I pick Kong by a longshot, but I'm probably the only one who would. Rough rides don't bother me and I'm a sucker for corkscrews. I'd rank em all: Medusa, SUF, V2, Kong, Boomerang, Roar I'm also the one guy (Yep, it's me, I'm that one guy) who loved Deja Vu at SFMM. Deja Vu >>> Boomerang in my opinion.

When you only have 7 coasters and 2 of them are down that's a pretty bad day alright. Might be old news cause I was watching a recording a couple months old but saw a SFDK commercial that said "Ride world class coasters" and appeared to show video of Goliath at SFMM..I lol'd a bit, especially when at first I thought it was Kong before I went back and paused it

And side note Google maps directions have gotten a lot better recently..below the duration now it says (XX minutes in current traffic) using current live traffic data, so if you check it on the day/time youll be going, you can get a pretty good idea. (But thats just in general..asking someone local is always best)

Agree wholeheartedly. I rode it about a year ago and was blown away by how much better it was riding than in the past, and when it's riding like that yes it is easily the best woodie in California and probably the west coast. Amazing for a woodie that was built in freakin' 1924! I'm really really hoping to be able to make it down there before 9/3 to bid farewell to Hurricane and I will certainly be taking a few rides on the Dipper as well if I can.

Most unique/noteworthy roller coasters
singemfrc replied to thenumerator's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well Formula Rossi is pretty new, and that thing in my opinion is barely more than a speed record with wheels..I'd much rather ride KK or TTD any day. On topic I agree that the 4D coasters are noteworthy since there's very few of them and they kind of have a personality of their own...there's an interesting storyline to it as well with X being Arrow's last coaster and having so much trouble with maintenance and staying operational, and then after Eejanaika being built in Japan by S&S Arrow in 2006, X was redone with new more reliable trains, showing that the design isn't inherently flawed (though it is usually prohibitively expensive to build). Also second the notion of including Outlaw Run, that is a significantly ground breaking coaster worthy of much discussion. The most common reaction I've gotten from non enthusiasts Ive showed the photos to is "thats impossible". That thought occurred to me too! -
You're right it is pretty random, I've never been able to figure it out, and yeah I don't know why they don't make Tatsu a priority like they've done with X2, those two rides should always have 4 ops even at the expense of other rides if necessary, and in my humble opinion Tatsu should almost always be running both stations..that baffles me so much I wonder if there isn't some technical reason they don't do that more often (or is it lack of staffing/lack of funds for additional staff?)... if you've got a 2 hour line, open another lane...please?

Stand-Up Coasters
singemfrc replied to 11slataus's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
In my experience most of the time when people are complaining about uncomfortable restraints it's because they're not using them correctly..you are right, and someone earlier said it even better. On most coasters I've found OTSR's are most comfortable when fit tightly (Makes a huge difference on Kong at SFDK and used to make a HUGE difference on the old X trains)..a lot of people (including my family members) assume that tighter restraints are uncomfortable and want to leave "room to move" but they just end up getting shaken around. On standups the bicycle seat is exactly the opposite..for some reason people seem to always want to pull that thing up as far as it goes, but its best if you leave a little slack on that one for reasons that should be obvious, at least to male riders. I know there's exceptions to every rule, some rides are rough no matter what, and some people are uncomfortable just due to body shape/size not being what the restraint designers had in mind, Ive just found the above to make for your best odds of the best ride for most people. -
Stand-Up Coasters

Suspended coasters I get, but what is wrong with flying coasters? There aren't very many in the US, but I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with them unlike standups..Tatsu is an outstanding flyer, and it's popularity sure hasn't waned in the 6 years it's been operating. Serious question - are flying coasters significantly more expensive/difficult to build and/or maintain? 4th dimension coasters such as X2/Eejanaika/Dinoconda are my favorite but I realize the reason there's only three of them in the world is because they are ridiculously expensive to both build and maintain. Is the same true for flyers? -

Thanks, I'd love to see your photos too if you find some. -
The Flash Pass is good all day as many times as you want on all coasters (Except X2 which is $10 per line skip, and I hear LL and Green Lantern are Platinum Flash Pass Only) but on those two days I doubt you will really need it unless there's some special event. The last time I went to the park on a September weekday everything other than X2 and Tatsu were a complete walk-on the entire day. If you get there and its really busy you can always buy a flash pass at the park.
