ULTIMATE THRILL RIDER
ethans_dad06 replied to ericmichaellucas's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It also appears that he has handles coming up from his skates to hold onto with his hands. I think that would be super fun, as long as you can hold on tight! -

Also you have to remember that these track sections are being shipped in containers, and those containers can't fit a track with an extreme curve in it I would imagine. -
Great news from the Dr. today!
ethans_dad06 replied to ethans_dad06's topic in Random, Random, Random
Thanks guys, I'm super excited! I have two young boys (my oldest turned 3 on June 30th, and my youngest turns 2 in December) but this is gonna be something else. I need to start reading the baby books again to fresh up on newborns again! -
Well, the wifey went to the Dr today after finding out she was was pregnant with our third child! Yay!! While doing a routine ultrasound we heard the Dr say "oh wow!" the wife became a little concerned at that point, then the Dr said "I think I see TWO sacs!!". For those of you who don't know about pregnancies, the sac is what the baby develops in. If there are two sacs that means TWINS!!! At this point, the shock factor is still in affect, and as you can guess, a few skipped heart beats! After a few minutes the joy really started kicking in and one of the greatest feelings I've ever experienced came about. I've never thought twins could happen to me (even though it runs in my wides family) but here I am, looking at an ultra sound with twins! Well if anyone has any advice for me please let me know as I have not a clue as to how to raise twins, but am super excited to make my trek down this road!

I think where thrill shot is would be a good location because of its size, however I dont think it should go there. I think the perfect place for a drop tower would be on the mountain but excavate down about 30 to 40 feet so your droping down into a hole. The mountains hight would give it an illusion its taller than what it really is and the drop down into a hole would be a very cool effect! -Brandon

Yea, they are basicaly making a bridge under the lift track so the cut down on the amount of vertical supports needed. They might be doing that so the can save on costs, cause if the have less vertical supports that means less footers, or they could be doing it to create the illusion of nothing really supporting the lift hill. Either way I think it is going to be a very nice looking coaster with the truss under the lift hill. -
Yea it seems like a gps system would be very helpful to have, and also have a visual of all trains in the train cabins so the driver can visualy see where other trains are. Where as I don't think they need to computer control the trains, I don't see anything wrong with an updating of the current system to make the safest transit system in the world even safer.

I'm just pointing out the obvious: Humans suck at operating machines. Computers do it better! If you think I'm dancing on graves, you've figured me wrong. Bring on Skynet! First of all, humans do not suck at operating machines. I am a heavy equipment operator by trade and can tell you that computers can NEVER be as safe as humans because computers can't think for their own when an unexpected hazard occurs, but humans can. I can't remeber how many times I've been in a situation where I had to make life or death decisions running equipment because the unexpected happened and I assure you a computer cannot make those types of decisions the way a human can. And I never said you were dancing on graves, but when you start making assumptions about situations and people that you couldn't pretend to know, it just leads me to believe that you think the person operating the monorail is neglegent and careless, which obviously is not the case here. If I was related to or a friend of the young man who tragically died in this accident, I would be very offended by your remarks.
-
If you didn't notice there were NO reports whatsoever of the driver sending text messages when the crash happened. You know I think that is a pretty crappy assumption when you have not a clue what really happened. Have some respect for the cast member and the family of the cast member who lost his life in this horrible accident.

I would love to be able to go out and watch tornados from my front porch, but here in southern California it's hard to do that, we just sit here and wait for the ground to shake! Back on topic though, I'm sure the park was fine along with all the people in the area, or I'm sure the news would have surfaced here by now. -
^ If your willing to give it a try then force yourself to ride X2 it is the most intimidating coaster there and has the longest line in the park too. If you are going to ride it then get to the park before opening and run for X2 if not then try everything else first and save X2 for the last ride of the night and just deal with the line. Tatsu's line gets pretty long too so that's another line you should hit early or late.

SFMM in November information needed
ethans_dad06 replied to alomar's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yea I think the coke can deal is the way to go but make sure you get the can and save them now cause I think the cans are only available with the deal till the end of summer. The deal is good through the end of the year I believe but they only print the deal on the can for so long. The park usualy doesn't close more than one coaster at a time for rehab even in the off season. Now if they have a ride that is currently down for rehab and one breaks down they will obviously have more than one down but that is beyond their control. I'm not sure how acurate this is but I do remember hearing that Ninja and DejaVu can't run in cold temperatures but like I said I don't know this for sure so you might want to do some research. The twicket deal I think is a long shot because the last time I was there I don't recall it being available, or I should say I didn't see any signs there about it, but I do remember you had to pay full price for the first day, so if you do use the coke can deal the twicket would not be available to you. -
It would be nice to see a major record breaker at the park but I'm sure it won't happen. I'm hoping for an intamin launch coaster like ispeed or even something like maverick. As far as scream goes, I like the idea that someone mentioned a while back of renaming it to leviathan and adding water features to it. Then with Goliath and Colossus there they could then call that area of the park the "Land of the Giants". It would fit very well and adds themeing to Scream. And in the same year they could add the drop ride that's been rumored.

The most efficient way to launch.
ethans_dad06 replied to SKULLY's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Other factors are not efficiency... What you are referring to with respect to downtime/maintenance is reliability. What others have been referring to with respect to how fast it can accelerate things is performance. You could drive a gas guzzling SUV, it may be reliable for you on a day to day basis, but it certainly isn't efficient is it? What about valves, compressors, turbines, retracting brake fins, winch drums, launch sleds etc? My mistake I meant to say that magnetic launches have virtually no moving parts. (going back to edit my post now) -
I know when a Magic Mountain was on the "chopping block" a couple years ago there were so many people that went so they could "go one last time" before they closed. And I have heard quite a few people say the same thing since they have filled for chapter 11. I highly doubt though that it would be in their best interest to announce their new attraction as soon as possible. A new coaster announcement will not make the headlines the same way chapter 11 does so the news will not spread to the masses, just us coaster geeks

ethans_dad06 replied to alomar's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well as far as the days you should be ok on Saturday but Friday might be a problem. In the past they closed for the "off season" after fright fest. I'm not sure what dates your planing on but in the off season they are open only in Saturdays Sundays and holidays. I would check their website for the operating hours. Now as far as which rides will be opened and closed you can try calling the park to see if they might know in advance which rides you can expect closed. The online deal is pretty sweet but look into the details cause there was a thread on here talking about a $5 dollar fee to purchase online so you might want to go to the market and get some coke because their cans have a buy one get one free deal on them. The crowds shouldn't be to bad either because school is in session in early November and the weather should be great as well. The twicket deal I have no idea about. Hope this helps! Anything else has probably been covered here in the forums so just do a search and good luck! -

Is it just me or does that double spine look beefy or what? I still think I prefer the box track but it should be interesting to see this monster all put together! I might just change my mind then!
