Early spring weekends are my second favorite time to go to the park, after Halloween Haunt Friday nights. Cool temperatures with hardly any lines! You will be fine. I'll be there that weekend too to kick off my 2013 season and to celebrate Easter lapping 305... -

The GoogleEarth satellite has been updated for Kings Dominion. The imagery was taken on October 21st, 2012 (which means Halloween Haunt props are out). Since the last update Intimidator 305 has received a new first turn and grass around the ride, Snoopy's Starlight Spectacular has been added, Shockwave has received a new color scheme, tons of brick pavers has replaced pavement around the park, Windseeker has been installed, Dinosaurs Alive has been added, and much more! Here are a few highlights of the update... Overview of the park. Intimidator 305, now with a new turn and grass! The park's boneyard located behind Hurler, including Intimidator 305's old first turn track/supports. Shockwave with its new lime green and teal color scheme. Windseeker replaced El Dorado and brick pavers/planters were added to the area where XLC previously was located. Dinosaurs Alive takes up tons of land in the back corner of Old Virginia nestled in between Grizzly and White Water Canyon. CornStalkers, located on International Street across the fountains from Berserker, is out for Halloween Haunt. -

I just visited the park this summer and I have to say that the whole Action Zone part of the park is an eyesore compared to the rest of the park. Hopefully when the new attraction gets built where SOB was, much of that area gets lots of paint and TLC (maybe even a retheme!). -

The restraints were changed out near the end of the season apparently. They change them when needed. It's not like they are too expensive for the star-attraction at a big park... All they are is padding. -

I personally wouldn't care if another coaster replaced Anaconda or not. I would really enjoy either a HUSS Frisbee or a S&S Giant Swing near where Anaconda's station is flying over the lake. I think opening the area up once again and having the giant fountain return would be awesome. They could remove the fencing around the Intimidator 305 plaza and have that be the backdrop to the lake. I've also thought an Intamin Impulse would be awesome where the station/lift is along the lake, but that's a little silly to do since Volcano is within a minute walk away... -

Vortex has to be one of my least favorite coasters, ever. I don't find Anaconda to be that bad, but only ride it 1-2 times a season as I feel stupid riding it when Intimidator 305 is a few feet away... -
Hurricane Sandy vs. Roller Coasters

^ That's insane and very devastating. Having been to all these places that are being impacted by this storm makes it a lot more realistic than something like Katrina since I still haven't been to NOLA. Please stay safe everyone in the northeast! I know here at Virginia Tech we have experienced very powerful winds and snow all day. Winds are reaching 60 MPH and they only seem to be getting stronger. -

I hope all the parks are okay, especially the 2 in Ocean City, NJ (Gillian's Wonderland & Playland's Castaway Cove). I visited there for the first time this summer and absolutely loved the town. It is also home of my 100th coaster credit, Python! -
Doesn't really impact me since I really only go to Kings Dominion, Cedar Point, Kings Island, and Carowinds. 3 of those 4 already had Coca-Cola under the extended contract that Paramount had. But it will definitely be nice to see Coke at the Point next season as I'm a Pepsi-hater and a Coke Zero-lover. Great choice Cedar Fair!

Apparently the Kings Dominion parking lot filled up tonight, Camp Killauee had a 2+ hour line, and Flying Eagles was closed to use its queue for Blue Ridge Bloodbath. -

It will definitely be a tad more crowded now than earlier in the month (happens every year), but if you go on a Friday or Sunday night you will be fine and be able to do practically everything. Saturdays during Haunt should be avoided at all costs so you don't have to stand in all of the lines and so you get a better feel of the atmosphere, which doesn't happen when it is packed! I was there for 4.5 hours and managed to do all 10 mazes (x2 for No Vacancy), 6 scarezones, 3 shows, and 5 rides. Then I went back the next day (Saturday) for 4 hours and managed to do 15 rides (10 straight laps on 305) before heading home. The Haunt crowds were arriving though as I was leaving at 2:30. -

The detail in the maze is what impressed me so much, especially coming from Cedar Fair. Hopefully you'll go through at a good time and get lots of interaction with the scareactors like I did. -

