Carowinds Discussion Thread

Scarowinds is getting very busy now that it's October. I went last Friday night and it's coming to a point of either riding rides or doing the mazes. You wont be able to do both. I went at 6:45pm. Saturday should be somewhat ok. Most people wait until Scarowinds to go to the park being it a separate admission ticket. -

They haven't set a date yet or if they even will considering California Great Adventure didn't have an announcement. They just made the what's new in 2016 link go live. It seems like the same technology carowinds hinted with the whole plants vs zombie thing. -

The new wave pool, the new entrance, Blackbeard's Revenge and parking revamp. There still will be an empty plot of land where TR station was located I guess for future County Fair expansions that's to come hopefully in 2017. Clearly I'll be going over there to eat in Harbor House restaurant if seafood is on the menu. I most excited about that alone. lol. I wonder also where this starbucks is actually going to be located near the front entrance its not much space up there. I'm thinking theyre are going to start phasing out the deco style buildings 1 by 1. Hopefully they give the current slides and structures thats there a good power washing, rust treatments and paint jobs just to freshen up the place with the new themes. -

A lot of rumors out there suggesting both KD and CW will be getting a wing coaster in 2017. Cw just got a ride why do they need it. Kd need it the most Ok they said BOTH parks may receive one. If true why does it matter CW is in a different country. -

I was at the park last night and noticed they finally finished the tunnel lighting. Night rides are essential even the more. Hopefully they add a mist or fog machine to enhance it more. -

I think the concept of the RMCing is coming from i think is that the contract they have with 6flags is up and also the verbiage being used in the annoucement "last race" which was used when Colossus was announced to take its last race before being transformed to twisted colossus. Then the word "retire" which was used in the closure announcement for mantis at Cedar Point. I could be wrong tho. -

Pretty much close to every day because of the intense heat and the humidity here. pop up thunderstorms are the norm in the afternoon / evening hours but it's like for 5-10 mins. Either way the park never closes its gates nor the ride unless lighting is present; all rides remain in operation during rain fall. -

Ok here we go I'm an avid season pass holder and i'm at the park pretty much almost every day its open rather to ride enjoy shows or just eat lol 1. Chickies and Pete's have some great cheesesteakes and of coarse the crab fries are awesome. Harmony hall have a great selection of food the Italian hot subs and the pizzas are good in the Italian line. The pulled pork add bbq and the made to order brisket with mac and cheese are awesome from the bbq line also the shrimp and grits, the chicken sandwiches and hamburgers and potato swirl fries are great in grill line, if it looks like its been under the lamp for a while you can ask for a freshly made sandwich. If you're vegan there's plenty of salads and fruits to choose from as well. The backery have some great cupcakes too. For something quick to walk around with you have dockside fries in front of the carolina cobra, I propose the Carolina BBQ Fries, which fries topped with pulled pork bbq and cheese or the pimento cheese fries. Their extra long corndogs are great as well. The fish plate is hit or miss. Hit the funnel cake emporium as you leave the park they have so many topping combinations to choose from. Outside the park you have Cracker Barrel, Wendy's, McD's, Bojangles chicken and biscuits and Culver's famous frozen custards and butter burgers. 2. Fridays aren't really that bad in the morning due to school however Fridays are also education days so the bus lot is normally packed full of school and youth group buses but still manageable early in the day. After hmmm I'll say 3ish that's when it my get a little more heavy. Now that this weekend is memorial it 's definitely going to be packed that Saturday due to the Joyfest gospel concert with some of the top gospel artist like kirk franklin, mary mary, tamela mann, fred hammond, tye tribett, etc and that Sunday after church which I'll guesstimate after 2pm is when the park normally picks up. Monday will be jam because that's the place to be on Memorial day if you're a charlotte resident. Lines are typically extra long on all rides Memorial Day and during JoyFest. If you get there at opening just go straight to Nighthawk and kill that bird then because if you wait until later over half of your day will be spent standing in that line. -

I'm thinking it may have been the wind. That week winds were on the high side and I heard if the chairs swing to much it would cause the ride to stop. A ride op said that the dampers have a small sensor on them to so if it moves to much the ride stops. Is this true? I dont know; that's just what I've been told. -

Landscaping isn't nearly done. The trellis are still awaiting the arbor vines that have been planted near each support, so once the vines grow that we the shaded area for seating. Trees are also to be planeted later in the green. Although I'm sure that area will turn into a pinic area for families who typically bring there food to the park and just spread sheet on the grass for lunch. -

Looking at it from the plaza like that you would think there's a body of water beyond the coaster, like dare I say Cedar Point. -

Via Mike's Twitter the sign is in place in the new plaza. It looks like they've added all the counties from both SC and NC states in the area as well. That's a nice touch. I think it was in the old entrance too tho . -

The lights on the lift is highly direction. You cant see it from Charlotte at all it's a faint dull glow. It's only bright coming into the entrance road to carowinds and then dulls out once you approach the toll plaza. You have to literally be facing the way the camera is set up to get the bright excessive glow, Which I for one like. I also like that it's a steady light . Intimidator, Thunder Road and Woodstock Express all have chaser lights on the lifts hill. Plus Fury325's support are suppose to be alternating between white and green also. -

Because that's Kings Island. They bring in about 2-3 million more than Carowinds already, plus they're known to have epic opening days/weekends. The Saturday after is during the 2wk spring break operation a Saturday that early in the season isn't bad at all. The only ride you'll probably be in line for over an hour is Nighthawk, everything else would be around 15-20mins or a simple walk on. Anything on and after Memorial Day is when Saturdays are stupid crazy due to the waterpark being in operation. -

Opening day for whatever new ride is never jam packed at carowinds. Now Fury325 it may be a little more people out and about but not to a point of standing in line for over an hour hell maybe even 30-45 min. I think it was said earlier Carowinds opening days always seem to be a rainy one slightly cooler than anticipated, only the true carowinds lovers are out on opening day.
