Photo Trip Report: Vigo County Fair
mrceagle replied to spaceace12's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great pics! This carnival looks a bit cleaner then the ones up here. -
Nothing right now. They are working to expand the track for right now. and figure out what to do after you pass the bridge. It will be going another 1.5 miles past were it stops now. if I remember right! I think they seem eager to make a few more present park attractions before they look into starting a park on the other line.

I tagged along on a trip to Clarks with my Brother and Sister in law since I hadn’t been in a couple of years. We got a mid morning start and got to the White Mountains around 11:00 am. We Pulled into Hobo to see if they were doing tours of the Yankee flyer rehab. They weren’t but they were having a celebration. Seems Hobo is turning 20 this year. We stopped and saw a couple of booths, toured the engine, and saw Clark’s Moxie car up close which was a big bonus. We tried Moxie soda. Interesting, it has a very strong ginger after taste. We also tried some Hobo Stew and walked through the gift shop. Got to low inside information on why the Ferris wheel was removed. Started raining a little but we wrapped things up at Hobo Rail Road and hoped over to Clarks Trading post. I paid he new admission price of $15.00 dollars and my brother and sister in law used there season passes. We walked through the door way onto the station platform and our day had begun. Walked passed the Locomotive and looked at the parks new old Time Photo building. It has been expanded since my last visit and looks great. They can handle 3 groups at a time. After checking on prices we walked over to the Syrup cabin and then over to the small museum. . Saw a new gazebo that was added to the park. My brother said that wasn’t there opening weekend when they were there. So it was good to see then making small additions in the absence of a high profile one. Form there we watched the bear show. This is what Clark’s Trading post is known for. And the show still doesn’t disappoint. The show is full of Puns and Tries to be fun while putting on an entertaining show with an educational undertone. From there we opted to ride the train. With permission Granted we hopped aboard the Trains Locomotive. We try to do this at least once every trip. They were using the WMCRR number 2, Climax Locomotive today. They just installed a new boiler into it and returned it to service this year. When we got back we watched the circus show. Fantastic performance, we ended up watching this show twice during out visit. The father did some Extreme limbo stunts and the Mother was mostly an assistant. The Daughters were the real stars of the show doing may complicated acts. The first show was at the bear show arena and the second was moved to the new Picnic gazebo do to rain. We had already planed on having ice cream Sundays. So we did that next. We got a double scoop and a single scoop with make your own Sunday along with a soda. That ran be $8.50 total. A bit stuffed from my Sunday we hit Merlin’s Mystical Mansion. I found out this trip that this Mad House was build in house. Always fun and worth a few rides. We took 6 rides over the course of the day including our last ride of the day. We walked past the bumper boats and towards Tuttle’s Rustic house. I noticed that the new Kiddie playground style rock wall set up by the Old man Rock wall. It’s a very nice addition also new for this year. So it’s over to Tuttle’s Rustic house for a walk through. It’s a classic Crooked House, with many gags. It has 2 outdoor areas and 2 indoor rooms. The Guide was very energetic as were all the Employees today. That always makes the attraction better. Well My sister in law was hungry and my brother in law also. So we walked back to the main part of the park to the Whistle Stop Station for more food. Chicken fingers, fries, a grilled cheese sandwich and a drink. Total came to $9.50 for this meal. From there I hit the Bumper boats. I don’t know why I ride these. They don’t move at all and they have sprayers so it’s more about getting people wet then bumping people. And to make maters worse on this mildly cold day there was a family ganging up on any one getting on that was dry. So before I noticed I was very wet and extremely cold. Cold and a bit annoyed. Not to mentioned a bit pissed off. I watched the bear show which calmed me down. After that we went on out second ride on the train. Was able to get on the Locomotive again which wormed me up and dried me off a little. Talked to the engineer about future expansions, seems they will expand the track if the money is there. The expanded track will cost some were in the range of 600,000 dollars. After we got back we ended out day with a few more rides on Marlins Mystical Mansion. I also ran into an older couple and talked a little bit about Pine Island Park. A good day and allot of fun outside of getting very wet on the bumper boats. Hope to get back at least once before the end of the season.

