The Official TPR Video Thread!
Garet replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Here's a quick little video I put together of some footage I shot in 2000. I didn't use this in the video above just because I was trying to keep things HD and bit more current. Also, this footage, IMO, isn't very good, even by my standards, too much stuff obstructing the view, etc, but here it is anyway.... The first pass of the two trains is PERFECT and you didn't catch that very often. The second pass is what I feel like you saw most of the time, where they were CLOSE, but off just a little bit... Thank you for that, that was exactly what I wanted to see. Like when I used to walk past Eagle's Fortress on every trip to Everland, or the fact when I do make it out to parks such as IOA, it always makes me a little bit sad I can't experience a ride in its original glory, I bet the view seeing the other train passing would have been great. -

Great news! They're replying to people on facebook asking about the testing with this quote: Does this mean the testing recently seen is still to do with the investigation or is it just standard we don't want to confirm anything just yet PR? -

I really liked the little facts displayed on the bottom before the POV, sometimes I skip the off-ride bits straight to the POV (sorry ) but this not only made me stick around but I learnt more than I thought I would. How long ago were the modifications made for two trains in the loops? I'd love to see a video of that. -

Goddard Group posted some very interesting concepts this week of what an overhaul of Lotte World could have looked like: https://www.facebook.com/goddardgroup?fref=ts -
I have a complaint about the ride. Why are they giving it to a park where apparently nobody wants it? People complain about how visited their park is and how long it's been between coasters. I Live in Korea where Eagle's Fortress is being replaced by a hotel (apparently) and the only roller-coaster we've had since 2008 is a Vekoma family suspended coaster, we'll happily take it instead. For those complaining about capacity, Everland is 16th in the world for attendance and since T Express can be reservation only on weekends, that only leaves a 1 train operated arrow coaster to soak up the other thrill seekers in the park and we manage just fine. Seriously I feel like the difference between "acceptable wait-times" is so low for some people because there's so much choice to spread out crowds that they expect queues to be suited to their tolerances and so the ride has to be a "people eater"(and that's with fast pass also available which a lot of Asian parks don't have). Shouldn't it be about a new experience over how many people it can take when you look at what you want in your home park? I travel Japan a lot and Korea and I never see people complain, I have a limit of how long I can wait so I don't often go but the water-parks here have wait times of almost an hour for a normal tube slide and 3 hours for newer slides or with bowls or funnels and they are happy just to have something new to try out.

Anyone know what kind of ride Gravitor is? I couldn't quite recognize it from the video. -

^It'll be a great addition to the park, I was kind of surprised there's only 2 more of these being built this year after the first two seemed quite popular but then again I thought the same thing when I saw only one free-fly/spin coming this year. Was there a building already at the park that will be used for this? -
There are other launchers which don't have the blocks at the start like Rita & Stealth but I think nearly all of them get around that by having a separate unload area as a 3rd block but as you said the train is normally already in the unload area before checking has even started on the 2nd cars restraints. Having an already unloaded train does save time though. Being the first, is Xcelerator the only one without this and Intamin just learnt from it for their future ones?

And what choices they have too. Even though it said chicken on the side, my Korean reading skills told me it was definitely chicken butts and not donkey meat that had been misplaced on the menu like my friend believed -

Superman: Krypton Coaster Superman: Ride Of Steel Superman: Ultimate Flight Green Lantern: First Flight Batman: The Ride Batman: The Dark Knight Wonder Woman: Lasso Of Truth Catwoman's Whip Lex Luthor: Drop Of Doom Superman: Escape From Krypton Are you picking up what I'm putting down? Six Flags SUCKS at naming things. "Intellectual Property: (Adjective/Verb) Noun" is the gameplan. Spinsanity is at least a step in the right direction. I still think China wins in the naming department, they almost look like they were taken from RCT.

The wait times on the Hershey app were the best that I've seen at any park. If SF can get anything close to the Hershey app, then I will be very happy. Everland & their water-park have the best apps for queue times and it also displays opening times for rides so you know when something is going to be open in only the morning or afternoon etc. I believe it's linked to the digital information boards, so whenever the rides queue time is changed, they have the display boards updated and the app will sync up. An example from Halloween (one of their busiest periods) 2 years ago, when they were doing half-day operations:

Because they made the rides so close together. Yet, walking sometimes feels like a hassle It's not nearly as bad as Busch Gardens, where it takes FOREVER to get to rides. I think Marineland in Canada is the worst for walking. A 30 minute walk to find out the ride you want to go on is closed. I do really like the rides there and the view is worth it, but I think Ocean Park in Hong Kong takes the longest time of any park to get across to some rides. -
Well, there's still a massive fan-base that would visit these lands in a heartbeat even after the phantom menace/prequel trilogy so I don't think anything would change. These lands were probably drawn up a long-time ago so I'm pretty sure the focus is on the original movies to please the current fans with bits from the new movies here and there for potential new fans.

Garet's Everland/Lotte World TR's 2014/2015

I'll end this thread soon since my Korean theme park news posts has turned this into a Garet talks to himself thread but an update to the above. I'll make a new thread when my next Everland TR is ready to seperate it away from the articles. They caught the person recording and sadly it turns out she targeted most of the water parks (and as you've probably seen from the TEA attendance report, these places see a lot of visitors). Source -

But do you really have a reason to complain? A roller-coaster isn't the answer to everything. I know it's not America but as I've said before, Korea has two of the worlds most visited parks and the number of roller-coasters across the whole country has actually gone slowly down since 2008 (I think the only roller-coaster since 2008 was a junior vekoma suspended which replaced an old looper) and the crowds still come every year. Japan isn't quite as bad but a lot of those parks go with huge gaps between new roller-coasters and they still pull in the crowds. Ocean Park is another park that went for a long time between roller-coasters and focused on other additions that still kept the attendance the same or up. -
I think if it is 3D, they might finally overtake Lotte World as the park with most 3D rides/rides with screens. Lotte World has in 3d: desperados, 4d shooting theater, dynamic theater on the 4th floor and 3d haunted house movie outside. Then you've also got the 2D shooting ride with its screens, the circle-vision Lotte's balloon ride and their version of Turtle Talk with a Beluga and now the 3 wild attraction simulators.
