  1. In fairness, I feel like the Cedar Point factor gets coasters ranked lower than they should be, as well. Pretty sure if MF was at another park not named Cedar Point, a lot more people would probably love it. But, c'est la vie.
  2. Screamscape is working fine for me, and they still have a "save the Big Bag Wolf" banner on the BGW page.
  3. Kingda Ka is WAY rougher than TTD. WAYYYYY rougher. The experience on TTD is leaps and bounds better than on KK. Not to mention the difference in restraints, and that hill does absolutely nothing except make the track length longer. And Cedar Point rarely ever puts in the "same ride as everyone else." If you remember, TTD came two years before KK, and they more often than not have broken height/speed records for whatever type of coaster they build. Other parks might clamor to top CP, but they've been the ones setting the bar for over 20 years now.
  4. ^That's sorta the point of the poll, ya know.
  5. My rankings are almost the exact same way, all my B&M hypers are practically one after the other.
  6. THE RESULTS ARE IN!!! http://www.ushsho.com/steelrollercoasterpollresults2010.htm Top Ten Steel Roller Coasters in the World! 1. Bizarro 2. Expedition GeForce 3. Intimidator 305 4. Kawasemi 5. Piraten 6. Nemesis 7. Millennium Force 8. Goliath (Walibi World) 9. Katun 10. iSpeed
  7. Leaking confidential property is such a risky proposition, maybe they should try not doing it next time.
  8. ^Uhhhh......check out Wicked at Lagoon in Utah. Has two launches, including one that goes vertical up a top hat. Manufactured by Zierer. What, does it not have enough LOOP-DE-LOOPZ for you?
  9. ^You enter the building, turn, go through a helix and into some type of block brake or something, then you pull a u-turn to where those "gnarly hands" are. Some crazy visual/audio effects take place, maybe the hands "grab" at you, the train rocks back and forth, then the track drops and you launch back out of the building. That seems about accurate enough for now.
  10. ^So I'm guessing the track will be dropping to avoid those giant hands? That's kinda badass if you ask me. And I'm digging the notes on the plan about the lighting packages.
  11. ^EXACTLY! And misguided individuals all over the internet say that Millennium Force isn't any good despite its great height and length. However, Schwarzkopf fanboys would make love to a shuttle loop if they could. Stats mean sh!t when it comes to coasters.
  12. ^Stats are for commercials and marketing, they rarely have anything to do with ride quality. And at this point, all we have is a couple numbers that could be the height and drop, and a bird's eye view of the layout. Maverick's 100 foot drop is better than many drops that are 50-60 feet taller than that. Ride length is only a great stat when a ride can keep up its intensity and momentum throughout the entire ride. A ride can be a mile long and crawl into the brakes, and then people complain about it having a crappy ending. A ride can be short like Storm Runner and kick ass the entire time, and I'm fine with that. I think ride length is probably the most overrated stat about coasters, just ahead of height and drop stats. Nobody can honestly tell the difference between a 196' drop and a 200' drop, or a 205' drop. At the end of the day, they can do what Kings Island did with Diamondback and market it as the tallest coaster in the park. Not many regular people are going to go to more than one or two parks in the entire year, and if they see this new attraction is the tallest in the park, that's exciting enough for them. I do have a great idea though, but this will probably escape a large majority of people. How about we wait until we ride the actual ride before calling it a disappointment? People were VERY bitchy about 305's layout when it was released, and now fanboys everywhere are messing up their underoos at the very thought of the ride. EDIT: And just to add on, a park can only work with the space it has. It's not as simple as just building it over to the golf course or buying more land. There's all kinds of hoops to jump through to do crap like that, and 99% of the time it's not worth the time or money. They're going to build the best possible attraction they can with the space and resources they have. This isn't Roller Coaster Tycoon, this is real life. It's a tad more complicated.
  13. ^Not surprising if it's true, one of the perks of working for parks.
  14. Looks as if this won't have any inversions, the GP will hate it!
  15. I guess that's true, given that they've had one new coaster built in the last 8 seasons.
  16. ^And whether or not it's a family coaster won't matter then, either.
  17. ^Technically, Maverick was completely finished and testing well before opening day. They figured out a snafu before they let any guests on it and had the issue fixed and ready to go in just over two weeks. I think they deserved to be commended for how well they handled a pretty crappy situation. The Shoot the Rapids situation just sucked, can't really fault anyone but manufacturers on that one. And with Windseeker, it's not like any of them have opened yet, so it's probably a combination of a lot of things. Regardless, the park never advertised that it would be ready on opening day, so there's no egg on their face with this one. I mean look at it this way, it could have taken them over a year to construct a used Roller Skater, and they could have advertised that Windseeker was opening in May, only to have to be like, "whoops, lol, jk" and redo all the ads to say June.
  18. ^There's no reasoning with people like that, so I don't even try anymore. It's like when the GP is dead set on the fact that there's a 600 foot roller coaster somewhere that goes 300 mph, you just can't put some sense into their brains.
  19. Oh to have been a fly in the wall for that phone conversation.
  20. ^All construction projects are not created equally, just chill dude. Yeesh.
  21. ^I agree. The more I heard about the project in recent weeks, the less it sounded like something Intamin would make. Regardless, Busch hasn't let me down yet, so we'll see how this turns out.
