  1. Batman: The Ride is easily the most intense ride I've ever been on, period. Though X2 in the back row is a pretty close second...
  2. and I understand what you are saying with the polarities now. I bet the program that takes the info from the sensors, processes it, and sychronizes the motors is pretty complex.
  3. The Fioraono GT Challenge coaster is funky looking ride with all the unbanked turns and the height of the track that never goes over what looks like 30 feet or so. I hope its a fun coaster, it looks like or could be really fun or really lame. This really is a cool project, the whole concept of the park. It's like an amusement park that isnt really an amusement park. I mean even though it has coasters and a log flume and a drop tower the place looks more like a mall or a cool museum than a traditional theme park. Even the traditional attractions are a bit quirky, a log flume through an engine block, a flat un-banked dueling racing coaster, a super fast coaster with a relatively uninteresting layout, and a tower ride through the roof. A very unique project at least and I cant wait to see more about the place.
  4. Hmm. I don't think those are arrows, they look more like a warning sign to me. From the picture if looks like there is a black and yellow sticker on each magnet, and if they were oriented in that^ way there would be 4 polarities on each magnet, with each axis perpendicular to the stator. That's impossible.
  5. From what I can tell in your first picture, the magnets are oriented with alternating N/S poles, whos axis are aligned parallel to the tracks. The yellow/black stickers seem to represent the polarities, though I'm not sure which one is N/S. I can't see why else they would be there. It looks like they would be oriented like this: |SN|SN|SN|SN|SN| ---------------------- |NS|NS|NS|NS|NS| I'd be interested to see how the stators switch on and off to synchronize with the rapidly alternating polarities. EDIT: crappy drawing redone for clarity EDIT2: But then, if they were oriented like this, wouldn't the magnetic fields combine into one long, thin loop? That would mean that only the stators directly in front of and behind each car would need to be switched on at any given time (of course different stators would fire as the train moves down the launch track).
  6. ^That is pretty amazing. Now I can see how these systems can generate so much acceleration with such small stators.
  7. Nice copy-paste job bro. Didn't answer my question anyways.
  8. Thanks man! This makes perfect sense and is exactly what I was asking. It's amazing how far this technology has progressed since it was introduced. I remember reading about the horror stories of getting Superman synchronized properly, and now it seems like a new LSM coaster is being opened every few months with no issues. I have a feeling this kind of technology will eventually replace all the moving parts that are typical in rides that use chain/cable lifts or hydraulic launches. It just seems like a safer more reliable system that combines the best aspects of a LIM launch and a cable launch. Kinda like how you very rarely see a new ride that relies solely on pinch brakes to stop the train; almost all modern rides have some kind of eddy-current braking included. Ok, I didn't know about this either. Makes perfect sense though, thanks for the info.
  9. Hey everyone, I'm really curious about these new LSM launches that are popping up all over the place. I'm talking about the thin, white fins that are on iSpeed, Maverick, Sky Rocket, etc. I understand how LSMs work in general, but does anyone know specifically how these motors work? I was under the impression that LSMs were large electromagnets like the ones on Superman The Escape, which pull the train away from the previous motor then switch polarity to push it towards the next. I'm curious as to how the mechanics of the newer ultra-slim versions work, since I can't see how such powerful electromagnets are crammed into such a small space. Are they contained underneath the tracks? Thanks!
  10. The only ride I've ever felt sick on afterwards is Batman The Ride at SFMM. Though I fairly regularly get headaches from X, Ghostrider, and pretty much any rough ride with OTSRs.
  11. Cedar Point, with Magic Mountain a close second.
  12. You're right, you should ask the guy who attacked my post to begin with. Apparently it's not allowed to share an opinion without first sorting through 20 pages of discussion. Peace out.
  13. First off, if you notice in my post nowhere did I imply that everyone is out of the loop, or has no clue what is going on. In fact if you read my actual post I even admitted that it's likely very few who don't already know who Bizarro is, the reason why I included that is because I DIDN'T KNOW who he was and figured there were other people out there who could use the info. I'm simply sharing my opinion. If you don't like it, I don't give a poo-poo. Variations of YOUR username? I've been using this username or a variation of it since 2003. Considering that back then you were 9 years old, I'm pretty sure that you are using a variation of my name
  14. I'm not sure if this theory has been shared yet or not, but here is my opinion on this Superman mega-rehab. For those who don't know (I'm guessing its relatively few), Bizarro is a bit like an opposite-superman. The logo on his suit is mirrored, and several of his other "powers" are opposite (freeze vision instead of heat, gains energy from Kryptonite, etc). Thus, it would make sense that the ride be rethemed to Bizaro, since he is literally a "backwards Superman" Since we have two tracks, I think the most likely scenario is that only one of the tracks will be turned backwards, and rethemed to Bizarro. Both tracks will receive the new cars, and possibly the new computer system, except one of them will be facing forwards. I assume this is as simple as mounting the magnets with opposite polarity. Again, if anyone has shared this theory before, I am not aware of it. What does TPR think?
  15. Magnum XL200, Cedar Point, in car 1 row 3 aka the Ejector Seat. Most painful ride of the day, had no idea what I was getting in to.
  16. I have a feeling they are going to have a hell of a time getting the Intamin hydraulic launch to cooperate at 149mph. When was the last time we saw a record-breaking launched coaster from Intamin that didn't have problems? That said, when it does eventually reach it's maximum speed, I have a feeling it's going to be one of the most amazing rides in the world.
  17. 1. Psyclone - SFMM 2. Ghostrider - Knotts 3. Manhattan Express 4. Magnum XL200 - Cedar Point 5. Viper - SFMM
  18. Wow, the ride in that drawing would kill everyone on the train.
  19. I thought of this legendary moment in rollercoaster history:
  20. Thanks for the input, guys. I think I'm gonna scrap this project and go a different direction for now. I do notice that my tracks tend to be a lot Twistier when i use Newton...
  21. yep, it is, though I had a lot of experience with FVDs back in the days when Coastersims was still around so that helps. Newton is definitely a lot less frustrating
  22. I present a Work in Progress NoLimits ride. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BF9opbJcpWA If I'm happy with the trackwork I will move to supports soon. There are a few things I want to change, like the heartline roll, which really doesn't fit well but just looks cool. What do you guys think? You can probably tell the first bits are heavily influenced by Millennium Force.
  23. It's probably a close tie between Xcelerator and Top Thrill Dragster. Xcelerator's is much more "jerky" forceful, and TTD is mode drawn out. Front row seat on TTD is just insane though, never experienced anything like it before. My heart races just thinking about how awesome it is.
  24. haha, hopefully I can dig up this thread again when I go back. I live in socal and its very rare that I visit the midwest, so it could be years before I go back.
