  1. Hey Robb - if you guys do the Bobsled, let me know. I want to do it with you! Shane
  2. Here is a quick bonus post, an early site plan of the Las Vegas Wet n' Wild waterpark. Anyone remember this park?
  3. Well I am PROUD to say that I LOVED Big Bad Wolf and I think this thread is very disrepectful. It was the reason I went to Busch gardens and was always the first and last ride I would ride at the park. All the other rides at the park are great also but I truely loved everything about the wolf...especially that it was the brainchild of Anton. Of course I am unique, judging by the theme of my Amusement Attic thread I am partial to the coasters of the 70's & 80's especially Arrow Suspended coasters. I hope Ninja will remain around as well as the two models from KI and CW. I think we should all take a moment to reflect on the Magesty of the Big Bad Wolf and all of those that have disrespected it should get inot that confessional and confess your transgressions against the love child of Anton & Ron. Shane ..."if this coaster is a swinging, don't come a dinging"... Huish
  4. The good news is I finally got my two front teeth, the bad news is my Grandma got ran over last night by a reindeer.
  5. - Olympia Looping front seat at night, in the rain and shloshed...followed by a chaser of Alpina Bahn!
  6. That is exactly what we use. 3 large highrate sand filters and a UV lamp on each water system. Each system has a 25 minute turnover rate.
  7. MERRY CHRISTMAS from COWABUNGA BAY 2010
  8. 1990 Roller Coasters by TIME & BOYS' LIFE Time for another Attic update. This time I take you back to 1990 when 2 magazine articles from "Boys' Life" & "TIME" chronicle the latest technological advances in coaster design. Yes designers like Ron Toomer and Curtis Summers are taking coasters to new levels of thrills with the advances of computer technology. Read all about the NEW coasters such as the TEXAS GIANT, VIPER and a new kind of thriller, the Stand Up IRON WOLF! PS- as a bonus you can enjoy some of the 1990's Boys' Life humor. ha ha ha ha ha ha
  9. The biggest dissapointment of 2010 for me was the closing of AstroWorld. Yes I know it happened 5 years ago but I am still reeling from what I consider to be one of the BIGGEST mistakes in the Amusement Park Industry. And to make matter worse they still have not rebuilt Greezed Lightnin'. C'mon Joyland get with it!
  10. Below is a link to an earlier post I did on the World of Sid & Marty Kroft. For those of you that missed it click on the link, it is an interesting article on an interesting concept. http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=529492#529492 And for another interesting read on another indoor park... link below will take you to an ealier article on Old Chicago. http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=579356#579356
  11. Scott- Is there anything new...or old in the closet?
  12. thanks for posting those links. I love reading up on these quirky amusement parks of the past. AutoWorld and Power Plant seem to be very simlar to the "World of Sid & Marty Kroft". Crazy ideas that never really caught on. click herehttp://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=529492#529492
  13. Here are my favorite pics of 2010 from my favorite TPR trip of 2010...and a bonus favorite pic from Cowabunga Bay
  14. I loved reading that link about AutoWorld. It's no wonder that park failed...it has the worst logo I have ever seen.
  15. Six Flags Atlantis Six Flags has been involved with several crazy side projects in their history. There was Movieland Wax Museum in Buena Park, Auto World in Detroit, Funtricity in Mississippi and we can't forget to mention the most crazy..."Coaster Cuts". Along they way they picked up "Atlantis" water park. This was their first run with water parks. Well the park is no longer around. I seem to recall that not only did it have financial problems but it was somewhat destroyed in a storm that blew through Florida (if someone has more detail please feel free to chime in). Here are a couple of brochures from the park back when it was alive and kicking. -Shane
  16. DORNEY PARK part 2 I was missing a few brochures from the late 80's and early 90's but thanks to eddie200330 here they are! I was beginning to think that Season 4 was going to be the last season of Shane's Amusement Attic but eddie200330 sent me a box full of goodness and that should be enough to keep us going for another season or two. So a big shout out to Eddie! This is the year that Dorney steps into the big leagues with the addition of the World's Tallest Wooden Coaster. Of course this started a big lawsuit with Six Flags over Texas who also opened the World's Largest Wooden Coaster the same year. So who actually won the title???? The world may never know. Can you believe a park actually had the Care Bears as mascots??? A prettye big addition for a smaller park 1989 1991 - "I'm sorry we don't have Coke, is Pepsi ok?" From top to bottom it was a great drop...but the rest of the ride sucked! Hooray for the Laser!
  17. Hooray! with the addition of this coaster Lagoon will have the biggest lineup of BORING coasters around (with the exception of Fire Dragon)
  18. A couple of the brochures from above are before it was a CedarFair park.
  19. hmmmm...Bombora? and I hear it will have a beach theme. Now where have I heard of that before?
  20. Me neither...the sad part is that my grandparents live in Houston and I visit them every summer...and we didn't make it to Astroworld once But does anyone know what happened to each coaster? I know Greezed Lightning is in storage and a couple of them were scrapped, but what about the others? Specifically I want to know about Batman: The Escape and Viper if anyone knows anything. B:TE sits in pieces at DL,UT sits in pieces at SFA while only the SLC was put back into operation recently at la ronde & all the remaining coasters were scrapped save for mayan mindbender & GL,which have yet to go back into operation either. The Mayan Mindbender now operates outdoors as the Hornet at Wonderland Amusement Park in Armarillo, TX.
  21. Well it is IAAPA time and the World WaterPark magazine has put out a special Convention edition and I am pleased as punch that they featured Cowabunga Bay. Here is an interesting story about how the park came to be. Hurry and turn to page 136!
  22. want more Worlds Of Fun? I have more press releases and brochures for the parks 15th and 20th anniversary coming up soon!
  23. Worlds of Fun 1981 I always love a good AstroWorld post and yes I am amazed that a market as large as Houston is now without a park. Almost as good as AstroWorld is Worlds of Fun circa 1980's. World's of Fun always seemed a small park that kept up with the big boys. Think about it, they were one of the firsts to feature a Corkscrew roller coaster and then they followed it up with one of the greatest coasters of the early 80's, The Orient Express! Along with AstroWorld they were one of the first parks to feature a waterpark side by side with the theme park. Well how do you follow up the success of "The Orient Express"??? How about with a Cinema 180? Well not so good as it seemed attendance was never as high in the 80's as when the Orient Express opened. I am still trying to understand why Cedar Fair took that ride out. The park has never been the same since Cedar Fair took it over...It has become a stip mall park like the rest of the other Cedars. Here's a look back to the year 1981 and what the park had to offer. Enjoy Shane all the new additions for 1981. A Cinema 180 and a few games. here are some interesting WOF facts. News! more fun facts I loved this little magazine the park produced. map from 1979 Orient Express
  24. Here's a shameless plug for what's coming up in Shane's Amusement Attic. A look back at World's of Fun...when it was good.