Story Land 6-23-07 TR
mrceagle replied to mrceagle's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm a bit Curious to when the last time you were are the park. Over the last Few years they have expanded Greatly. adding 2 new themed areas and Increasing there ride count to 21. i also hope that Kennywood will help them expand. because anything that draws more attention to Story land will also end up helping Santa's Village. But i don't see Kennywood Turning Story land into a mega park with High end Adult attractions. if that is what your referring to? -

mrceagle replied to mrceagle's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ya the tunnel is a great addition .but has been there for 13 some odd years. Long before Kennywood came in the picture. but it's strange they have that in common. The CP and LE RR is a narrow gauge I believe. This is a Chance CP Huntington but on a very rare 20" gauge. -

Photos From the trip: Since we parked across the street we took the park’s Safety Walk Tunnel to get across the street to the front entrance. Taber’s Filling station once used as a stage for an animatronic Heritage commercial has been moved into the Antique car ride area as a set piece. People being hit by one of the water effects along Dr Geyser’s Remarkable Raft Ride. The park has been built around the natural landscape of the property. It makes for a very picturesque setting. Continuing with my Menu series! The train is always the best way to get off your feet and around the park. Some areas look more like a city park then a corporately owned theme park. -
I’ll be better then normal and make this Quick. This was a Simple trip Second to Story Land this year. My brother, Sister-in –law and my self went up early to hit a few things my niece Normally doesn’t hit. We got there at 11:00 am. It was partly cloudy and A bit cold. We parked across the street so to get to the park we had to take the tunnel to the other side. Yes they built a tunnel under the road so the guests wouldn’t have to cross the street. Antique cars – The Queue has a collection of old maps going back to 1954 it’s interesting to see how the park has ground and attraction no longer there, like the sea Lien exhibit. The ride itself is good but nothing special. These are new Electric cars form Chance. There a bit underpowered for the layout and Bog going up hill. They Peddles are a bit trouble sum also. On a side not they moves Taber’s Filling station Into the car ride area as a set. It used to serve as a stage for an animatronic Heritage NH commercial. Train – We got on at the main Junction next to the car ride after checking out the Gift shop. They sell things from Wizard of Oz to Thomas the Tank Engine. It’s a great way to get around to the back of the park. Not to mention it’s a relaxing ride. We got of and Went to the Farm area: Since Farm Fillies wasn’t letting in yet my brother and I hoped on Crazy barn, which is always an enjoyable ride. Farm Fillies show - The show is Fun. The show is made for Story land so it’s very unique, very reminiscing of Disney’s Kitchen cabaret. The Animatronics were working well, much better then the last time I watched it. I even noticed that at the end there is a farmer on a tracker pulling a cart of singing pumpkins. Good to see this ride got some work. Food- I was Hungry so I grabbed fried Dough (2.53 with tax). We were going to catch the Circus World show but they changed the time and it wasn’t showing for another half hour. So we went to the entrance and waited for my Parents and nice to get there. My brother and sister in law Hit up the Pixie Kitchen for their food. They got Chicken finger, an order of fries, and a grilled Cheese sandwich (9.35) A luck would have it My parents showed up right as we were finishing up so there wasn’t much of a delay till we wee pack at rides. So we hit the Car ride again and Cuckoo Clockinspeil on out way to the coaster Poler coaster – Was running well today. Smooth the mid course brake before the helix wasn’t coming on hard nor was the brake run brakes. Always a fun ride and it’s nice to ride a coaster that is no were else in the world. It was a bit cold my father picked up a Jacked at the gift shop for $30 dollars. He had grabbed one that didn’t fit him right. They exchanged it for a new one that fit without a second thought. Bamboo Chutes - We loaded me, my father, my Sister in law and my Niece into a boat. Great ride as always but we had a lot of weight in the boat. We hit the final hill hard. I didn’t fare too well, the splash cam up over the frond of the boat and right into my lap. It left me cold for a big part of the day. We all went into the Farm are and road the trackers, I road with my Nice. We skipped Crazy barn because my nice wanted a hot dog. But before eating we hoped on the turtle Twirl. After eating we Road the Whirling whales, I had to ride alone on this terribly boring ride. My nice, who is the target audience for the ride, didn’t seem to care too much about them. But they fit well into the Sea themed area Safari – First time reigning in a while. Fun ride the collapsing bridge scared my mom. My nice had fun looking at the animals from the cadged car. But it’s a shadow of it’s former self. It used to be a Jungle cruse safari ride. Now it’s very cartoonish and not as interesting. We finished of the say with the Carousel, Swan Boats, and Pirate ship ride wise. And it was closing time. Despite being closed my nice played in the pirates play area, Little Dreamers play area, and then in the tree house before leaving. The park officially closed at 6 we left at 6:45. That ended another Magical day at Story Land. On a side not we had Dinner at the Spaghetti Shack. A family owned Italian eatery by Attitash. You might want to try it if you’re in the area.