Halloween Haunt XII Review! (finally) In the order that I did them (October 5, 2012)... MAZES: Medieval Macabre Overall Ranking: 6/10 Not bad, not great. Average maze, but because most the others were so good this year, this is in the bottom 3 for me. The outside looks great and I love the new sign! Slaughter House Overall Ranking: 7/10 LOVE the new outside to this maze. It's the best looking one in the park from the outside now! A few good scares and still some of the best theming for Haunt. Disappointed there were no chainsaws at the end for me. Toxic Plague Overall Ranking: 7/10 Not as good as last season, but still good. Last year this was one of my favorites, but the competition has stepped up, so they need to also! Club Blood Overall Ranking: 9/10 THE CLUB IS BACK! I'm pretty sure I hit this on a bad night last season, but it was back up to par (if not better) for me this season. My second best scare of the night was in here. All of the actors were really into it! Blue Ridge Bloodbath Overall Ranking: 6/10 It's such a long ride, but when you finally get to a scareactor, they sure do their job! It's pretty good for being in an open space and while riding in a car, but doesn't compare to the best. Camp Killauee Overall Ranking: 7/10 Best experience I've had it since it debuted in the park, but still not fantastic. I love the theme, love the atmosphere, love the scareactors, but the openness and how you can see the scareactors several feet in advance is what just makes this good, and not great. No Vacancy Overall Ranking: 10/10 By far my new favorite maze in the park. I love the theme, I love the attention to detail, and I love the scareactors' effort. Kings Dominion outdid themselves on this one, it is fantastic. I loved it so much that I went through it once again at the very end of the night! My only change would be to add lots of strobe lights the the television room! CornStalkers Overall Ranking: 10/10 Great maze. Love the actual "maze-ness" to it and all the effort put in by the scareactors. It is very long too, which makes it even better! The Doll Factory Overall Ranking: 9/10 Still one of the best! I'd only put it behind the new mazes that have arrived since it's debut. Still one of, if not the, best endings to a maze in the park. The overall theme is still very creepy! Outbreak: The Evolution Overall Ranking: 9/10 I love how this maze went from being the worst when it was Alien Outpost to being in the top-4 for me now. Theming is great, scareactors are great, and the overall feel of it is fantastic. SCAREZONES: Cleaver Brothers Carnival Overall Ranking: 8/10 Basically CarnEvil, with much better props and costumes. The props look a lot more permanent and expensive now and even create a nice environment during the day! Necropolis Overall Ranking: 9/10 Most improved scarezone for 2012! This thing was a Central Stalkway knock-off last year and now it is great with some of the best props in the park! The atmosphere is amazing and so are the scareactors. Feary Tales Overall Ranking: 6/10 Good, but short. Still love the hanging strobes and the creepy baby laughters. Fits in well being in the kiddie area and with Medieval Macabre being at the end of it. Primevil: The Kuru Curse Overall Ranking: 8/10 Basically The Ruins, with much better props and costumes. The props look a lot more permanent and expensive now and even create a nice environment during the day! I wish they'd leave some of the decorations up year round! The Lair Overall Ranking: 6/10 Good, but short. I'd rather see a scarezone in the SkyFlyer/Windseeker plaza than in here. The classic vampire theme compliments the crazy punk vampire theme of Club Blood well. IronWorX Overall Ranking: 9/10 Still my favorite this year, the overall atmosphere and feeling in this zone cannot be matched! I love everything about it besides the somewhat lack of scares... but the costumes are amazing enough to just take in! SHOWS: Overlord's Resurrection Overall Ranking: 9/10 As usual, it's a great way to kick-off Haunt! I love the new decorations in front of the fountains and the new song that they use at the beginning. Does anyone know what it is called, PLEASE?! The Night Shift Overall Ranking: 7/10 Good singing actually and I really enjoyed it! I just wish there was a bit of a plot to it... Uprising Overall Ranking: 5/10 This needs improvement. I like the stage set-up, lights, and costumes. Maybe a whole new show should just come in? MAZES (best to worst): 1.) No Vacancy 2.) CornStalkers 3.) The Doll Factory 4.) Outbreak: The Evolution 5.) Club Blood 6.) Slaughter House 7.) Toxic Plague 8.) Camp Killauee 9.) Medieval Macabre 10.) Blue Ridge Bloodbath SCAREZONES (best to worst): 1.) IronWorX 2.) Necropolis 3.) Cleaver Brothers Carnival 4.) Primevil: The Kuru Curse 5.) Feary Tales 6.) The Lair SHOWS (best to worst): 1.) Overlord's Resurrection 2.) The Night Shift 3.) Uprising Overall, Halloween Haunt XII is the best year yet!!! -

^ Nope, it was either just another fanboy rumor or the plan got scrapped. I got 3 rides in the front on Volcano this weekend, and there's no signs of anything happening soon. Also, I was beyond impressed by Haunt XII. I'll post a full review later on, but I'd give the park a solid A on the event this season. -
