Lol in restrospect you're right, this makes a ton of sense. My post was referencing the fact that ever since they posted the photo of the raptor track we all (I'll include myself in this one) lost our sh*t trying to figure out what park bought one for 2018 and the enthusiast community as a whole somehow decided it was going to Silverwood or Knott's when in fact it's going in the parking lot. I totally get what they're doing, but there's something pretty funny about that IMO. I wasn't taking a dig at you personally, it was aimed at our whole community that needs to be able to laugh at itself. Haha, I got caught your drift there, Larrygator. Although, as a throwback, this does remind me of the times back in 1999/2000 when a photo of Thrust Air 2000's track was being and forums swarmed at Coasterbuzz about it going to Cedar Point, meanwhile S&S put it in their parking lot. lol, those were the days.

The part I don't get about the Hulk-second half complaints is (1) the ride is 3/4 finished my the block brake and (2) what B&M sit-down/floorless has an inspired post-block break/second half anyway? Maybe a case could be made for Kumba/Kraken b/c of the tunnel, but Is there much you could actually expect done besides a standard 1-2 corkscrews and some helices?

Out of curiosity, this would be the first modern steel coaster (post 2000, though Hulk was technically opened in 1999) that has had a full track refurbishment? Has that happened besides coasters that have been relocated (Apocalypse, Thunderhawk, etc.)? I fall on the cautionary side that Universal make enough addition/enhancement to find some way to market it. This looks to be far more than a Disney's Space Mountain changes back in 2009 (costly but not enough of a ride experience change on a scale that Disney would market).

Polercoaster coming to Atlantic City?
vertigomkie replied to terdferg's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ You're right, I forgot that is the Chairman Tower of the Taj and not the closed Orleans Tower of the Showboat. There are still three vacant towers on that corridor (not including the others further down). Straub didn't even want to re-open Revel (the city has been attempting to strong-arm the developers into opening Revel for the past year. Why?). I doubt Revel is any closer to re-opening than Stockon University is close to their resort-to-residential college conversion of the Showboat. -
Polercoaster coming to Atlantic City?
vertigomkie replied to terdferg's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ummm, I'll give it to you straight, no chaser. Three of the four resort towers in this photo below are vacant, and the Taj (far left) filed bankruptcy last year. The now closed Revel resort (far right) was a multi-billion development on Las Vegas Main Strip standards and 2nd largest resort project completed in the U.S. this century. It remained open for two years and four months. Sure, Atlantic City has/had some decent casinos, but it doesn't matter if they're closed. -
You nailed it, Boulder Dash is my personal fav, followed by El Toro. All of the above. I loved Outlaw Run, El Toro, and all the other RMCs (NTG and WC) that I've been one but first drop for Boulder Dash will always take the cake. The fact that this is the start of a 120 foot drop, literally a few feet off the ground, sets it on a different level than all other woodies I've been on.

Knoebels Discussion Thread
vertigomkie replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^there seemed to be no problem with the ACE folks snapping most of the afternoon (that was with 2 of the 4 operators). All in all Knoebel's was in rare form. The Covered Bridge Festival combined with PPP really adds another element to the park that makes it inconceivable what Knoebel's would be like without all the added crafts, food, and merriment. The best afternoon I've had at an amusement park and certainly worth the drive. Will definitely be coming back next year. -
I wonder if CF is just going to continue to neglect CGA and not invest much capital into it while they try to unload it? Enough with the neglect talk. The park is currently fighting to get rezoned so it can obtain permits to add to the park. Remember all the bs and delay that Gold Striker had? Yeah, they don't want to go through that again. Remember that between Gold Striker's proposal back in 2008/2009 and it's debut in 2013, Cedar Fair did try to divest the park (2011). Majority know it's not a neglect talk since the CGA, Santa Clara County, and Cedar Fair riff has been so transparent. A clearer sign of what they actually hope for the park is what would be nice.

^also, I never got how the Cedar Fair Morgan (Wild Thing/Steel Force/Mamba) all have the same 60 degree 200ft drop that Magnum XL and the Arrows do, yet the latter gets praised and the trio get lambasted. Not that Magnum is the same ride, but it can't be that much better. There isn't much difference between Magnum/Desperado's first drop and the Morgans, and you never hear a nay word said about those Arrows' great first drops.

This was interesting to see on the park's youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klWLjEHYS3g#t=36. Just came across the video CGA put out this season for the new Great America Pavilion. First glimpse I've seen from the park-side of how this dynamic between Levi's Stadium and CGA will play out on camera (given that the park must be closed during the 49ers home games). It's interesting to finally see how these CGA Red Zone Rally 49ers pre-game parties are playing out in real-time. I also didn't know CGA was charging $85 standard admission per Rally per game (not including parking for $40 ! I feel really slow, but it now makes total since why they so aggressively painted Flight Deck red and white as part of the Great America Pavilion/49ers renovation after this video. Credit: CGA 2015

Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread
vertigomkie replied to the_rock401's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'll say it... does Valleyfair really have it that bad? Out of curiosity, year-to-year, what's the estimation of how much has been added to MIA vs Valleyfair since both were acquired in 2001? (not that the metro areas are even comparable, but I'd guess even relatively MIA pales). TBO, Valleyfair isn't even the 2nd most hated child in the chain (Valleyfair has it better than MIA, and neither trails CGA's limbo between park ownership and 13 year coaster drought between Stealth, 2000 and Gold Striker, 2013). CGA thread hasn't complained nearly as much as the social media and enthusiasts have. If anyone has time, would seriously be interested in seeing if Valleyfair compared side-by-side with Michigan Adventure actually get's less capital improvements than Michigan Adventure. -
Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread

That is why you are not a billionaire although I could say money in the wrong, unfrugal hands of an enthusiast one day actually attempting to do this (as sponsorship, not for free though) You're reading too far into it. If you want that $25 million dollar inverted-giga-rmc, you're going to need to spend $25 million more dollars. Wait! Don't forget Cedar Point's cut! Remember? According to some, Cedar Point gets a share of every one of the smaller park's profits! Because God knows Cedar Point doesn't make enough money to support itself and build its own rides.. All kidding aside though, if we want this B&M coaster thing to happen anytime soon..Coke & Corn Dog Fundraiser!!..Who's with me?!?!? 7 Stages of Grief with being the Ugly Stepchild of the Chain, Valleyfair just progressed from Stage 1 to 3 with this comment (and meanwhile the Darien Lake thread is permanently stuck at stage 4). -
If CGA removes Vortex, then the already lackluster coaster lineup will be even worse. CGA is getting left behind by SFDK, especially with the RMC Joker debuting next year. Gold Striker is a great ride, but everything else at the park is just kinda meh. Vortex is by no means a great coaster but it's better than no coaster. Converting it to a floorless would definitely be an improvement, but it's not gonna bring people to the park. Your post just proves by its best to replace it with something better. You just proved my point for me CGA's space is far from maximized, as we already know, even by American-standards (forget Gröna Lund). Is CGA wanted to invest the capital, the coaster will be built and we've seen how everything from B&M hypers (Goliath@SFOG) to S&S 4D Free Spins (Batman@SFFT) to Premier launchers (Superman: Ultimate Flight@SFDK). Bottom-line: If they want B&M, S&S, Intamin, etc. to build something in their small footprint, it will be built. Especially if ::cough:: when ::cough:: they finally remove the old Thunder Raceway, I'd expect the next major attraction to anchor that corner of the park, especially after Invertigo's departure.