You there 2 and 4 and 6 and EightaaaaaHHHH It can get annoying after a while. I agree they should have had some animation even some basic Sound effects From the characters you pass by. I mean is a Small family park Like Santa's Village in Jefferson NH can add effects to there car ride SFI can do it with there Thomas area.

You'll Com across your favorite Stories like The 3 Little Pigs enjoy a swashbuckling adventure on the Buckner Pirate ship Come assure at the Oceans of Fun area: Cool off in the Oceans of fun Spray-ground Or take a Spin on the Turtle Twirl Who doesn't like food on a day in the park: There are a number of areas to eat at great prices! One of the most beautiful areas of the park is the Dutch Village: Get wet on Dr Geyser's Remarkable raft ride. Surprisingly wet for a family raft ride. Hopkins #3 raft ride. -
Our trip was going to be a larger on today. We were meeting up with my brother and new sister in law at the park. I was talking the trip with my parents and my niece. My parents normally find a way to make us later feeling they shouldn't have to rush. We didn't get to the a park till 12:30. We all got season passes. They were $62.00 a person. No word on weather they could be used at Lake Compounce or other Kennywood parks. There was a small line. They were getting a larger demand for Season passes so they were doing the photos in one of the Crooked houses and you picked up your Season pass in the customer service area. The day was very busy for an opening weekend. The busiest I had ever seen it. As is we had to park in the back part of the parking lot. We went after the rides heading up the hill to the CockooClockinspeil. Great ride as usual. We all hoped down to the Poller coaster for a couple of rides. My nice rode with me on one of them. Since it is a family park with a focus towards Children, it is very deferent Going with a child then simply for the park itself. My niece and I went on the flying shoes which she not only asked for but asked for me to bring her. After a nice Flight we made our way to the Bamboo chutes. My niece and I sat in the front and my father took the back. My brother and sister in law hoped in the next boat. After We bout our On-ride Photos Got a surprise The Surprise was my father actually said it was OK that my nice can go on Dr. Geysers Remarkable raft ride. He insisted on riding as well. It was a worm day not too hot but getting a little wet would be nice. Some elements like the Rain machine and some sprayers were turned down so you didnt get as wet. But the Water Geysers were shutting hard. While we didnt come of Soaked we were reasonably wet. My niece seemed to like the ride watching all the sets go by and spraying here uncles and grandpa. Now my brother got marries at the park the week before. The word had got out and many of the employees were watching for them and giving congrats. We made our way back to the back end of the park to the farm area. We rode the crazy barn. Then cooled of in one of the park many mist tents. We then rode on the Tractor ride. The girls running the loading area I had seen the week before. She had come in early from Singapore for the summer work program. After that we walked back down the hill into the Oceans of fun area. After a Spin on the Turtle Twirl Ride My nice wanted a Snack, so we Walked across to Light house Snacks. We ordered 3 hotdogs, 2 Large Souvenir cups (22oz) and an ice tea for a total of $10.75. Since the park closed at 5 today we didnt have much time left. We walked around to the Carousel, My brother, Sister, and I went to ride the Pirate ship while my parents and Niece went to ride the train. We were able to get one more ride on the Coaster before they closed for the day. We took the long way around and my nice played at the tree house playground till around 6:00 before we left for the day. Though a short trip it was a nice day. Despite the larger crowds lines were more then 20 minutes for the rides. They were really good all day about filling seats. I cant for my next trip and look forward to seeing how the park grows under Kennywoods ownership. Right now I know they only plan to give the park a good warsh! Camera Phone Photos coming soon

Thanks for sharing the pics. The Thomas town looks great. I have to agree though the Sir Topm hat looks very creepy.

