The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread
MrSum1_55 replied to Wes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I agree that making SB a flying coaster seems to be a good idea. Although G's on the chest may be a problem, Stingray does have an outside loop. Still, I doubt it would happen. But, pretty much all of the post golden age inverts do seem to give more of the flying coaster vibe anyway. -
The tunnel cannot qualify as a block. The definition of a block is that it can safely stop the train in an area with no risk of collision. If two trains are dispatched 30 seconds apart, and one train fails to clear the top hat, they will collide. This is why the only real blocks are in the station/final brake area, and that three train operation would not have a considerable effect on capacity.

Frankly, yes. The #1 thing most members on these forums like about roller coasters is forces. Sure, you can have a 200 foot ride, but if it has gently sloping hills like a jet coaster, it probably will not rank very high. In theory, inversions are meant to provide positive G's, while airtime hills are meant to provide negative G's. Unfortunately, many newer B&M's seem to be being built with the entire purpose being just to have inversions, not to provide many forces. Going upside down is 'fun'. But, forces are what ultimately cause rides to place so high, as opposed to just having cool elements. No one believes Silver Bullet is 'bad', but there are more forces that can be found on coasters such as California Screamin.

This makes plenty of sense to me, for a few reasons: 1) This system is actually a better deal than SFMM's X2 system. That is $15 per person per ride. I would much rather be able to add on two attractions with unlimited rides for $20. 2) This system simply does not work well on low capacity rides. If they do this, then maybe Xcelerator could be added to Fast Lane again. From observation, I could tell Knott's had several problems getting Fast Lane to work on this ride, mainly over the local Winter Break. Since Xcelerator has no third ramp leading to the station, the pass would have to be treated as an exit pass. This did not work well for either the Fast Lane users or the guests, since people in the two hour line were being cut off from riding in the station, while the system was a loss for Fast Lane users as well because the limited throughput of the exit pass system allowed the Fast Lane wait to get up to one hour. (Normal wait was 2 hours) This is an example of when a system like Fast Lane Plus would be very useful.

Yeah, I am quite positive Ghostrider could use, at the very least, topper track. If they just do a simple retrack and add new trains, I could completely see them pulling a Gwazi. It would be better for a while, but in the long run, it needs at least topper track, and probably IBox. Also, I do not understand the mentality of people on this forum who are against completely IBoxing it. While it may not NEED IBox as much as I-Rat and NTAG did, why would anyone be against making an awesome ride more awesome? Is there a limit to how awesome a layout can be? (The answer is probably 'yes', because this is California)

New B&M trains on Steel Dragon
MrSum1_55 replied to Trevor's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^That is correct. I was originally referring to Wild Thing, Steel Force, and Mamba. Phantom's Revenge was started by Arrow, but the reprofiling was done by Morgan. (Although the trains do still seem to resemble Arrow trains more than Morgan ones. They might be all new, but it seems like they kept them closer to an Arrow design). Magnum, though I did not address it as not being a Morgan, has a very similar layout to many Morgan hypers, and, as a result, it seems like an Arrow could receive B&M trains if that is what the park really wanted. -
New B&M trains on Steel Dragon
MrSum1_55 replied to Trevor's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
B&M trains are the best trains on the market, and I think every hyper coaster should have them, even Intamin hypers. (Although Intamin does make better layouts, B&M makes superior trains) I would love to see other Morgan coasters, such as the Cedar Fair Morgan trio, receive these trains. They have potential to be very solid rides, but the coffin trains do hinder the experience. Although I do like Phantom's Revenge's trains, just about anything would be an improvement over Magnum's trains. However, some of the annoying CP fanboys would probably kick and scream about ruining a classic to make it a good ride. -
I actually really like Premier as well, as much as I dislike this particular design. Sky Rocket, in particular, I found to be as good, if not superior, to most B&M and Intamin loopers. S:UF is very good as well. Their recent installations are very smooth, have excellent restraints, and are overall just very 'fun'. As disappointing as the overall layout turned out to be, it will most certainly be very smooth and fun, with excellent restraints. Now, I would really love to see Premier build a "real" multi launcher (not one with an average of 15 seconds between each launch), to see how it would stack up against Mack, Zierer, and Intamin installations. I think they could make a very excellent product, but sadly, the client request did not allow for their full potential.

Orlando or Cedar Point
MrSum1_55 replied to gforce1994's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Orlando. But, it depends on where you are flying from, how much time you have, etc. If you have a week, and plenty to spend, go to Orlando. No questions. But, if you can get to CP for a much cheaper price, and only have a couple days to spare, CP may be your option. -
Knott's operations are not what anyone would call good. However, Knott's has generally fewer crowds on its larger coasters, so the effect of consistently rehabbing trains it not quite as noticeable. Also, Knott's is able to redeem itself in other areas. At least half the park is well themed and kept up, and they have more shows, actual dark rides, and the worst-looking area in the park is getting a major expansion. What does SFMM have to redeem itself? Nothing but coasters.

If they build it so it can duel, they will do one of two things: a) Never run both sides b) Run both sides, but run only one train on each side most of the year Also, the reason the mobius idea is not the best idea is because you would need at least 3-4 trains to get a descent capacity on that. And, we are talking about a park that can barely fund two train operations.

Are We A Dying Breed?
MrSum1_55 replied to nhman93's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The point is that, no matter how much the technology advances, roller coasters are still going to be popular. Although kids have plenty of other forms of entertainment, this market is the type of market that cannot be filled in any other way. Roller coasters will always be popular for the same reason skiing/snowboarding will always be popular. They are a kind of fun that cannot be substituted by any other means.
