  1. does anyone know if carowinds is doing a copperhead strike first rider auction charity benefit? (like they did on fury 325) i can't find anything on it. looks like the soonest anyone can get on the ride is for season passholder preview night on fri march 22 from 6-10pm, then the following day is the park's grand opening. will those days be crowded? any intel out there? found this article too: https://www.wcnc.com/article/entertainment/events/carowinds-announces-preview-night-for-new-roller-coaster-copperhead-strike/275-26a3217d-933f-424d-a74d-a01473dbd98c
  2. looks like a great addition to the park and a much-needed massive revamp of the entrance. just in time for ACE coaster con 2020!
  3. man, does this ride look awesome. glad to see dive machines breaking out of the mold into some new elements (loop). even that second element.....i don't know whether to call that a dive loop or a zero-g roll? and obviously that first drop looks incredible. other thoughts: -second half of the ride looks a little weak, but oh well -name really doesn't roll off the tongue well.....i kept forgetting the name of it over the course of today! i kept wanting it to call it yukon cornelius -great addition to the park -tunnel looks like a serious headchopper -definitely gonna have to make a trip up to toronto from VA -kudos to CW
  4. thanks for the info guys. i figured TC was going to open memorial day, but wanted some input before i booked a trip
  5. are they shooting for a grand opening of twisted cyclone memorial day weekend?
  6. does anyone know when twisted cyclone is going to open? any media day or opening day festivities taking place? (particularly for ACE members)
  7. interesting point.....i hope carowinds either demo's their hurler or does some wild RMC alternate version that is way different than the "paper clip" version at KD. given carowinds hurler proximity to fury, if they revamped it with something insane, imagine the 1-2 combo right there in that plaza.
  8. i was at media day as an ACE member.......late posting a TR. my main point of praise for the ride (biased since KD has been my home park my whole life) is to see the hurler re-purposed in such a terrific way. what a nice face lift for the area! agree with all previous posts about it being a great ride.....intense but not too intense. love the triple airtime hills and smoothness. can't wait to ride it in the summer once it warms up. also very happy to meet alan schilke and fred grubb at media day! #legends
  9. i saw the tix are finally on sale for the TITH event, which i am planning on buying. does anyone know typical turnout for this event? (how many people). never been to dollywood before, looks like a good time. and how confident are we that lightning rod will be open for this? pretty confident? i haven't been following construction in the off-season at all.
  10. FWIW, rcdb.com has mako listed as: 3 trains with 7 cars per train. Riders are arranged 4 across in a single row for a total of 28 riders per train http://rcdb.com/12758.htm
  11. i need to get better at reading all the way to the end of a thread before posting dumb questions
  12. I didn't even think about this until you pointed it out. This is very early on in the season to announce attractions for the following year.........I like it though. I'm still puzzled by why BGW never teased/formally announced Tempesto (which I've ridden and is better than I was expecting). As for Mako........looks decent. Standard B&M hyper, but the second half of the ride with the twisty elements and water feature make it stand out. I'm sure the theming in the station will be amazing, just like Manta's. Does anyone know if there will be a water splash? (like Diamondback, Sheikra, etc)
  13. i was at the media day and thought the ride was A+. LOTS of speed in the first half (eyes will water like crazy in the front row), and lots of airtime in the second half. new entrance plaza is terrific, very similar to the re-vamped entrance at cedar point with gatekeeper flying by overhead. in conclusion, carowinds has got a winner on their hands. i wonder how much attendance will go up this season? 10%+?
  14. that's actually a pretty good point - raptor is a terrific ride
  15. You mean since Silver Bullet in 2004 You mean since Patriot in 2006. my apologies, you're correct. forgot about those two
  16. thoughts: pros: spread out, large inversions, overall length, great first drop, good pacing, first major USA B&M invert since 97, good addition for Halloween events at the park, new wing rider style harnesses cons: could use a tunnel/subterrean feature, why not go 8+ inversions, kind of feels like Montu (at least to me), potential for ride to be a bit drawn out with slow elements/hang time neutral: where is the exact fastest point in the ride if it's not at the bottom of the first drop? why no block brake? overall: looks like a great ride follow me @bejackso06 on twitter
  17. agree; i have no idea what kind of PC ploy that was
  18. no way anything bad (read = B&M or KD fault) happened. either a freak heart attack or someone doing something dumb, ala the shockwave death incident from 1998. meh, things will be fine.
  19. absolutely can't wait to see the layout of this bad boy. with CP being the flagship park of CF, i doubt this will be a scream 2.0, which obv would be pretty unattractive right there at the front of the park. purple color track would be nice. anyone know when the announcement will be official and they'll make a website and everything? end of the summer?
  20. I was hoping coastermania would be a multi-day event again this year. The webpage for it definitely looks stripped down. Can't buy tickets in advance, can't buy hotel packages online either. Hmmmph.
  21. Dumb question: did anyone see on the Leviathan first rider auction page the actual DATE that the bidders will get to ride the coaster? That's kind of an important detail.
