  1. ^ Geee I completely forgot that 2011 is the big year, I don't know why I was thinking 2010 was a major coaster year. Thanks for putting me back in line Eric!! Brandon
  2. I'm glad to see Deja Vu running well! Looks like a good night at the park, thanks for the pictures. This is off topic but I was thinkin about this today, when do we normally start seeing grade stakes at the park for new attractions? I can't for the life of me remember when we started seeing them for tatsu and I really don't remember seeing them for terminator. I would imagine if the ride is of any good size we should be seeing something soon.
  3. Well to my understanding most of the building anywhere close to the park itself is going to be commercial, all of the residential is going to be further away, I'm sure far enough away where you won't hear any park noise.
  4. Well they are going to do the project in stages, or phases as we call them. But yea it's going to be one of the largest projects in California history.
  5. ^ As I had said a page or two ago, Magic Mountain Prkwy will be extended in the future and im sure it will be widened all the way down past Magic Mountain. Newhall Land and Farm own all the land around Magic Mountain, and as most people know that Lennar Homes owns Newhall Land and Farm. There is a "master plan" to build comercial and residential all around and behind Magic Mountain, and the plan as of a few months ago was to build upwards of 21,000 homes and create enough comercial to produce upwards of about 19,000 jobs. The project was supposed to start early 2009 but due to the lackluster sales of homes at the other Lennar communitys in town (West Hills, River Village, and one other but cant think of the name right now) the project was put on hold. To my understanding, all the investors who provide funding to Lennars projects pulled out cause of fears of the economy. The last phase of the West Hills project was stopped about halfway through. The company I work for does all the heavy earthwork for Lennar and we showed up to work one day and they had pretty much just locked the gate on us! So hopefully the big Newhall Ranch project around Magic Mountain will start in the next year so I can get back to work over there soon, but as of now there are still some projects that need to be finished before they plan to break ground over there. But once they do break ground the project is going to take upwards of 10 years just for the rough grade dirt work, or so thats what the estimators at my company expect. Hope this gives some insight to the future!!
  6. Who is the ride manufacturer for the space mountains? And is the new track made by the same as the original?
  7. The game looks great, looks like it really takes you back to the roots of gaming with the 2d graphics and the side scrolling gameplay. Looks like it will be a big hit Robb!! Congrats!!
  8. Well considering that freeway on/offramp construction is very tedious, and the company handling the project (I won't name the company out of respect) is, in my opinion, horribly unorganized and lost, it may take another year to complete. I'm not too sure what the extent of the remodel was but I can tell you anytime you have to work on busy public roads it is a very drawn out process.
  9. All of the land around SFMM is owned by Newhall Land And Farm. The company I work for does a lot of earthwork for them and as of a couple months ago, the master planned community of Newhall Ranch is still going to happen. Right next to X2 on magic mountain parkway there is a sign that reads "Road to be extended in future". There is planned to be quite a bit of comercial building around the park and then further behind the park all the way to the 126 is gonna be residential mixed with commercial. The whole planned community is supposed to create upwards of 21000 homes and about 19000 jobs when all is said and done. We were supposed to break ground on the project early this year but because of the economy and slot of unsold homes on lennars other projects in town the project has been postponed. My company was actually stopped halfway through the earthwork on the West Hills project because of lennar not selling enough homes.
  10. Good God who thinks this crap up!?
  11. Maybe if they found a couple big sponserships for the Metro I could see them reopening it while getting some of the costs covered. Instead of the plain colored stripes on the trains, they could cover them and advertise with those huge graphics decals you see on big SUV's. They could Coca Cola logo the entire train, for example. If they installed flatscreens like they've been doing on a lot of their rides, they could also advertise for more revenue and inform guests of park information while on the Metro. Six Flags seems to be willing to spend money in areas that don't always offer high returns (Thomas Towns, Wiggle Worlds) and with the friendlier park attitudes they have been maintaining at Magic Mountain, a transport ride would be icing on the cake for the park. Its nice when families can bring the stroller on the ride and sit down, even the older crowds enjoy a break from walking to relax on a tour of the park. I think the guest satisfaction would outweigh the costs if you do it right. Very good points, and your right they have been spending more money on stuff such as Thomas town, and wiggles world, however I think those will offer much higher return on investment because areas like that make the park a family destination where as metro just moves people from one area to another. And I don't think that Thomas Town cost anywhere near 12 million, so it makes sense that a kiddie land would be a much smarter investment than a revamp of an existing transport ride that isn't marketable. Who knows, in another 5 to 10 years they will have extra resorces to make it happen. And plus it's not on the SFMM wikipedia page so we know FOR SURE it won't happen!
