To make this more interesting than just another bucket list thread, I'll interpret it as coasters I most want to ride that I think will also be the most difficult to get, so most of these are on the other side of the planet. 1. Starry Sky Scrapper 2. Gravity Max 3. Dinoconda 4. Expedition GeForce 5. Helix 6. Olympia Looping 7. Stingray (Giant Wheel Park/China) 8. Ultra Twister (Rusutsu Resort, Japan) 9. Leap The Dips (Middle of nowhere Altoona, PA) 10. Belmont Giant Dipper (Also not in a bigger park so I'd have to already just be in San Diego)

No, not really. Seeing as the statement from you was 'California has zero water coasters,' which was completely inaccurate in both a) the state having one two hours south and b) hydromagnetic water slides not remotely being coasters, I don't see the problem here. Is there one in San Diego? The one one in Roseville bills itself as "the only water coaster in California".

We spoke to a manager while we were there (on 4/5) who told us (we had mentioned the ride in conversation but didnt ask why it was down, she offered it) that Montezooma is just in rehab and will reopen soon, its not going away at least for now. Just like any shuttle, there's only one train so when it goes to rehab the whole ride shuts down. I know what people usually think of "park employee told me ______" but for what it's worth this wasnt a casual hire teenager, she was senior and she didn't sound like she was guessing in the slightest. Also your post doesnt really make sense. The ride is already down, if it were being dismantled, how would one get a ride in soon?

Yeah, I'd heard about GL, RR, Revolution, Viper, and Lex's single-rider lines. Where are GL's and RR's single-rider lines, though? I did some Google Street View walking through the park and I couldn't seem to find them. I presume they're in the rides' exits? Yeah they are pretty hard to find if you don't know where to look. For GL when you walk up the exitway, it's the staircase that *isnt* the one exiting riders are using. It literally leads to behind the back of the operator who is dispatching the trains, so work backwards from there if you don't see it right away. When you go up the stairs politely let the operator know you're there, remembering that they're working so try not to distract or surprise them. For RR it's even tougher, you follow the exitway around until just before you get to the lockers (if you come to the lockers or the flash pass entrance then you passed it). There's a sign on the building to your right that marks a nondescript doorway with a staircase inside that leads to the opposite side of the loading station. Unlike GL, an operator will usually notice you right away and more often than not put you on the first train.

^ Actually I'm assuming YOLO will be done with maintenance by then, so it shouldn't be too bad. Take your pick of either Yolo or X2 in the morning and whichever you don't do in the morning come back between 4 and 5 pm and the line will be minimal. If you're not using a flash pass and you aren't in a big party take advantage of single rider lines, they can make a huge difference on Green Lantern, Lex Luthor, and Riddlers and on really busy days you can also use them on Viper and Revolution (if it's open by then). The SR lines for GL and RR are really great because you literally bypass the entire queue. The SR line goes right to the dispatching ride operator who puts you in the next empty seat. With RR you can almost always walk straight onto a train without breaking stride. GL you may wait a couple minutes depending on how many uneven groups there are. Lex you can still sometimes wait 10-15 mins for, so if the line isn't longer than that it may not be worth it. Lex Luthor is definitely fun, best drop ride out there in my opinion, at least until the one at SFGAdv is open. If you get lucky a SEFK car will scream up the track while you're near the top

All except X2 and Full Throttle. X2 you can purchase rides on for $15/person/ride with your gold flash pass. Normally you can do the same for YOLO with a platinum pass, but while it's on one train they arent selling any reservations, so just run to it as soon as the park opens and get in one ride before it's a 60 min wait.

Yes, they are. If you would like to see an example of why, watch the TPR video. Both the airtime on the big launch and the slow inversion with hangtime make it much more likely that things could fall out of your hand or pocket than on medusa, where there is no hang time and little airtime. Medusa's inversions mostly have positive Gs which will keep things down rather than throw them out unless that something is in your hand and you drop it.

Green Lantern doesn't typically do anything, it's a crap shoot depending on the weight distribution of the car. If it's well balanced, you get a smooth ride with no flips. If you get two fat guys on one side and one skinny guy and an empty seat on the other side, it's gonna rip your face off and flip you all the way down (my favorite). If you're going soon, hit YOLOCoaster first because it's only running 1 car which means no flash pass (theyre not even selling reservations to platinum pass holders) and the wait is 60+ mins all day. Hit that first and then come back to X2 around 4-5pm when the line will inevitably be down to 15 mins or less. X2's line always fades at the end of the day because so many people do it first and because MM usually has some of their most efficient ride ops running it. I've never personally witnessed bad ops on X2, I can't say that for any other ride at the park.