Given we didn’t get to the park at all in May when Jun came around we quickly made plans. Outside of a short stop at an appointment for my Brother and sister in law we were able to get to the park by 12:30. We already had tickets so we were able to walk right in. Surprisingly the crowds were only moderate. I was surprised because the other Scout days I had been to had been busier. We walked in and I quickly saw a few new things. A canopy had been added to a Concrete pad and Lockers had returned. I was told that this wrought was taken because that spot may be used for a ride in the future. A new Giant claw game was added next to the now opened popcorn stall. There is a space remaining next to the Claw game which will be the new home to the Park photo cart. The area should look nice. While Walking to Frisbee, the parks new ride, I saw that the park new water Feature was finished. It looks better then I expected. I was expected a simple fountain. They build in a very nice water fall with great landscaping. Fantastic addition! We made our way to Frisbee. There is now has 2 large speakers between the Canobie 500 and Frisbee. They are blasting Techno Music out of it. My sources say it was a dart through type idea and no real reason why they chose techno. Thing is the Music was a bit too loud while in line. But, then you couldn’t hear it on the ride. Which to me is a bit of a waist, also supporting the over carnival aspect of the new ride. The ride however was fantastic. I was stapled in the light kept saying one of the seats in our row wasn’t locked. Went on it a second time I road without a problem with a looser restraint on one of the middle seats. Interesting! We walked around and finally tracked down Freddy from Canobie fan. He was working the Mini Dinos. We had a quick chat before I went on with my park day. Since Dragon was right there I hit Dragon, always an enjoyable little coaster. I took a double ride. back together with my Brother and sister in law we headed for cannonball. The coater was down and maintenance was there getting it fixed. We watched the Newton’s Revenge show while we waited. Missed the first 10 minutes but it was a good show from what I was able to see. Fun and handles Newton’s laws well. We planed to see it later in the day but never made it back. With cannonball up again we hoped in line and waited a train load to get on. The line filled up quickly behind up. The ride was great and smooth. With the line we opted to wait till later to ride again. We did a hope around that side Phychodrome and my brother actually rode Skater with me. On our way by we saw Carl and Anthony Bernie at the new Burger place so we stopped to talk. We were asked again what we would like to see. Kevin said coaster. I mentioned a couple flats I saw online that might be good for the park. they were there with 2 managers from sedexco. It seams the burgers may be temporarily. They would liek something a bit more unique added to the menue within the park. But no changes are set at this time. I complemented them on the addition of refillable Souvenir cups and on the increase in food quality. The two managers seemed eager so show off there work and are very proud of there jobs. Always good to see! We worked our way to the other side of the park. it was slow and we lingered around a lot. We hoped in line for the Flume and then over to Mine of lost souls. Great ride but most of the doors were stuck open. I’d really like to see them do a solid rehab on this ride. We were hungry so we made our way to Portifinos. We hit Ocean trip on the way by. The restaurant had a nice new entrance. We got a whole cheese pizza and 3 drinks for $22 dollars. It was going to take a while to cook since we were on top of a large order for the Scout troop that was camped out by castaway. Only had a couple problems while there. The Ukrainian girl taking the drink orders messed up and gave us diets on our cokes. I had to get that fixed. A couple behind up Had made a complaint about the booster seats being dirty. Thing was I watched one of the workers come over an clean every single one of them. I guess Quickly fixing a problem wasn’t good enough for them. I guess a couple of them had cobwebs on them. They likely hadn’t been caught and clamed before it opened I think the weekend before. After eating we hoped on the Blue Heron Lake Cruse. After a nice relaxing trip around the lake we made our way we walked back up the main midway. I hoped on Star Blaster and took a look at the midway games. I looked at the new Heritage Gift shop at the new entrance while I waited for my brother and Sister to get back from the car. They have really stocked up on the sore. Opening day they have just t-shirts. Not they have