Ive been watching reported Lex Luthor times and most days it's been hovering around 30-45mins. You should be in good shape today being that it's a Tuesday. I would start with X2 then go to Tatsu and then go to Lex Luthor. Those are your longest potential lines in that order, but unless there's some event or something today I don't think even X2 will get a line much more than an hour at it's peak today.

our first day is the half day. so we want to decide which park has more so we can spread it out. The only thing at DCA that can really eat up your day is Radiator Springs Racers. I've heard 2-3.5hr wait in standby line and ~60min wait in the morning for fastpass which usually sells out by 8am. If you can do single rider on RSR, then I would do DCA for the half day and DL for the full day - especially if you have younger people with you and/or plan on seeing all (or as much as possible) of DL. EDIT: Case in point, at the moment per MouseWait RSR is showing 120 (the highest it goes to, so it could be more), FastPass was sold out by 9:20 (and this is a Monday) and the single rider line is only 25 minutes.

Probably pretty cliché around these parts, but I wanted to pick my favorite moment from my favorite coaster - the face first drop on X/X2.

If you shut it down, you don't care about their happiness. If you don't shut it down, you don't care about their safety. People who want to complain will complain, and with roller coasters some people are looking for excuses to not ride other than "I'm afraid". Saying "They just throw people on the unsafe ride to make a buck" makes you sound tougher than "I don't want to ride that because it scares me".

That was my assumption too, but they've been pretty clear about saying it was not a mechanical issue of any kind and I would think launcher malfunction would be considered a mechanical issue. I don't know anything about the control panel, I just can't think of anything else it could be assuming they're telling the truth, and I assume that they are.

One more thing to add on the Superman incident..my local news here in Sacramento interviewed the Vallejo Fire dept batallion chief who said they had actually trained for this exact situation in case it happened, don't know if that was the park's idea or the fire dept took it upon themselves. There was no wind, and if there was no mechanical issues, that pretty much only leaves operator error doesn't it?

Now that's the smartest thing you've said yet. I'm the same way - as long as it's not egregiously filthy where I'm literally tripping over trash and/or the que smells, at SFDK or SFMM (The only two thrill parks I go to) I don't even notice. At Disneyland, Universal, and Knotts it's a different story..since they're not thrill orientated I have a higher standard for how the park looks since I spend more time noticing it. To quickly touch on another point you made earlier about DLR's admission price yeah it's pretty hefty but I would think it does cost substantially more to run that park on a daily basis than it does SFMM. (If I'm wrong let me know, it seems that way to me) Without too much trouble you can get DLR 1-day park hopper tickets from third party sources for $50-60. Boy isn't that the truth! I would love to have Tatsu, X2, Scream, RR or Apocalypse at SFoT. If I am lucky I can make it to ride those once a year at WCB. Yeah it surprises me a bit when some people say there are no world class coasters at SFMM. I can understand if they're not your favorite, but Tatsu is from what I've read pretty much widely considered one of the best if not the best flying coaster, and X/X2 is one of only three coasters like it in the entire world. Maybe it's just a "grass is always greener on the other side" kind of thing where coasters elsewhere can seem better just because they're new/different/far away.

Very cool. Giant Dipper is the only woodie I thoroughly enjoy, by far my favorite (No, never ridden El Toro, want to). Very sad to see Hurricane go I was there on opening day in 1992..I am definitely going to need to take a trip to the Boardwalk between now and then to ride that baby one last time. It's a simple looking coaster but I love that half twist drop in the middle, I find it extremely enjoyable. I'm excited at the prospect of a new coaster at SCBB though, hopefully something a bit more modern.

A lot of thrill rides are hard on tall people. Have you ridden the hammerhead? My 6'3" dad complained that it was the most uncomfortable thing he'd ever ridden, and if I was a couple inches taller it probably would have been for me (I'm 6'0") too. Who thought of the one-size-fits-all automatic OTSR's?

You're welcome. Those slides sat in a closet for 50 years before I decided to scan and restore them, there's probably a lot more out there like 'em that no one has taken the time to digitize.
