California Advice
CreditCrazy replied to coasterfreak101's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have heard from some trip reports that X2 does not open at park opening sometimes, but in all my experiences I've gone straight there, waited a couple minutes for the ride to finish testing and gotten right on. I would highly suggest running to the ride anyway. Even if for some reason the ride does open late and you have to wait 30 minutes, that's still a lot shorter than you will wait for the ride at any other time during the day. -

Usually parks aren't too bad around this time. It definitely isn't like the off-season, but you should still be able to get everything in at the parks you're going to. First off, it's very important that you get to each of the parks at opening. At Disneyland, I always like to head left first and hit Indiana Jones and Splash Mountain before lines get long. Then on my way to the other side of the park, I ride Thunder Mountain, then get a fast pass for Space Mountain and ride Matterhorn. By that time, DCA is usually about to open, so I go over there and go straight to the back and hit Toy Story Mania and California Screamin'. Then stick around DCA for a while and get fast passes for Grizzly River Rapids and ToT. Remember that fast passes are your friend! If you plan things right, you can get about 20 during the day. I've gone to Disneyland on very crowded summer days and never waited more than 20 minutes because of them. Never forget about them, and while in lines/on rides, always plan to go get another one before your next ride. Be careful not to get one with a really long time for you to ride, because you can't get a fast pass while the time still isn't up, and if it's 3 PM and you get a fast pass for say Space Mountain that you can't ride until 8 PM, you can't get another fast pass for five hours. If that was too confusing I'm sure someone else on here can explain the system much better. At Knott's, I like to go to Ghostrider first. Sometimes the Boardwalk doesn't open with the park (I think it does in the summer though), but Ghostrider usually gets the longest waits anyway and runs smoothest at the beginning of the day. At SFMM, sprint to X2, then Tatsu, then head over to Terminator and Deja Vu. Haven't been to Universal, so any information on that is useful for me too. Unless you like to go through parks very slowly and relaxed, you don't really need a second day at SFMM. If you need to finish some things up though, I would suggest combining a second half-day at the park with some sight-seeing (or even Universal as I've heard there is not much to keep busy with). -
Wow! Talk about nice zoom.

Amazing pictures. Where did you get the one of Firehawk?

I've also noticed that (for a while now). I think it has been there ever since my first ride on Riddler's in June 08'...but I've never seen a photo booth for the ride. That's great that the ride ops now clap when you get back to the station. I remember everyone did that at Cedar Point and it definitely gave the park more positive energy.

1. X2 2. Goliath 3. Batman The Ride 4. Terminator Salvation The Ride 5. Ninja 6. Viper 7. Riddler’s Revenge 8. Tatsu 9. Déjà vu 10. Scream! 11. Gold Rusher 12. Superman The Escape 13. Revolution 14. Colossus If it means anything, I rank Canyon Blaster ahead of Colossus. Basically, X2 completely beats everything at the park for me. I'll wait anything for that ride and I make sure I ride it at least a couple times every visit. Goliath, Batman and Terminator are the other really good rides at the park imo. I enjoy them all and won't go to SFMM without them. Ninja and Viper are enjoyable rides. Riddler's, Tatsu, Deja Vu and Scream all full under the "okay ride, but I'd rather skip" category. They all make me sick, but I rate them decently because I loved them when I first rode them, and I know I would like them if I didn't have motion sickness. Besides, they have their moments (Riddler's hang time, Tatsu's lift, Deja's lift and Scream's zero g). Gold Rusher is a really fun ride (especially at night) that keeps moving up on my list. And while I do enjoy it more than a few others on my list (like the above four) I rank it below them, because overall, the above are better rides. Superman is the most pointless ride in the park, but it doesn't beat me up or make me sick...therefore it sits here. And Colossus is one of my least favorite coasters, and my all time least favorite woodie.

