  1. Carowinds actually had a Christmas event called Winterfest back in 2005 in Paramount days, but it wasn't as popular as they hoped for I guess and it was scrapped after that one time. For what it was it was nice. They had parades, Santa corner the park was heavily themed to Christmas and covered in lights and ornaments and only the slower rides were open. i.e skytower, carousal, wave swinger, and scrambler. Plus back then it was cooler during December then I guess global warming took on and now these days it does average between 65-75 here. It doesn't get cold here in Charlotte until mid-January - early March, if it snow typically mid-February early March. I always get mad now in November when the park is closed for the season because it's typically still spring like out if not hot.
  2. Whether you need one day or two depends. How large is the family? What are the ages of the kids? I know with families meals, bathroom breaks, naps and games take some time. I'll be traveling with my wife and 7 year old daughter. My daughter is 51'' inches right now so she'll limited on what she can ride. My wife doesn't ride as much stuff as she used to, so I'll probably be riding some stuff solo. We won't be visiting the water park. Does Carowinds offer Starlight tickets? I checked their site and didn't see any mention of them. If they do, that'll give us about a day and a half at the park, should be plenty of time. I saw there are hotels within walking distance to the park. Any suggestions would help out a ton. I have to take the wife to Myrtle Beach for three days after Carowinds. I'm trying to make the most out of my part of the vacation. Thanks again If you're speaking of tickets after 4pm yes, though they haven't updated the website. If they do tickets are normally like 25-28 dollars online.
  3. I was going to say the same thing. Sundays are very much slow in the early months. Not until school is out which is June here is when it picks up but its still not worse than a Saturday being I go almost 3 to 4x a week any day but Saturday.
  4. Dont know if anyone noticed that they did LED testing back on the Dec 16th. Carowinds' GM Mike Fehnel posted a pic on his twitter page. I drive pass on my way home every night and saw it, but I thought my eyes were just tripping from a person who had bright HIDs in my mirror lol. I wonder if theyre taking the approach as of Banshee with LEDs through out the ride at different points or just the lift supports. I'm more interested to see if there will be some massive lighting package over the 2 paths that the coaster goes over that enter the new entrance plaza.
  5. The mere fact that Intamin only calls there coasters over 300ft "giga" coasters and B&M actually refers them as still a "hyper" or 'mega" coasters.
  6. This is an awesome expansion and I'm sure this will be a crowd pleaser. I wonder if they will relocate the Ozark Wildcat twister in the near future. That's a great GCI IMO.
  7. Welp the cyan flyer has a home as Jay from CC revealed, Acrobat will be at Nagashima Spaland in Japan, which leaves the teal/yellow track. Pretty sure that's carowind's, if not then this will be a huge surprise. http://themepark.nl/ubb/ubbthreads.php/topics/2146052/Acrobat_B_M_Flyer_voor_Nagashi.html
  8. Also the colors go with with the media invite that were sent out not to long ago. I think TheDark8 mention this already. courtesy from jonathan on carowinds connection courtesy of screamscape courtesy of screamscape
  9. ^^^ I was thinking that to myself as well. Normally painted the neon yellow would be painted up the spine leaving an inch to a few for the secondary color on the rails and top of the spine. As shown on Behemoth as well as Mantis, Gatekeeper and Raptor. It just seems weird that just the bottom of the spine is painted neon yellow but I still love this scheme. yellow spine/red rails aqua spine /sky blue rails yellow green spine / dark green rails
  10. It's been hinted on CC that "maybe" the entire thrill zone section will be re-themed and hurler screamweaver and drop zone may get new names as well. Do I believe no cuz then they would have to remodel the diner into the themed area as well however if true that would be awesome. Also just to throw controversy in has anyone seen track at the plant yet? By this time in 2009 Intimidator's track was already showing up on site at carowinds and at the plant way back in June of 09 and we have yet to see anything there besides the four coaster colors that were out there now at their homes. I'm still torn between Mack and B&M IMO lol
  11. uh yea footers dont determine the manufacturer. Intimidator 232 have square footers at the back turn around and transfer track station.
  12. I doubt there will be a MCBR on the coaster and also less airtime hills and more lower to the ground twist and turns to have that high speed thrill which I'm sure it will already be quite fast.
  13. ^ RIGHT....so the question is where's the carowinds coaster? Is it in the field getting rusty in the back corner? Is it still inside still being fabricated. One thing for sure. B&M sure is making good money this year. That's five coaster being fabricated so far just in the U.S., who knows whats being done at the European plant.
  14. Well massive tree removal have begun in the front of the park being that the entrance is supposed to be moved further out to somehow interact with the new coaster and the parking and entry roads to be shifted with a new toll plaza being a little before you can enter the current non operating season pass parking lot. S/O to Patrick for the great photos from Clermont. Now I know we've ruled out the white and the orange. based on his pics theres a piece of the teal that looks like it's either going into an inversion or that one hell of an overbank turn. other pics:
  15. Not to read into anything to deeply, but on the teaser banner on north america it said Dia Nova pretty big. I researched it and it translated into the "NEW DAY" in Portuguese...
