  1. I don't think the labor cost in Mexico would affect the decision of what coaster to buy, since they already stated that they will hire mechanics and engineers from Disney World to set up the coaster. Also, the governor said "mas grande", which can translate to tallest or biggest, so it could be a short but long coaster for example. Anyway, if you take a look at Mexico's tallest coasters, the 10th place is only 16 meter high, so with an investment of US$1.2 million I'm sure they can place a coaster on the top 10.
  2. To be honest, it could go either way right now. The park doesn't have the money to build it, but I don't know if they will be willing to let it go and sell it to another park.
  3. Absolutely nothing. Construction site abandoned, coaster track in a storage area next to the parking lot.
  4. The new coaster was put on hold for another year when the accident on the drop tower happened, not because they ran out of money. The owner of the park said he wants to re-start the construction in the first half of 2013. That's not what happened. With the accident the attendance droped considerably, so they had to postpone everything. The Justice League area was postponed to December and opened partially incomplete. Since last year the park is facing an attendance of around 2000 people a day. A lot of the rides are closed due to lack of parts to keep them running. The park can't sell or replace those rides, since they were all used as a guaranty for the loan the park got from the National Bank. Most rides at the park are operating in shor hours due to lack of operators. If that doesn't mean "run out of money" to you, I don't know what does. So of course the manager (not the owner) will say to the press that it was all intended and that they are gonna re-start the construction soon.
  5. Actually if you look at the picture carefully, you will see that it doesn't look like lapbars, but just the regular new Intamin train that is being used at Green Lantern (SFMM). I was told that the OTSR part will be attached to this train later, as you can see on the picture below. Green Lantern at SFMM, picture by Justin Garvanovic
  6. Too bad that this coaster might never be built at Hopi Hari, since they don't have money to do it.
  7. Yes, there is: "Theme Park Review 17 minutes ago TPR Forum Posting Contest! The rules are simple. Make a post to the TPR Forum. Copy the link to your post below, and we will pick 5 people to win Bags-O-Crap! GO!"
  8. I don't have anything to add to this thread either, but I really wanna win a bag-o-crap, so here's my post... And happy new year everyone!
  9. I think TPR forum should have a "like" button or some other way to show appreciation for someone else's post (in this case, Robb's posts). Then we could see how many "likes" the complaint post would get and how many "likes" Robb's responses would get and have some fun
  10. I'm gonna have to say Steel Eel. It's not the most amazing coaster, or the most intense coaster, but for sure is one of the most enjoyable coasters I've ever ridden. I rode it like 7 or 8 times in a row, by myself, in a foreign country and still had an amazing time riding it!
  11. Seriously, it almost seems like I'm making this up! Last wednesday a couple claimed that their lap bar at Montezum opened (or got loose somehow) during the lift hill. They started to scream and their friends, sitting in front of them, turned around and tried to hold the lap bar down as much as he could during the ride. The coulple was only restrained by the spare lap bar. When the train arrived at the station, the girls mouth was bleeding and the guy had a bruise on his wrist due to the effort both did trying to stay in place during the course. The camera even took a picture of them (see the link). Hopi Hari says they didn't find anything wrong with the coaster. g1.globo.com/sp/campinas-regiao/noticia/2012/12/policia-investiga-suspeita-de-falha-em-trava-de-montanha-russa-do-hopi-hari.html
  12. The Justice League area that was under construction (actually it was under rethemeing) opened last friday. The whole area looks great for a brazilian park, and reminds me a lot of Six Flags. The shuttle loop looks pretty cool with the new Superman theme: And so does the powered coaster: There are a lot of great pictures in this blog: Hopi Mundo FĂŁ And of course, they've installed new brazilian baths haha
  13. I wanna say it is the same train with an awesome paint job... But... Rumor has it that this "new train" is actually Laser's (yup, dorney's Laser) old train. This super crazy rumor that has been going around coaster foruns in Brazil says Katapul's old train wasn't suitable for use anymore so Hopi Hari exchanged it (??????) with some other park that had that old train in storage. That's the problem with brazilian facts, people try to make everything here looks more interesting that what really is... A few days ago, Hopi Hari posted on it's Facebook page that Montezun's (the wooden coaster) drop was 174 feet high. That means that Montezun's drop and El Toro's drop are pretty much the same height (and everybody knows this is bulls**t). I still think Katapul has it's old trains with just an awesome paint job
  14. Dear Lord, I'm in heaven now! This will make my trips much easier! Thanks a lot!
  15. Let's just say that toilet paper is not a big hit in Brazil!
  16. We do have Kilimanjaro, world's tallest water slide (it stands 50m high) at Aldeia das Aguas Resort, Rio de Janeiro There's also a pretty cool zipline at Unipraias (Balneario Camboriu, Santa Catarina). It's not very high (240m) but the view is amazing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjCu3E2y4cc You can fly over the beaches here in Rio de Janeiro in an ultralight plane (the one the looks like a bike with wings). In Vespasiano Correa, Rio Grande do Sul, you can do a 136m high rapel at an abandoned bridge called V13
  17. Sorry to disappoint you Robb, but there's nothing here in Brazil. There are no bungee jumps here. There are a few rafting rivers, some zip lines, but nothing "OMFG I'm gonna die" kind of stuff.
