  1. A couple of weeks ago, our Buffalo PBS station had a great documentary on Crystal Beach and they talked extensively of the Cyclone and Comet and showed some very good clips of them in action. In looking at the video, you have to admit, Cyclone did not look like it had much in the way of trims! Unfortunately, I never visited CB even though I lived only a couple of hours away. It sure was sad to hear of it's ultimate demise, but still glad that the Comet was rescued. Not nearly as fast and dangerous as Cyclone, I rode it last year at SFGE and thought it was a nice coaster. It would have been way cool to ride it on the shores of Lake Erie though! Wonder if there will ever be a documentary on Geauga Lake?
  2. The park initially sounded great with the announcements and looking at the construction of the Led Zeppelin coaster. I thought what a lot of other people thought - that they pushed to open it too early before they actually made it into a complete family park. One half decent B&M is not enough to draw people at $50 a pop... Like some other folks on here have said, a park near a beach with sunny, warm weather and no water rides?? WTF?? Sorry to see this park fail though...I would have loved to have seen an entire ride area dedicated to Pink Floyd! RIP - Richard Wright
  3. We were originally planning on going to SFGA this past weekend but decided agaisnt it due to the weather. We headed for Kings Island instead where the weather was a bit better and the park was open till 1:00 AM both Friday and Saturday nights. Glad that the weather held out for you, but I would have been pissed had the park closed at 4:00 being that we would have driven eight hours to get there! But then again, if you got your fill of coasters due to walk-on's, it would not have been too bad.
  4. Will they close the park from May to September when it is like 120 degrees every day?? Kinda like the parks in the North which close during the winter months?? I don't care how many misting fans they have in the coaster lines - 120 degrees is 120 degrees! I'll make sure that I put this on my bucket list of places to visit in the winter of ohhh, say...2016.
  5. We were at CP that weekend, but lucked out and left at Sunday (2:30). It was windy, but all of the rides were open. I think that TTD closed just as we were leaving. We then started to hit the wind coming home through Cleveland, but got home before the major wind storm hit. Didn't lose power here, but it took me an hour to clean up all of the branches in my backyard...and I live in Western NY! I can only imagine the poor folks on the Gulf Coast of Texas.
  6. I had two pretty good rides on Mantis in the front seat with hardly any wait. It is really not that bad as long as you ride in the front and prepare for the transitions. I actually enjoyed myself on it this year and the first drop was hardly trimmed at all! To be honest, my roughest rides this year were on Maverick. I rode it four times in various locations and got my ears boxed every time during the quick transitions. I even tried to keep my head back on the head rest and held on to the black grab bars - fail. Don't get me wrong, I still love the coaster. Just be ready for some serious headbanging once this coaster starts getting some years on it.
  7. Yeah, I figured that he must just really, REALLY love that ride, or he was doing it for charity. He did seem like a nice guy and we all got a kick out of seeing him run right out of the line and get right back on!
  8. I was also there over the weekend. We arrived on Friday night at Camper Village and after a couple of cocktails decided to pay the $20 at 10:00 for two hours of the park. A good move, as during the two hours, we did Magnum, TTD, both sides of Power Tower, Millenium and Maverick - all pretty much walk-on's. Saturday, we went to the Thirsty Pony when we thought that the rain was never going to end. It did about 1:30 and we went in the park shortly after 2:00 and it was the same - dead with very little waiting. Sunday was the same way. They had the Millenium exit gate open so you could just walk through and re-ride. We got off and got back in line and rode the back seat with no wait. Did anyone see the older guy with the 'SINGLE RIDER" shirt on?? He said that he had ridden MF 88 times that day and he was just marathoning MF all day Saturday and Sunday! We actually had ridden so many rides and coasters that we were bored (and sore) so we left around 2:30. When driving by MF, there was single rider guy standing there in line! Luckily, we made it back home before the wind got really crazy. What an awesome weekend it was! I could only wish that SFGA will be that way the weekend of the 26th!
  9. This looks GREAT...how cool is that after the park has been idle for so long? Great way to capture the "haunted hotel" theme. I really would like to see the inside of this place. I thought that the town was creepy enough when I was there in the spring, this ought to be very interesting. I would do anything to support this area and the park to help get it back up and running again. They need help desperately...I would encourage any theme park enthusiast that is close to get their butts out to Conneaut Lake this fall! I'M THERE!
  10. * 1.5 hour minimum wait for Magnum @ CP in 1989. If you got on in less than 45 minutes the first three years this coaster was open, consider yourself lucky! * 2 hour line for White Water Canyon @ CW when it opened in 1984. * 1.5 hour wait for a back seat ride on 'The Beast' @ KI in 1987. * 1 hour wait for Skyrider @ CW in 1985. * 1 hour wait for Vortex @ KI in 1987. Just to name a few.... Believe me, I have been riding coasters and going to parks for many, many years. I am sure that there are other "geezers" on this site like me that can attest - there have ALWAYS been lines and there ALWAYS will be lines...especially for the new rides.
  11. Keep the coaster, get rid of the first hill trim/make it steeper, re-track, and add a loop!
  12. Will be there this weekend...hope the weather holds out!!!! Nice report!!!!
  13. I heard that CP is going to steal all the thunder from HW with the world's tallest water ride, 'White Water Terror'. It's gonna be 175 feet tall and drop at a 54.5 degree angle at a speed of 58 MPH. Of course, it will be in Frontiertown...and will be an Intamin Hybrid Aquatrax.
