  1. Also something to think about: If Freestyle Music is struggling to survive, and they are a fully functional park, not one that would have to be brought back from the dead like SFNO would, and it can't even get funding then I can't see someone in this economy wanting to fund SFNO. And as so well spoken above, if the park was failing when New Orleans was at its peak, then how in the world can it survive now?
  2. I see nothing wrong with it really. Me personally I just don't feel like wasting time running around getting a bunch of dragon wagons or whatever. Now if I was somewhere and ran across one, I might pick it up but there's a wacky worm or something like that in Georiga I really don't care if I ever get. I've gotten all the credits in NC and all the SC ones I can get (the Wacky Worm at Family Kingdom is no-adults). But if there was a credit out on the outer banks or whatever, I really don't feel like driving out there just to get it.
  3. Boris must get his news by pony express. I mean honestly, the thing was announced what 3 years ago? He's just now commenting on it? And does he really think a large amusement park could be built in the city limits of a huge metropolis like London?
  4. First Park - Carowinds First Coaster - Intimidator - Media Day First New Coaster - Intimidator First crappy overpriced theme park meal - Carowinds
  5. I've never heard of it happening. I'm not saying I hear of everything that has ever happened on coasters, but that would be a huge deal if that actually happened. Maybe Robb or Elissa can shed some light.
  6. ^It popes you? So it's Catholic? Actually Coasters is at the former Cedar Fair parks only. The former Paramount Parks have Juke Box Diner, formerly Happy Days Diner.
  7. But that's what message boards are for: arguing about topics where most of the people only know half (if that much) of the real facts. I do agree though this is getting old, and at this point none of us is going to influence any change in the coaster so we might as well move on. I find it strange though (not really) that most people in here are complaining about the ride, and have yet to ride or re-ride the coaster. I got to ride it before the trim install, and I'll just hold off any more thoughts until the time when I can actually ride it again. And switching gears: I personally thought Grizzly was running FANTASTIC a few weeks back when I visited the park. I'm amazed that the park can keep this beauty running like they do, but Hurler can never be fixed. I don't know why they would say that, unless they can't anticipate the twists in the dark. I rather enjoyed my one dark ride.
  8. I rode Hurler again tonight and like Puffer said, the ride has ZERO air now. It has 2 trims at the base of the first drop, and while they don't hit hard like say Beast or Mean Streak, they are enough that it knocks it down slow enough that you don't have the speed for air time.
  9. Place looks awesome, but am the only one that thinks this place (exterior) looks like some alien space ship?
  10. It's weird how 305's didn't feel that way to me, like they did on Maverick. They look the same, but maybe there are some differences.
  11. I know, that's what I was saying. We started calling the gulls the Raptor paint crew becasue they poop on it so much.
  12. I see the Raptor paint crew was doing their inspections. And yeah those fuzzies drove my alergies crazy in 1999 when I first went to the park. Now I'm Claratin clear!
  13. Good point Robb, and does anyone remember all the trouble they had with Volcano? It took what, 3 years to finally get it running reliably and I don't recall ever riding it with 3 trains, just 2. A friend of mine did get to ride it opening year, but it took 3 hours.
  14. From that angle, it looks like the track ends and the cars about to go off the end of it, RCT style.
  15. Yeah I've had days when the queue was half full, and it still was only about a 15 minute wait. I still have to remind myself it's a NEW coaster too! Even Cobra's crew was very quick last year for a boomerang. Now if only they could train the Hurler crew to be that way.
  16. If I had answered this question about 5 years ago, I would have said YES. I was so bored with Carowinds on so many levels. But with the addition of Intimidator, the flyers and the overall improvements I've seen since Cedar Fair took over, I really enjoy going to the park as much as I can. Is it my favorite park? No, not by a long shot. But I still have a good time, and when Thunder Road and Hurler are overhauled, it will be even better.
  17. Glad you had a good time. There was no way I was heading to the park Saturday, I pulled up the webcam and saw the queue pretty full.
  18. ^ I totally agree. What's crazy is that back in the first two seasons, the best place was the back row. Now I'd be killed if I rode back there. Um, that would be Thunder Run. Thunder Road is at Carowinds.
  19. Sadly I never got to ride it. It was opening the year I was down there last, but it still wasn't open yet or was having technical problems. I have always thought it was more a ride suited for Disney anyway, but that's just me.
  20. Maybe just let it sit for 10 years and see if it sinks into the ground.
  21. Just to throw something else into the mix, I was told (and now things are fuzzy if it was a manager or not that told me) that Carowinds actually built their Hurler on an old park landfill. Apparantly things like the original Thunder Road trains are buried in there. But as you can imagine, a landfill shifts and sinks over time, so I can only imagine what problems with footers they've had on the coaster if this is indeed true. And it wasn't the dippin dots guy or anything either, just can't remember who exactly told me.
  22. When you get Taco Bell or Chick-fil-a, let me know. And thanks for the responses everyone. I read TPR a lot, and really enjoy the "foreign" reports more than the US ones, because of course those parks are not something I can easily get to any time soon. I do hope to do a TPR European trip sometime in the near future though. Looks like you guys have a lot of fun.
  23. Again, this is your opinion. Maverick in my eyes is one of the worst designed coasters ever built. I hate feeling like a rag doll on a coaster, and that's how I felt on my rides. And as someone said earlier, if we start splitting up rankings, then soon we will have things like "#1 Steel Coaster With 4 Inversions In North Carolina!". Maybe not, but an award is for excellence, not just being good. If that were the case, then the Oscars should go the route of the Golden Globes (Best Picture in comedy/musical and drama). Which to me isn't so so special as just winning Best Picture and it covers all genres.