  12. Good pictures, the park is looking really good.
  13. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see some form of transport in the park like metro or even a train that runs the perimeter, I just don't see them spending that kind of investment when it's not going to bring the crowds like a new coaster will. Maybe in the future when the park is a lot more profitable it will happen but that's still a few years away at least.
  14. Geeez I couldn't even imagine how awful that would taste. Red bull and cola are two things that should never be mixed! And why would you even want to get used to it? If fecal matter was branded by red bull would you get used to the taste of that just for the sake of fake energy?
  15. I really just don't see Magic Mountain spending any significant money on revamping a transport ride (metro) or installing a new one. It just doesn't seem like a smart move buisness wise.
  16. Haha, I was thinking to myself, "I've never heard of a Caterpillar j-5000 power loader before?" So I then googled it and realized what it was from! In my line of work a bobcat is a joke, they are really handy if your doing large landscaping jobs, but when your doing mass earth moving projects then you use the big boys like a CAT 5130B mine excavator. Or a fleet of twelve CAT 657E scrapers. One of our recent projects was a 12 million cubic yard housing projects in the Santa Clarita area, right at the intersection of newhall ranch rd, and boquet canyon rd.
  17. Wow, I must have done this the right way. Instead of paying someone to operate BIG machinery, I get paid to do it!! And let me tell you, I really enjoy operating equipment, having so much power at your fingertips is quite fun. It is actually a very difficult job at times and can be very nerve racking as well.
  18. Well when it comes to texting on a cell phone, I can see why people use the "txt talk" because it's quick and easy, but it just let's us become that much more lazy as a society. My wife does it and it drives me crazy because it is very difficult to "hear" her tone of voice. That can be very bad!
  19. They take the trains offsite to perform work on them? I always thought that they were refurbished onsite.
  20. I think it's easy to overlook the good in employees but when it comes to the bad we as customers notice all of it. Now I can assure you that there ARE bad seeds at SFMM, but there are bad seeds everywhere we go. I remember when going to the mountain and not getting a friendly greeting from one employee all day long, not even at the front gate. Magic Mountain has improved leaps and bounds, and it's all because of the management. It's hard enough to get a fast food joint full of employees on the right track let alone a park full of hundreds of park employees. And as others have said before here, if you have a problem at the park let guest relations know, it let's management know where those bad seeds are! As far as terminator getting vandalized, that's just a part of life, you will never stop those things from happening. The only thing you can do about it is be quick to repair/fix/clean it up. Management knows this and I'm sure knows about any vandalism that happens before we can post about it here.
  21. Has anyone else thought that maybe scream will get a makeover? Management has said that scream is on their to do list. I know they said they are going to get a new coaster but I wonder if that is also going to happen next year? That ride badly needs theming and landscaping as we all know and with how well terminators themeing came out I think six flags could really do something great with scream, maybe a few tunnels And excavate around the supports and fill with water and some sweet light effects. That would be pretty sweet!
  22. I agree that SoCal should have been the first place to get a Tony Hawk coaster, however in my opinion I would like to see something more along the lines of an intamin hydro launch, or even something like Maverick. To me that would be a good addition. But I see why adding a Tony Hawk would be smart, it's cost effective, family friendly, and doesn't take up a lot of land.
  23. Yea I'd imagine intamin wouldn't keep a stock of expensive parts, or even parts that are not common to break. Now granted I don't know what has failed on any of these rides but I could see intamin manufacturing certain parts of coasters on an as needed basis, which would obviously delay the repair considerbly.
  24. Well no matter how you look at it, you are going to hit some traffic no matter what freeways you take, so as mentioned before, just take the 5 north all the way. And start your drive around 8 or 9am if possible so you will miss most of the morning commute and miss most of the lunch rush.
  25. I think there is plenty of room for future expansions all throughout the park. Look at tatsu, it was built over the top of revolution, I think the area over by log jammer could fit something if they were creative. The point I'm trying to make is that as long as there is room for a station and a queue then the rest can be built over and around any buildings or rides. That opens up a lot of opportunities!