  18. Pleasant ones: Fluch Von Novgorod: What an AMAZING eurofighter. It launches, it drops, it's well themed, and there's a nice surprise at the end. I had no idea of what to expect, since barely no one talks about it, but it was awesome and made my top 10 with honors! Blue Fire: When I visited Europa Park, I was looking forward to riding Wodam and Silver Star, and Blue Fire ended up being the most awesome coaster at Europa Park and it's also on my top 10! Mystery Castle: I'm not very found of Intamin Drop Towers, but OH MY GOD, Mystery Castle is probably the best drop tower in the world! Winjas (fear): Was expecting another standart spinning coaster. but Winjas Fear blew me away Blue Streak: What an awesome old woodie! I'm so glad I got to ride it. It had tons of airtime and it wasn't rough at all! Steel Eel: I couldn't stop ridding. I must have ridden it like 10 times in a row. Another amazing coaster that for some reason is not very popular Unpleasant ones: Millenium Force: I'm still trying to understand why do people like it so much. It's short and you can barely feel any airtime in it. I'd rather ride Magnum a thousand times! Expedition GeForce: I was expecting the best ride of my life and it was only bleh. Didn't even make my top 10. Wodam and Colossus: Maybe I wasn't lucky on my trip to Europe, maybe it was the cold weather, but I was expecting 2 of the most awesome woodies in the world and they were less fun than Cannonball! Skycoasters and Slingshots in general: They look insane, but they don't feel insane. I've ridden the tallest slingshot and the tallest skycoaster, and they were less thrilling than a booster ride.
  19. Rumor has it that Olympia Looping's first prototype was too intense, reaching up to 6Gs. Stengel then adjusted the looping radiuses a little bit so now passengers feel only 5.2Gs
  20. I don't think bending people is something allowed in Brazil
  21. That's why I hate brazilians, even though I am brazilian as well! There are like 20390249 posts on the Brazilian Coaster Club forum about this trip report, saying the most RIDICULOUS stuff! Here's the highlights! "Wow, the guy said only bad things about Sao Paulo. At least he said some nice things about Hopi Hari" "He has family in brazil and is THAT ignorant about our culture? The only thing missing on that trip report is he saying he expected to see monkeys wandering around on the streets. he liked the park, though " "Did I get lost in translation, or that guy said that Montezum is not impressive?" "He said Hopi Hari is better than other parks he visited in Latin America" "Saying Montezum is not impressive is absurd!!!!!" "the worst part was comparing Vurang to a Wacky Worm!" "I agree that Vurang is slow, but I was expeting a more inteligent analysis of the ride, since the guy is from TPR. Vurang is a family coaster, if he wants something that spins a lot, he should have riden Giralata!" "The guy is just a TPR member like me or a lot o of other Brazilians" "I don't get why his opinion is so important, for me he's just another fan, like me or anyone else" "I hope he comes back in 2013" STUPID, STUPID BRAZILIANS!!!!
  22. When Joey asked me if I was goint to meet him at Hopi Hari, my first words were "Hell no!". Even though Hopi Hari is indeed the best park in Brazil, it still annoys the hell out of me. Even for me, a native portuguese speaker, it's hard to find all the info you need on their website. Hopi Hari's native language, "HopĂȘs" is something so, so stupid that makes me laugh every time I see a underpayed attendant try to smile and say something like "thank you" in that fake language. It's just pathetic. Hopi Hari is not very clean, and it does not have awesome rides, but for the average Brazilian that has never traveled abroad, it's great. What makes me not wanting to come back to Hopi Hari is the people. If this park was in Europe or USA, it would be a very nice park with polite people, but in Brazil it is chaotic! Screaming teenagers everywhere jumping inside the fountains and throwing stuff at each other. It's not hard to find on the internet stuff like this happening at Hopi Hari: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ponUFfcFKpU Evolution is a VERY, VERY popular ride in South America, don't ask me why! You can find it in almost every traveling park in Brazil.
  23. El Toro @ SFGA Blue Fire @Europa Park Magnum XL @ Cedar Point Steel Eel @Sea World San Antonio Fluch Von Novgorod @Hansa Park The Voyage @Holiday World Intimidator @Carowinds Kingda Ka @SFGA Black Mamba @Phantasialand Phantom's Revenge @Kennywood
  24. Guys, you won't believe this, but people from the Brazilian Coaster Club (from which I'm not a member, please) posted a thread on their facebook page about what you, americans, were saying about the hurricane and the coasters that have been destroyed! Here's the highlights: > They are being very obnoxious on this topic about Sandy's devastation > They are ridiculous. They just simply don't value what they have, I'll give everything to have one of those coasters. Those coasters are fantastic and way better than the ones we have here. I think americans are very snobbish, I find it extremely ridiculous of them to say such things. I wonder if Kingda Ka was destroyed if they would say the same thing. > I think they would say the same, they used to like Chiller more than Kingda Ka, since kingda ka seems so boring. They live in an Amusement Park paradise in USA, they don't suffer everything other countries suffer just to keep one single park open. > They should value what they have, they are ridiculous, When they begin to loose their best coasters, they will see! They've already lost Chiller, and now they miss it! I wonder what they are gonna do when they loose Kingda Ka to another park. I don't think Kingda Ka is boring, it just has a simples layout, but there's nothing like it in the world. Their attitude is ridiculous. Please, Sandy, come to Brazil and make those people ride Star Jet underwater!
  25. By the time Hopi Hari announced the 10 inversion rollercoaster (october, 2011), they said it would be a "new layout", the "2012 layout" as they would call it. The park said some weird stuff, like "it will have a mega lite direct drop instead of a drop into a turn". They also said that the lift hill system is going to be a "cable lift", like Expedition GeForce, which would increase the lift hill speed to something around 20km/h. They also mentioned that the lift hill speed would feel like a launch (!?!?!?!). They also said that the trains would use a new restraint system (which made people in Brazil believe it would be lapbar only). I was on the press conference last year and was like "seriously guys, do you even know what you are buying?????"