Yeah I liked Hurricane a lot too but I do think Undertow has proven to be a better ride. It's definitely better than Roar or Boomerang, that's not even close. Sundays in Spring are usually not too bad for crowds. I went on a Sunday two weeks ago and it was only about 10-15 min waits for Undertow or Dipper. Every once in a while if you can go on short notice SCBB will post on their Facebook that they are unexpectedly running all rides on an off day, those would be even better but you don't know ahead of time when they happen. The discounted evening wristband I believe is a summer only promotion usually, it probably won't be going for a few months yet. I think that runs along side the pepsi can promotion if they still do that.

Yeah saying X2 "is a terrible ride" is going too far in my opinion. It is very painful though, especially right before that last raven turn, and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it short of wearing shin guards on your calves. I still love it in spite of its roughness, but I can't ride it twice in a row. Green Lantern is definitely not for anyone of unusual size, large or small. If you are a very big guy, you're going to get a crazy ride every time you get on it because you're unbalancing the car. Ditto if you're unusually small.

I had a pretty great day at the park yesterday. The only real blemish was 1 train ops in Yolo, but that was made up for with the gold pass early entry which gave me an extra lap with no wait in the back row of the first train of the day I am appreciative towards the groupers on X2 and Yolo who accomodated our row requests since there was space available especially on Yolo given how busy it was. Yolo had 60+ waits all day due to one train ops, but the ride operators did appear to be doing a pretty good job dispatching trains as fast as they could. X2 is usually hit or miss on whether they allow you to pick your row, yesterday I had a couple friends with me who had never ridden X2 before despite many visits to SFMM due to bad luck with the ride going down every time they'd go to the park, so they wanted to make sure if they got only one lap it was in the front row. As it turned out we came back for a second lap when the line died down later and lucked out with another front row ride since no one happened to be in row one at the time. Allow me to continue giving thanks to SFMM (I know I know, crazy), although it didn't feel like X2 was any less rough as it still bruised the hell out of my calves on the second raven turn, it does look like they took advantage of the downtime caused by the chain breakage to fix the inside seats. Before the chain break a majority of the inside seats were stuck all the way down and only short people could fit easily into them. Yesterday I was for the first time in years able to ride on the inside and I looked around and saw many other inside seats accommodating taller guests. I found Namtab to actually be a bit underwhelming. I was surprised that it wasn't more disorienting and I'm not sure why. The barrel rolls were always a surprise, but the ride did for some reason seem less forceful than before. I wouldn't have thought it would be the case but it was. Sussoloc beat the living hell out of me..it felt as if couplers were loose or something (not saying this is actually the case, just what it felt like) because during the beginning of each drop the car would jerk backwards and forwards violently causing the lap bar to repeatedly kick me in the gut. I've ridden it before during Fright Fest and it wasn't near this painful. Ironically I had a perfectly balanced ride on Green Lantern with 0 flips. Boring for me, good news for the friend I was riding with. Overall mild weather and short lines except for Yolo, a very enjoyable day.

^ Right, but since CGA is the middle park, you could do SFDK, then go to the CGA hotel, then do CGA, then stay at the CGA hotel the second night, then move on to SCBB. Super 8s are usually fine, anything that is a chain is more than fine if you're just looking for "not disgusting" like I usually do.
-
I saw you're doing SFDK -> CGA -> SCBB. Of the three I would recommend staying closer to CGA, Santa Clara is easily going to have the most options and better neighborhoods. SFDK isn't really a "dawn to dusk" park like SFMM or CP can be, so I'd recommend hitting SFDK first and then driving to the hotel closer to CGA afterwards. Traffic from CGA to SCBB can be horrific too, especially on the 880. I once idled all the way there almost never touching the gas pedal because traffic was so bad, it took about 3 hours (when it should take 1), so if you're going on a weekday avoid the 880. Going a slightly longer route will likely be quicker.

Single Rider lines will save you so much time: Lex Luthor, Green Lantern, Riddler, Viper, Revolution. Whichever of X2 or Yolo that you don't do in the morning, come back around 4/4:30pm and the line is almost always dwindled down to almost nothing. (Edit: I hear Yolo is running one train, so with that in mind I'd do that one first and come back to X2 in the afternoon)