Here's a fun little game from another site... Look at the Steel and Wood results: Steel - http://www.ushsho.com/detailedsteelrollercoasterpollresults2009.htm Wood - http://www.ushsho.com/detailedwoodrollercoasterpollresults2009.htm And see how "good" your count is. 30 points for every coaster you've ridden in the Top 5. 20 points for every coaster you've ridden in the Top 10. 10 points for every coaster you've ridden in the Top 20. 5 points for every coaster you've ridden in the Top 30. 1 point for every coaster you've ridden in the Top 50. Then add the Steel and Wood up for your total. Mine: Steel: Diamondback – 30 Millennium Force – 20 Maverick – 10 Phantom’s Revenge – 5 Top Thrill Dragster – 1 Tatsu – 1 Xcelerator – 1 X2 – 1 Raptor – 1 Total: 70 Wood: Voyage – 30 Raven – 10 Terminator Salvation – 5 Legend – 1 Giant Dipper – 1 Thunderbolt – 1 Total: 48 Overall: 118 -
Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

Wow. The ride looks massive there. I think I've come to the conclusion that the OTSR's won't really hurt the ride. You'll still get air-time and the turns are large and drawn-out enough that you will just glide through them. -
I went to WCB and Termination Day last year and I'm planning on going to both days this year, but my question is this: Since I'm vegetarian, I have to pay extra money (two meals) during the day. The vegetarian options in the meals provided (which is just side dishes) is not enough to hold me over on such long days. Have you considered reducing the price and making the necklace we wear reflect no meal entry?

Mitch Hawker's Coaster Poll 2009!
CreditCrazy replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
According to the Poll, my Top 10 Steel should like this: 1. Diamondback 2. Millennium Force 3. Maverick 4. Phantom’s Revenge 5. Top Thrill Dragster 6. Tatsu 7. Xcelerator 8. X2 9. Raptor 10. Batman The Ride ...But it really looks like this: 1. Millennium Force - #10 2. Maverick - #17 3. X2 - #44 4. Goliath (SFMM) - #63 5. Phantom’s Revenge - #25 6. Xcelerator - #38 7. Diamondback - #4 8. Magnum XL-200 - #69 9. Top Thrill Dragster - #31 10. Medusa - #64 Pretty different considering Tatsu barely makes my Top 50 and Goliath, Magnum and Medusa aren't there. Shows how underrated those rides are (imo). -

^ Exactly. Millennium Force is my favorite coaster; it definitely doesn't have ejector air, but I'm okay with that. It just isn't that type of coaster. -

Wow, I was sure X2 would move up from #28 last year, especially because of the West Coast Trip, but I guess it fell to #44!?!?!? I'm a little annoyed that so many B&M Hypers are up top and ahead of a lot of other good coasters (Diamondback, Behemoth, Canadian Goliath, Southern Goliath, Apollo's Chariot and Nitro are all in the Top 20...that's more than half of them.) Some other "fun" coasters I really enjoy are ranked pretty low (CA BTMR, Matterhorn, Montezooma's Revenge, Colossus The Fire Dragon, H2 Vertical Velocity, Gemini, Ninja, SFMM Viper, Gold Rusher, Adventure Express, etc...) but I guess I can understand most of those. -
Coasters at Night
CreditCrazy replied to Erik Johnson's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Besides Beast, I'd have to say my Top 5 are X2, Terminator, Roar, Millennium Force, and Maverick. I really would have liked to ride Holiday World's woodies at night, but the park closed early the day I went. Same with Kennywood, except that was because I had limited time at the park. -
I disagree. From what I've seen, Haunted Mansion and ToT's pre shows shut everyone up. They are quick and to the point. Terminator's, on the other hand, is basically a back-and-fourth conversation between the two character's. No one really pays attention to it and everyone just talks...and screams. It's really sad, the first time I saw the pre-show I was pretty impressed, but everyone is just ignoring it, and you feel even worse when you find out there are empty trains going around.