  14. Yes! I have been wondering the same thing...what the hell happened to Gemini's helix at the end?? This is one of my all time fave coasters due to it being the first "big" coaster I ever rode when I was like twelve. I seem to remember the transitions at the end as being one of the best parts of the ride. Now you get thrown around like a rag doll! Interesting that the park would have been that crowded on a Tuesday, as that is usually one of the low attendance days. I think that it is great that they would extend the hours for the GP, but guess it is not good for the employees. But, isn't that what they are paid to do?? I work in manufacturing and our assembly line does not get to go home until they have finished running their scheduled production. Sometimes that can mean a ten to twelve hour day. Of course, they probably make significantly more than a ride-op would at CP.
  15. Yes, I may have to retract my previous vote (from KD - Hurler) and switch it to Wild Beast after riding this coaster a couple of weeks ago. I was starting to think that maybe I am just getting too old for some of these older wooden coasters because it seems like everytime I ride a woodie that isn't named El Toro or RFII, it totally fails and beats the living crap outta me! I did not even bother with Mighty Canadian Mind Buster. I just could not endure another crappy wooden coaster after riding Wildebeast.
  16. Yeah, but it was 3:30 PM....on a Friday...after a stressful day at work...and it is 90 degrees outside...and oh, okay I'll say it - I JUST LOVE BEER!!!!!!!
  17. Eeeeek! They closed it already? I was hoping to catch one last run on that during Labor Day weekend. I just hope to God that they are not having some Hannah Montana craptacular show that weekend. I would not be able to handle screaming teens all day. Oh, wait a minute...most theme parks have screaming teens at them no matter if there is a concert, or not! Speaking of concerts, I had the pleasure of attending CW during Latinfest this past weekend which was conveniently located right on the other side of the Behemoth line. Some of the music didn't sound too bad while we waited the hour and a half in line. Then some group came on stage with some crazy bass that shook the ground while we stood in the queue line! Oh...and line-jumping was the worst I have ever seen at a park. Luckily, my partner ratted out some teen punks that jumped the Behemoth line who were calling their buddies on their cells to come jump in line. We had at least seven people jump the line right in front of us! My partner told the woman at the front gate (yes, we were in extended roped areas well past Sledgehammer) and she kicked them all out of line! YAY for the line woman!!!!
  18. Ya know, I had never heard it called tonic until I met my partner from Massachusetts. I always thought tonic was what you drank with gin! Yeah, I always thought it was pop and then when I met folks outside of this general area, people used to look at me weird and laugh when I would say pop too! Loved the pop/soda map of the US too...great job!
  19. Why does everyone always make fun of "pop"?? I was born with pop, always called it pop, and it will always be pop, damn it!!! Must be a Lake Erie secret between Canada and the States? Apparently, no one says "pop" except for Western New Yorkers, Ontario, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and maybe Michigan! "There's a place I know in Ontario, where the sea lions kiss, so the story goes. It's amazin' shows and Friendship Cove...everyone looooooves Marineland (and pop)!!!! You can spin and dive and soar real high - a roller coaster ride, we're flyin' to the sky! Now you know what you say when you leave here today...everyone loooooves Marineland (and Sky Screamer and Topple Tower and......FRIGGIN' POP!") Believe me, this commercial gets old real quick...I almost hate Marineland because they show them on Buffalo television channels almost every commercial break!
  20. Don't you really mean: Recycled piss beer = any American beer that is not Sam Adams or a microbrew??? Wow...guess that this summer really IS flying by!!! Don't know why I was thinking that I saw on their website a while back that it was the end of August - oh well.
  21. ^Good point, but this park seems to just lack charm and the price is high for the quality you get. I looked at a lot of things and not just the size of the coasters and ride quality when I visited. Some of the things that people have pointed out with this park, including myself: * Unkempt and not very clean * Graffiti on rides * Rude attendants * Poor dispatching * Several rides closed * High admission price vs. other SF chains * Quality of rides/coasters * Overall experience * Terrible food (excluding the poutine, of course) I agree with some of the other posters that if this park was sold and perhaps had an independent owner, it could be a real gem. It just seems a bit...neglected. I think that La Ronde is in a beautiful location and I really do love Montreal...it's a great city! This park just needs some help!
  22. Cure for chemical imbalance: Prozac - Half a pill, or as needed with food. Do not evacuate the pool! Courtesy: FDA and Eli Lilly Ya just knew somebody was gonna say it!!!!!!!!!! ***Disclaimer: I am glad that no one was hurt. I really do care!***
  23. Ooooohhh...you broke the cardinal sin at Cedar Fair of taking pics in the bathroom!!!! Nice TR...I would love to visit Knotts one day, despite the fact that it often gets negative reviews. I remember when I went to Disneyland back in the early eighties and wanting to go there instead of Disney! That was back when they had the "original" Corkscrew looping coaster and the biggest coaster there was Montezuma's Revenge!!!!
  24. Me too, while I am at Canada's Wonderland...Yay for Canadian biere!!! I bought my 30 pack of Labatts Blue before this camping trip, because it is $15.99 a 30 pack! Guess I might need it for riding anything that is not named Behemoth! Maybe I better resort to some JD in a Pepsi bottle before a ride on Time Warp or Flight Deck (Metal Health-Bang your Head)! Dude, I'm almost jealous! Sucks that they are not coming to Buffalo, but I am thinking of trying to get tickets to the Musikfest show in Allentown. STP=best hard rock bad ever!!!!!
