  1. ^In Tomorrowland theres a stand alone burger joint where there's a stage and they used to do the light saber competitions. Very good burgers with fresh produce, and nice hot fries. Isn't that why they charge $12 for a burger combo with fries? Then charge $13 for a souvenir drink? I think it's a no brainer: while preparation and storage requires an initial investment, food can be a huge profit in the park especially if you charge an absorbinant amount of money and make quality food in the park so MORE people buy it. $9 funnel cakes cost less than $1 to make, so for each cake you sell you've paid an hour of employee wages. Food can be a big part of any theme park experience, just check out TPR reviews or remember how your favorite theme park food makes your mouth water. I have had EXCELLENT food at USH or Disneyland--places I'm likely to go to again when I visit the park! Or check out Suzettes at the end of the day at Magic Mountain--food is a big deal and can bring people into the park! There's no reason Six Flags shouldn't be doing this around the rest of the park with the rest of their food. But they won't. Nobody that works there cares. Costs too much, and nobody, including the employees that serve the food at Magic Mountain, are really concerned about serving high quality food. They have minimum wage jobs and either want to leave or have their break. Thus lies the great Six Flags conundrum.
  2. ^Please no. That only means more Dodger or Laker fans than we need at SFMM. Thanks.
  3. I wonder if Cold Stone will be gone as well? I also wonder if the quality of food and options are going to take a turn for the worst. I remember before all these food options came to the park, the quality at the park was barely tolerable. Johnny Rockets and Papa Johns made it tolerable, but I wonder since they're going away now if we'll be back to square 1.
  4. Is the park losing ALL Thomas, Wiggles, Tony Hawk and branded names (Terminator, Panda Express, Johnny Rockets, Papa Johns) in the park except for the WB/DC brand? Is that all they have to hold on to? What the heck is going on here? While they're busy removing all the theming, it'd be nice if they went ahead and removed all the terribly ugly and faded advertisement cardboard cutouts and signs as well. Corn Nuts, hair gel, Snickers, Starburst---enough of that garbage. It looks so tacky!
  5. I think I understand the reasoning behind putting those fiberglass "windows" on the sides of the train. Look at the clearance of the supports in some of those 90 degree turn photos. It looks like people would just be able to reach their hands out and grab them! While I am intrigued by much of this ride including its big drop and turns, I am starting to worry that the tight maneuvers and quick elements may become a problem for this ride in the long run. However, I am will to keep it to myself until the ride is open and actually having problems. Until then, best of luck to the guys at SFoT and I am looking forward to riding this puppy ASAP! It looks AMAZING!
  6. ^There's more than 5 girls on here, and more than 5 of them are pretty good looking From my (guy) experience I have had great luck with rather small crowds on Sundays. I show up about 2pm, but if you want to show up early and want to skip X I'd start towards Viper and get a quick ride on that. Follow the path up past Revy (had a great ride last time I rode when it was freezing) to Tatsu and see how that line is. Deja Vu is closed, but Terminators line has been 2-3 train waits on Sunday for me. Riddler has a single rider line, but with 1 train can still be walk on or 10 minutes. Batman, Colossus and Scream, then see how the line for Goliath is. If your up for going to Ninja take the stair path right after you check out Tatsu. Come back the same way you came if you want to hit up Terminator (If you haven't been on it and you want a good wood ride I'd suggest hitting it up). If you go down the steep hill from Ninja you'll have to back track to get on Termie. No need for Flashpass. Good luck!
  7. That one Riddler train being sent to Six Flags Great Adventure for Green Lantern is going to be a disaster for the Magic Mountain unless they eventually purchase a new one. As soon as one train goes down or is in rehab you have 1 train operation, and with a long cycle time and slow dispatches, the ride is always going to have a long line. Yes, I strongly suggest using the single rider line. If there are high winds X2 can valley, so a shutdown is understandable. I don't wait an hour for Goliath anymore, I just don't think its worth it. It is out of character for Scream to have such a long line. But as SharkTums said low staffing on a holiday, nonetheless one like Thanksgiving, will lead to a tough visit at the park. Sometimes there are good days, sometimes there are bad. I've been there on bad days and it can be rather miserable. Better luck next time!
  8. Went to the park today and it was empty. Got some shots of the new Superman paint job because I thought there'd be a few on here that would be interested. Got 6 rides in 2 hours, a chilly but great day at the park! From Riddlers Revenge: Closer shot: All photos taken were with permission from ride operators. From Gotham From behind Gotta say the paint really looks great! I hope the sign gets lit up, and it looks in the renderings like it may be moved to the front? That would be cool!
  9. Yeah, lets tell them to increase pass prices so we can pay more for the same thing! I'm sorry, I love this line that announces teenagers don't spend money in the park. Which teenagers are you talking about? Teenagers spend money, their parents give it to them or they have jobs. Have you seen the groups of teenagers walking around in $200-$250 jeans? Not only that, they've had to pay $15 a car to park. Many of them are walking around with $13 Souviner Bottles in each of their hands, they buy $20 souvenir photos and $15 burger combos, $10 funnel cakes, and play numerous games in the price range of $5 to $10. What family walking around with 7 years olds is going to spend $10 on a 1 minute basketball game? If the park ended up increasing Pass and Ticket Prices I think there would be a substantial decrease in the attendance. Six Flags knows this, they have a marketing and research department. There is not enough in terms of substance at their parks to charge Disney-like prices for tickets and passes.
