Hello everyone! My name is Charles, I'm the full time ride supervisor at Discovery Kingdom, and today I bring YOU an update of the exciting things we have going on behind the walls at Superman. It's been a long process from design to where we are now and it's wonderfull to see the ride finally go from paper to standing tall at the park. Let's take a peak. This is what were here for right? Dirt! At the end of today this is what the site looked like from what will be the entrance. Ohhhhhh ahhhhh. Twisty? Here you can see the main entry points into the station And this is where the queue will connect to the old Zonga/Pandemonium Station Of course as we go upward, we are also working on electrical that will make the ride go zoom. Here you can clearly see that we have both a single and double spine. Inside work is moving right along. Here's the exit and and overall shot. Hope you enjoyed looking around! I'll continue to post as things progress to keep you in the loop only a few larger pieces to go! I look forward to seeing you all at the park!

We do what we can, that gum wall can spawn in one day if it's busy It only takes one person to start it. And lastly while it may LOOK like Boomerang is going away, that team member is misinformed, it's being upgraded to a super sideways spinning flying through a hoop of fire Togo. Silly Team Member, but don't tell anyone it's a secret

Hollywood Backlot tour "Special"
Noobitizer replied to Noobitizer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Haha wrong forum to argue which car is "better". My point is all cars have something, and again Park plus dope driving and excellent production = SuperBaddasseryness -
Hey guys! Hope everyone has had an awesome coaster riding season (one that isn't over yet I love me some theme parks, but I also love my car and the culture it comes with. I love my Evo IX and I came across this video today, Epic to say the least! See Ken Blocks version of a trip through the backlot at Universal Studios Hollywood

Photo TR: SkyScreamer Media Day!!!
Noobitizer replied to Coaster Palooza's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I believe its because the first ones had single seats, and we a version with tandem seats. I think..... Actually, a lot of tower rides have mirrors that let the ride ops look up at the ride without straining their neck, such as Drop Tower at CGA. Maybe Skyscreamer uses mirrors. Both St.Louis and our park use a video monitoring system to keep an eye in the sky. -

IAAPA 2010 - What should TPR Check out?

Robb, I guess ill be seeing you at IAAPA! I leave Friday for Orlando. Ill leave you a message on facebook. -Charles -
The Lynet @ Farup doesn't have its own power transformer; It has a fly-wheel generator combination and is therefore a "normal" consumer for the electricty network. That is correct. The new generation LSM coasters (no LIMS to my knowledge) are far more efficient than the older LIM and even LSM systems and do not require an independent power system.

Chad's West Coast Coaster Extravaganza - Photo TR
Noobitizer replied to chadster's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Chad, Looks like you had a goodtime in california. To bad the rain came down on your visit to The Kingdom. Taz Devil is running a great program right now with Fright Fest in full swing . Wish we had the chance to meet, maybe on your next visit. Safe Travels Charles -
So far everyone is pretty spot on. The ride has a fairly low capacity and ride design that was ahead of its time. And with any LIM/LSM type coaster, its an energy hog, typically requiring its own independent power transformer to handle the loads. However the Freeze coasters loading system has always been one of my favorite dramatic loading sequences.

Calling All Coaster Enthusiasts!
Noobitizer replied to bigjohnson51's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Name: Charles Laureano Age: 22 What is your roller coaster count? 231 What is your home park? Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, Magic Mountain, Disneyland, Knotts What is the nearest big city? San Francisco What is your occupation? Full-Time Ride Operations Supervisor at Discovery Kingdom About how many times a year do you visit a park (including your home park)? Maybe 2 or 3 times a year. Disney once a month or so. Discovery Kingdom I visit maybe 300 days plus. About how many times a year do you travel to a park that is not your home park? Maybe 15 - 20 separate visits. When you travel do you go primarily to amusement parks or do you also try and hit other sites? Primarily for amusement parks What is the farthest you’ve traveled to go to an amusement park? On deployment in 2007 I was in several sites in Japan, Hong Kong and a few various other places. Does roller coaster time get in the way of family time? (Do you choose to miss your children’s or family’s sporting events, holidays, birthdays, etc…) No it does not. Do you have any other major hobbies? Working at the Kingdom Do you get feelings of sadness in the offseason? Do you even have an offseason? Do you travel during the offseason? Many parks are open year around near my location. I only get the "offseason blues" when we (Discovery Kingdom) close in the winter for a few short months. Do you consider yourself friends with someone you met who works at an amusement park? (Or reverse it, if you work or worked and an amusement park have you made friends with enthusiasts?) Sure. Would it bother you to go to an amusement park by yourself? It depends. In my travels abroad I visited many sites with nothing but my iPod which was fine. But here at home I’d rather take a buddy, the experience is better that way. Have you gone to an amusement park by yourself? If so have you ever ran into another enthusiast and tagged along with them? No. Do you find it easy to make friends with other enthusiasts? I don’t have to much experience in this department. I've gotten into conversations with people I may see wearing Coaster Enthusiast apparel, but that’s about it. How do you get your coaster news? I get several publications delivered to the office, and sometimes we found out what you find out at places like screamscape or newsplusnotes. How many different forum sites do you regularly post on? TPR! Have you ever “stole a kid” to get a credit on a kiddie coaster? No, it’s called a test ride haha. Do you cut other categories out of your budget to make trips to parks? (Entertainment, fast food, holidays, tobacco or alcohol, etc…) At times. Before you visit a new park do you research the park finding the best way to navigate the park, get the best deals, or what days to go? I may find the best deals, but once I’m in park I like to just take an adventure. Sometimes I ask people what the "don't miss it" type attraction, other than that I like to wing it. Do you feel the roller coaster enthusiast community is a warm and accepting community, or a negative and discouraging community? Accepting. Do you like to talk about your hobby with people who are not roller coaster enthusiasts? Yes. -
Going To SFDK On Saturday
Noobitizer replied to sfmmrules!'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
White Water Safari did suffer some downtime on saturday as previously mentioned, but it should be good to go come saturday. If you want to "walk on" to medusa I would try to head there first, usually later in the afternoon Medusa's line isn't to long. Let me know if there's anything you need help with as far as your trip. -Charles -
