Gardaland Discussion Thread
aceospades1250 replied to Rockman89's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Looks to me like they just took one of their standard cookie-cutter rides and slapped a new trail on it. Nothing special It's not like Intamin didn't build this same concept 3 years ago, and Arrow way back in 2002. -
I know you guys hate this question, but I want to go to the Mountain for the first time in several years next weekend and I'm wondering what day is the best to go. I haven't been to the park since before the X ->X2 transformation, but I don't really need a ride on X since I've ridden it several times before. Also, whats the best order to hit the rides so that I can get as many in as possible? (need to ride Terminator for sure) Thanks guys/gals!

I've put together an Excel spreadsheet with some useful formulas for making rides in Newton 2. I've found these formulas helpful in Newton and they aren't in the built-in calculator. So far it can be used to find: Horizontal turn banking and G-force Horizontal acceleration in Gs Target launch length I'll post it here and consider it open for anyone to add on to, or improve. Enjoy! Coaster Formulas.xlsx

Nürburgring launched coaster
aceospades1250 replied to thomas2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The acceleration in Gs is defined by: G = s/(t*g) G= #of Gs s = speed in m/s t = time g = gravity, 9.8m/s^2 By my calculations Dodonpa pulls an incredible 2.71 Gs during it's launch. Ring Racer should pull 2.44 Gs, which is about halfway between Xcelerator's launch and Dodonpa's. It will still be one hell of a ride! -
RCT4?
aceospades1250 replied to coasterdude5's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I don't think using real company names in an RCT game is impossible. Remember the easter egg in RCT2 where you named a guest Elissa White and the guest rode only Intamin rides? -

Nice trip report! Now I'm even more stoked that I got onto Maverick queue free -
Heres another possible reason. We all know that the Intamin woodies are smooth as glass and seem to last forever, yet structurally they are pretty similar to their Summers/Dinn counterparts. Maybe the Summers/Dinn rides are just the perfect storm of crappyness? I'm just considering a few factors here: Smoothness of track: A ride with a smoother track will have less "jerky" forces exerted on it's structure, and will age better. Environment: Plays a larger part on ride quality than Steel coasters but has a few exceptions (Giant Dipper) Trains: Woodies with lighter, articulated trains will be smoother and their structure will be under less stress. From what I can tell, the Summers/Dinn woodies fail on two out of the three variables, in smoothness and their trains. I'd be willing to bet that over time, a heavier train on the tracks will, over time, distort the tracks slightly, making them rougher. Woodies like Ghostrider which opened fairly smooth, yet currently are rough as hell, are suffering from this effect. Compared to Intamin woodies which opened smooth as glass and currently age as good as or better than most Steel rides. They have Smooth track to begin with and articulated trains.

Wood responds much more poorly than steel to the elements over the years, and it's unfortunate. I guess that the roughness adds some of that "good 'ol woodie charm", but ask anyone who's ridden Hurler or Mean Streak and they might just disagree. Giant Dipper on the Santa Cruz boardwalk has had almost 90 years of exposure to the harsh environment of the boardwalk, yet it is one of the best woodies in California. So clearly there is much more to it than just the wood's response to the elements

If it helps their case at all, I think Mean Streak wasn't too bad before it was trimmed to hell, and Psyclone was damaged by the Northridge earthquake. I also remember hearing that whatever trains they were using were very heavy and were hard on the tracks/structure, causing them to go to shit over time.

Ferrari World Discussion Thread
aceospades1250 replied to Captain Jack's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No doubt this is a world class coaster, and the first 10 seconds of the ride would be better than most coasters as a whole. But I can't help but be a little disappointed with how much the ride is trimmed. It seems like just a few mph more would take this ride over the edge. -
So....Florida = winsconsin? Nice report and Piers is lol.