Pins, Magnets, as well as a few daily need items. Good to see. Still surprised on how small it is. After meeting back up we made our way to Ye old Canobie village for a Drink. I bought a souvenir cup for $9.95 that offered $1.00 refills. Since it was hot we opted to look at Timber splash. Line was nothing only in the station. After my brother and Sister-in-law rode him and I want on. We got soaked. By the way we walked right on to the wet side. There was a 4-6 boat wait for the wetter side. Since we were already wet we figured we would ride Boston Tea party. We came off of that completely drenched as always. We made our way around trying to hit more rides and remember what we didn’t ride yet. Road cannonball again and Hoped on the tea cups. We went on the flume again. we opted to go on lost souls again so we started making out way around. We noticed the park has added sprayers to the ride. The kind a guest can drop a quarter into a box and set off. Good addition in my mind. After a tried on Lost souls the weather wasn’t looking good. An employee did say ran was coming. We walked over to the Whack-A-Mole building were there was a good cover. We ran into the park games manager on the way. We hid out under his Umbrella while we quickly talked about the new sprayers and the claw game. There will be a cover added above the claw game. Hw had to go because of the rain. Not long after we got to the game building it started poring. Managers and Security were around to make sure there was no problem. Not to mention to get people under cover since there was lighting as well. All of a sudden there was a call out form all the security and managers to get under something. They as well ran in every direction or under something as well. The sky opened up with gem sized hail. It all stopped after about 8 minutes. They didn’t close the park. Only down fall was I was wet the rest of the day. We went on with out day. We went for a ride on the train. Nice ride talked to the people around us. They lived in upstate VT and were actually closer to TGE then to Canobie. I was proud of my home park when I heard they felt it was a better park. we walked over to the antique cars. We too another ride on cannonball and around to Frisbee again and figured we’d ride the Canobie 500 cars also. We got in line and towards the front they we could see a dead car up on the hill. The exiting attendant said that died on Friday. As we got to the entrance things were delayed when another car stopped and they had to take it off the track. So we finally get on My brother and sister in law go one and I got the next one. The girl in back of me was teasing her brother about having the purple car. I said it was mine and the loading attendant she said it was so my color. Rounding the bend after the hill heading towards the pirate ship the cars were backed up. An employee was that and my brother was getting out of his car. I asked if they needed help and the watch employee said yes. The cars Axle had literally fallen off. So my brother and I helped them lift the car and Get it off the track. So we could finish the ride. After seeing that I really thing the park needs to remove this ride. They could fit a coaster for the western area and 3-5 flats in that space. After an unusual ride on the bumper cars we got on line for the Frisbee. This was the only bad experience personally for me all day. We got on and I sat on the end. Now I’ve gained weight but I have been on this Frisbee 6 times already and many others. The light was reading that it couldn’t lock. They stapled me in and it still wouldn’t lock. They told me I couldn’t ride but the Round up and Turkish twist was similar rides. I staying calm informed then that there sensors were still messing up and that I was going to try on of the inner seats. Not only did I fit but the restraints didn’t even touch my body. It was a great ride though reaching a really good height and running a very good program. My sister n law needed to go by her mothers house so we needed to call the day an end early. We waked back to the cannonball for one last ride. Always a good way to end the day. As we were rounding the back turn of the coaster I saw that the park had added Light boxes to the coaster to illuminate the entire turn. Nice addition. The coaster looks Great form the parking lot and the LED lights cast an almost eerie glow on the turn ad you are heading for it. In all it was a very good day, despite the rain and Conflict with Frisbees restraint. It’s amazing on how much the park dose over the spring and summer so you always find little changes each time you go. Can’t wait till my next trip! Closed rides: Wipe out, Over The Rainbow, Skater in afternoon. Some Camera Phone Pics coming soon!

