Absolutely don't miss Knotts Berry Farm when you'll be so close.

I would also think that there's the possibility that the channels and guides in which the chain run could have been been damaged when the chain failed, or could have been worn / damaged and contributed to the failure of the chain. The chain itself is part of a system. All the parts of that system have to be in proper working order or you could risk a premature failure of the new chain. Not that I know for certain that was the case, but it certainly seems reasonable. Although that may not account for the amount of time the ride was down, I would rather have it repaired completely so that the new parts have a fighting chance of lasting for their designed service life.

Exactly. It would be like if someone came along and said to me "Hey, I see you have a totally average 2013 Toyota Corolla that seems to be operating just fine and nothing is really wrong with it. Would you rather have this brand new BMW 7-Series instead?" Nobody in their right minds would ever say no to that. Almost exactly the same analogy I thought of.

On some rides. Not many though. The industry as a whole is moving towards more and more automation for a variety of reasons. And most of those that you can control (in the U.S.) they're still ran the same every cycle. Standard Operating Procedures and all that fun stuff. Although it's been posted here before, its relevance to this discussion makes it worthy of posting again.
