual passport is worth the money?
  21. Planning on heading up this Friday. Hopefully the longest line ill have to wait in will be 30 minutes. Over the weekend I had a major question on how much the park pays for insurance?
  22. With only 2 cables attached will the cable wear out quicker? Approximately how long does a cable last on a drop tower?
