  1. Wouldn't you consider each launch to be a block as well?
  2. And please note that this is the most expensive and most complex ride Busch Gardens Williamsburg has built to date, at least according to the park. Reusing the footers was prudent and cost-effective. There's always a balance between "show" and "budget," even at parks like Universal and Disney. BDG, you've stated your point--no need to beat it into the ground. Not only that, but cranes, cherry pickers, etc. are not small machines; I'd venture a guess to say that they're still in need of larger maintenance access to the track than once the ride is complete. Also, there are still 2 months to go before opening.
  3. On the topic of Alphengheist... I still think that the MCBR on that ride is probably one of the most jarring experiences I've ever had on a coaster... The transition from the banking into it is just brutal... On the topic of Verbolten: I'm jealous of you all who get that in your park. Each update makes it look better and better. You can have Cheetah Hunt if you want to trade...
  4. Devils Advocate: I've not seen where the ride op was stationed, but it would be good to remember that you can not always see everything from a single point as the front cars and center mast will occlude the back ones on a lot of these spinning rides. Hell, Witch's Wheel at Cedar Point scared the bejeezus out of me the time I rode it because the restraints aren't that great and certain clothes (especially when wet as you get after Shoot the Rapids) cause you to slide a bit more than one should...
  5. This is making me wonder what the Destiny will be like in April... my first cruise ever...
  6. Animal Kingdom gets a new themed land to Pandora, Disneyland gets Compton... sounds like a fair trade!
  7. Looks like the drop is smoothed out a bit and not as far down (could be the angle of the pictures I've seen of before/after though) as it seems to be a bit higher over the ground... I've not ridden the coaster, but seen PoVs and it seemed like it hauled ass in this section... my guess would be that the weight of the trains coupled with the speed they're going just tore apart the first section of the turn...
  8. So, Turtle Trek is just in the Manatee building pre-show, or is it taking over the entire complex?
  9. Less Cheese? How is that possible in something with a) Brendan Fraiser and b) anything related to the Mummy franchise? I think the Mummy at USF is one of my favorite rides , whats really different between the two?
  10. Too early to make jokes about the car being a stretch... no... make that super stretch limo?
  11. For the iloverides one: Am I the only one who thinks the left justified TPR logo seems a bit off, there is a lot of empty space between it and the social media buttons...
  12. Does anyone forget that Epcot, while busy through the summer season, sees a lot of its crowd through its annual Food & Wine fest? If time tables are correct, then wouldn't this be opening just at the beginning of it? Epcot has always struck me as the park that creates its own seasons. Yeah, there are people in the summer (Soarin' is always a wait, its not the crowds, its the hourly ride capacity) but Flower/Garden Festival and Food & Wine just seem to have more people there when I'm there. So in April after the Easter crowds and partially for Flower/Garden fest the ride goes down, and comes up (hopefully) in Fall 2012 for the Food & Wine fest.
  13. You forgot to show the initial castle pictures before they added the extra rock work to hide the box along the mini-coaster side...
  14. Wow, we all have failed with the exclusion of this comment.
  15. I glanced through most of the posts and haven't seen it really mentioned... The actual attraction space for the Jaws boats is pretty big, especially if filled in for a structure... you add in the land behind it (as seen on Google Maps) and you start to get a nice section for a new theme... what I'm wondering is... with Jaws going away, what is going to happen to Amityville's July 4th celebratory games and shops? When you pass Disaster, you're technically in the Jaws area along that main path... all of that midway section up to the theater could be (and hopefully is) on the chopping block with the removal of the ride. We've seen what Universal is willing to do with construction fences and building new bridges throughout a massive project like WWoHP...
  16. Not a joke, it is one of the better Chinese buffets I've been to and they have a ridiculously cheap take out option.
  17. How so? Spinning close to the ground or pointing towards the ground at the bottom of a dive could be some terrific thrills not requiring a huge amount of height... Bigger is not always better...
  18. Is looking nice, but from the pictures there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of shade... I know its getting cooler (the news won't shut up about "Cooler weather!" down here and its going to be a wonderfully balmy high of 81!!) but with Florida as it is, there didn't look to be much to escape the heat or storms of a summer. True or were they just not shown in the pictures?
  19. The Director has always been one of my favorite characters for HHN... glad to see he lives on elsewhere.
  20. All of the lead up to the new cheetah ride & enclosure had the baby cheetah and puppy... I can't think of their names now, but they've grown up together and they are in the enclosure by themselves at special times...
  21. I'm not an animal hater, nor lover.... but all I'm saying is if they didn't wiggle their ears and shoot planes out of the sky, then maybe this whole ordeal could've been avoided. They, like Han Solo, shot first.
  22. Sad story, especially considering the incident at Discovery Cove not but 2-3 weeks ago... But... Was he one of the guards in the middle sections of the slide, the catch pool, the top of the tower? I just find it odd to have "measures in place" for lightning but then have your employee in 2-3 feet of water....
  23. The only seat that tries to violate you is Mantis...
  24. "I love Mean Streak" All I need to see to completely ignore everything after it ( I'm kidding ) It feels like a jack hammer on the bottom of some of the hills though... I see how some could not like the way Maverick tosses you around, but to me that adds to some of the fun. It whips the crap out of you, yes, but at least its airtime hill actually has air unlike its 300 ft tall cousin...
  25. Quick Question: How is Maverick not rated higher in coaster polls or opinions? I've been to Cedar Point before years ago when Top Thrill Dragster opened and it hadn't been built, and while I find Millennium Force and Dragster fun... neither warrant their waits when compared to Maverick. We just got back from a small vacation to see family in the north and I somehow coaxed people into a CP trip... one where I could try out some of the rides they've added or that I didn't have a chance to ride... Maverick is plain awesome. Now, I did experience it at night for the first time so that might add to the allure, but good god it was not at all what I was expecting. It never lets up and from the drop to the brakes completely fun and crazy... I wish Cheetah Hunt was more similar so I didn't have to travel 16+ hours to ride it again...