  16. I'll be out at the park tomorrow. I zoomed in on the photo and it looks like there some language on the North American continent that says "Dia Nova". Another thing, looking at the blueprints that's quite a tight turn after a 300+ drop. It almost looks like the turn on I-305. Are we for sure that this will indeed be a Beemer? Looking at the pics from the Ohio plant there were 4 colors outside laying around: white, yellow, teal, and orange. Now I was sure the white track was for carowinds with the name Centurion it's only right, but those track pieces showed up in Italy. The teal and yellow coaster looks to be an invert or flyer to me at least based on the struts by the spine of the track. So that leaves the orange which supposedly for Holiday Worlds 2015 ride. Sooooo either Carowinds track is just not in the yard or it could be Intamin. That will make my year for sure.
  17. i dont think it would make sense for Carowinds to use Fury 325 unless the Fury Halloween haunt isn't returning in 2015...which i would not have an issue with...its not scary at all
  18. I've been to the park several times since opening. The focus right now are getting harmony hall and the slides open, which should be in few weeks because they're definitely over scheduled and the GP have voiced their opinions about it especially the slides on top of season pass holders not being able have their personal parking lot. At opening there was a ton of construction going on all over the park with the new Chickies and Petes in the boardwalk section with moving Chick fil a into the old country kitchen location and the moving of funnel cakes into the old chick fil a location as an emporium opening the dockside fries in front of Carolina Cobra, adding the TVs in the quene lines then revamping hurlers first banked curve only to recently add the trim brake back on and the slides, I think they took on a bit much. All that's been done so far concerning the new coaster is a wood fence surrounding the area and behind it the removal of the karts and the tires that are now stacked to the side, the track seems to have holes drilled in all over place and where ripcord was the concrete foundation and targets are still in place. I agree back in 2009 we saw hints of Intimidator by this time with the whole lightning strikes twice thinking white lighting or the name was coming back.
  19. ^ I agree it looks like the trains with the stadium seating is getting the seatbelt treatment and the traditionals arent. Apollos Chariot haven't gotten the seatbelts either THANK GAWD!!!!
  20. Well sir I've been twice so far on opening day and last saturday. Thrill zone is a dead zone right now with Xtreme Skyflyer now Ripcord now in the front of the park. The area is fenced off. The go karts are leaving as well. To see anything you'll have to ride the improved Hurler, GCI did an awsome with the first turn from the drop NO MORE TRIM BRAKE. The Outer Hanks seafood is still going thru its transformation into an air conditioned sit down Chickies and Petes resturaunt. The old country kitchen spot will now be home to Chick fil a and the old chick fil a spot is the new funnel cake shop which moved from the front of the park which now houses Auntie Annnie's pretzel shop. Everything is still under construction except Auntie Annie's which is open also Paradise Treats is now Dockside Fries. The Mini-Golf hut has been removed and replaced with a small store named One Stop Shop, planet snoopy received a new game in front of the balloons. The Snoopy Starlight lights that were on the trees have been removed and the buses are indeed parking in the former season pass holder lot. Also pieces of Dorsal Fin Drop and Surfer Swell are in the Thunder Road lot, it's just a muddy pit where the slides are supposed to be in just under 2 months. The building in front of Ripcord is in its third form, originally it was a Nickelodeon Central game, then a Planet Snoopy shop, and now a shop in the front, and suit up zone in the back. The Planet Snoopy sign was moved back to a planter near Flying Ace and some trees in the Carolina Showplace plaza were removed and replaced with little trees. That area isn't going to be so nice come summer time. The Corndog stand in the boardwalk now sells funnel cakes and Surfer Joes got a blue and teal paint job, with new signage. Also of coarse Afterburn is sporting a fresh coat of paint same colors and Ricochet have new colors with teal and dark blue supports with a lime green track. Carolina Cobra added seatbelts. The quene lines of the roller coaster have new tvs that show music vids welcome messages and guessing games like park trivia. The new Harmony Hall dining facility is still underway and it's MASSIVELY HUGE!!!! Side Note: plaza fiesta mall is totally torn down to make way for the new outdoor sports store. Sorry for the essay lol.
  21. if they were to add seatbelts they'd have to completely change the seats and the lapbars on the trains. 2nd why wait 4yrs in to do that. smh. The only coaster in the park that added seatbelts why idk is cobra.
  22. Isn't the flying dutchman pretty similar to windseeker? It'ss just that the seeker is 250ft taller lol.
  23. I am glad that cedar fair is making an effort to hold on to or bring back the original charms that once lived at carowinds. Harmony Hall is the old original saloon style theater that opened with the park but was later transformed into the now boo blasters. It's good they brought the name back for the food complex.
  24. People will always find something to complain about!! I look at it as they're giving more food options or housing some of the repeated food concession for future flat ride expansions and attrations. I also heard theyre relocating chick fil la and theres also a permit for dockside fries this year as well and of course chickies and petes will be replacing outer hanks in the boardwalk section. Im excited just for the food lol