  10. ^Me too, except there we were chastised for not being "coaster experts"!
  11. ^The car hit those brakes (or got close very close to hitting them) back in 1996 when the ride was open to season pass holders. This was when the ride was actually hitting 100+ MPH. Shortly after because of the frequent downtime at the 100MPH speed, the ride was slowed to decrease the amount of break downs, and in 1997 the ride was lucky to see speeds in excess of 85MPH. In fact, the way the ride was run before it closed, I believe Goliath was the fastest ride in the park, often going over the 85 MPH mark. Here's a photo of them both racing and getting close to the brakes. The photo under it shows where the red paint stops. The brakes at the top are not conventional style "grab" brakes, they're only magnets. If the train were to hit the brakes (magnets) at the top, it would just slow the car so it doesn't hit the top of the tower and it would just coast back down the tower normally. You probably wouldn't even be aware of it if you were riding. However, having such a large set of them is rather redundant, the car will probably never get up that high unless a major overhaul improves the launch. If you've ever been on a ride shutdown during a Superman The Escape cycle the magnets that launch you shut off and you find yourself behind the station--you're quickly braked to a hault. Those magnetic brakes back there are the same as the ones on the top of the tower.
  12. I wonder if they're using the high quality paint they used on X2 that's supposed to last a lot longer than say the paint on Tatsu or Scream? X2 still looks really good and fresh and it's been painted for 2 years now!
  13. Hmmm...I kinda wish they woulda brought the red lower down the tower more because that's gonna be a lot of blue! Looks really good, but I think it's kinda awkward how the paint just randomly stops from red and goes to blue!
  14. I really hope that system works - shooting in between the bolt assemblies at 60+mph leaves no room for error - not even a micrometer. Exactly. I am a bit leery about this but I'm sure it's been tested and we'll just have to accept that they know what they're doing! I wouldn't put MY name on the line with that kind of design, but lets hope it works out as planned! Very odd to say the least!
  15. ^Actually, regarding the prototype 4D at Magic Mountain: Arrow and SF signed an agreement to have the ride installed and running by a due date, at an agreed cost. That date was not met (due to technical problems that arose due to Arrows design), the budget was exceeded (due to costs improving/correcting the technical problems), and therefore the responsibility of missing the date and paying the extra costs fall on the manufacturer, Arrow. Bottom line: If you can't hold up your end of the contract, don't make one! As for the GIB's, I love everything about them! They do have a significant amount of upkeep, but I'd assume that's because of its design, heavy trains, and extreme forces. But it's great to see them being installed, and any chance I get to ride Magic Mountain's I take it! Nothing like facing the ground at 150 feet and plummeting straight down, those butterflies are unmatched!
  16. ^I will bet anyone $1000+ that nothing will happen in 2012. My evidence? Back to the Future part 2. I don't think the arms of the swings are mechanically controlled, I'm pretty sure they're just on a pivot. So the seats will have the ability to swing side to side, but probably not as much as an original StarFlyer where the seats are held on by a chain. In the Windseeker Model, the seats are held on by a metal arm, eliminating any possibility of "sway" in the seats, but not eliminating the ability to swing closer and further from the tower. Don't take my word for it though, I could be wrong.
  17. LOL! Some people are NEVER satisfied. Agreed! Aww man! I think I know what that means, and I wish it was an Intamin instead!
  18. Who knows, but if it's there I'm sure we'll see a picture of it here not too long after!
  19. I believe Deejays Vu is closed because it doesn't have a train on the track, not cause of winds. Good thing I didn't go today, I'm not willing to drive out unless I know I can get a ride on X2, otherwise, the trip just don't feel right to me. Will probably go Sunday instead, I'm guessing the crowds will be low.
  20. Yeah...if only LEDs were more reliable...maybe its me, but almost every single traffic signal I go to that has LEDs, at least one of the bulbs has a couple of the LED's are out--no matter how new the bulbs are. Same with signs on the streets, or with lights on cars, inevitably there's always a reliability issue and it makes everything look awkward. If used on the Superman sign I'd guess they'd have the same issue not before too long, and it'd be half lit. Maybe LED technology will get better in the future.
  21. Believe it or not that Superman logo on the back of the tower at the top of the ride used to light up, and you could see it on the freeway if you were coming south down the 5. I think the lights been off for over ten years. It'd be spectacular if they could get it up and lit again, seeing as how the rides going through a rehab and all, as it was a sight to see back then and it'd be cool to see now. Always wanted one in my room
  22. ^Paint left over from the X2 transformation? Lookin' good!
  23. Hate to be a negative Nancy but that is sad. Ridiculously low, almost to the point where it's not worth riding (if some of my friends saw that, then saw the wait was more than an hour, they wouldn't even consider waiting in line). It almost looks more like a kids coaster than a world class thrill ride. I really hope MM finds some way to make Superman go higher, otherwise I don't see how the popularity will increase for the long run after opening.
  24. Awesome. I love turtles! However, I find it funny how every Seaworld park has an awesome B&M (one has 2) and San Diego still has yet to get a single one. Talk about giving it the cold shoulder, guess it'll have to wait another year!