A Story Land Wedding
mrceagle replied to mrceagle's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I fixed the Spelling so Weeding is now Wedding. The photos seem to be working fine. Rob - I'll keep my eye out for Potential Gardening photo ops just for you! -
On May 19th 2007 my brother Kevin and my now sister in Law Anne were married. Anne wanted a medieval or a Fairy tail weeding. In time they opted to have the wedding at the Castle at Story Land. For the weeding we stayed at the Eagle Mountain House, just up the Road from Jackson Falls in Jackson, NH. The hotel is one of the remaining Grand hotels in NH. To give you some background on them I should tell a short story about how they meet. Kevin and Anne meet while working at Canobie Lake Park. Kevin worked games and Anne worked rides, mostly kiddie land. They had lost track of each other for a while but opening day of Canobie in 2005 changed all that. My brother and I were standing in line for the Cannonball. It was the last ride of the night, when my brother was taped on the shoulder and that person said “don’t I know you?” Kevin turned around and there was Annie. Things snowballed from there. On July 18th 2006 Kevin proposed to Anne. Being park and coaster fans it happened in a park. Kevin Brought Anne to Lake Compounce. The proposal was done outside the gates in front of the flower garden. Jerry Brick was nice enough to video tape the Proposal. So time brought use back to the weeding and to Story Land. My brother and I arrived at the park early to get things rolling. Bob the Group Sales Manager meet us at the Employee gate by the castle. We walked past the tea cups and down to the Pumpkin Coach’s lower loop. Much to my surprise, we were going to be able to use the parks brand new Pumpkin coach. The new Coach looks great. It’s larger then the old one. That means it not only holds more people but it is more comfortable allowing an adult to sit up straight. The very natural looking Pumpkin on a metal great platform looks great. The engine now is an environmentally friendly eclectic engine. They brought the entire wedding party up in the pumpkin coach, which was a nice extra touch we weren’t expecting to have. They even allowed us to move the thrown from the stage so the minister could stand it its spot. The ceremony was nice. I forgot to mention it didn’t rain up there Saturday. So it was cool and comfortable. After the ceremony they did only 2 rides down on the pumpkin coach one with the Bride Groom and Wedding party. The second was the grandparents and a couple that didn’t need to be walking down the hill. They allowed us to get pictures by the Story Land Queen and on the Carousel. We left the same way we went in. I was very happy to be able to return the Thrown to its rightful spot, Turn off the Sound system in the castle and surrounding area, and Close the Castle doors. A big Thrill for me! There was a Photo session at Jackson falls before we made our way the Eagle Mountain house’s carriage house for the reception. In all the weather cooperated making for a great day. Story land was very cooperative and happy to be doing the weeding. And the Eagle Mountain house was a fantastic destination by itself. A true fairy Tail story I guess.

Ya the new entrance looks Great and it can handle far more capacity then the parks gets right now so this entrance will work for them for many years. The Frisbee needs some work. but Skater took a big turn for the better thought out last year so I'm souping we will see improvements added before the year is out. Ocean Trip has it's pales repainted so I hope at least that will happen with Frisbee. I don't mind the Trains on Cannonball. The colors might be a bit unusual but it's a unique paint job and it's wonderfully done. The cannonballs rails have been many colors. Red, Blue, Yellow, orange, They change them every so often. Cannonballs Brakes couldn't be simply converted to fins. The tracking is actually a board thinner then most coasters. It is one reason it has that wild ride. Mags are possible but it's a large scale expansion. Mags aren't cheap. But it's something they know they need. Frisbee will help with lines a bit which is good. But in time you will see something done. sfne2005 - Maybe you should tack a trip to canobie before you judge. Or are you blinded by all the construction equipment building the pathetic 3 ride Thomas Town. Calvin - Now you know why she's smiling! -
Ya i completely agree especially since there is a much better Mono Lisa on the davinci's Dream Ride. The parks First and still best Mona Lisa
-
I agree the popcorn stand looks very RCT. I wish it was located some were else in the park it really detracts form the beautiful new entrance. I think by Kiddie land 2 would have been a better choice. The american flag theme or simply a generic look was OK but not great. there is still traces of it on the ride. The Orange, Green accents come from flags on the new entrance and some of the tones found on the entrance. It's basically a more natural color scheme. I agree with Apollo that the American flag flag paint job has been over done and I was glad to see the change. apollo210 - Sorry to hear you couldn't make it. It was a good day and the weather was great. You likely would have missed Frisbee. from more recent reports form today they seem to have gotten it's kinks worked out for the most part. The skater is still down apparently. This is the 3rd year in a row with major down time on this ride. I'm beginning to loose faith in Zamperla.
