Dollywood Discussion Thread

Again, nobody would be going to Dollywood to get shitfaced. A couple beers aren't going to dehydrate people. You're right, but having a little alcohol makes everything better! -

I believe you're mentioning "Raging Bull"? Damn right he is. I'll back it up and spell it out. Raging Bull's first drop is better than Goliath's (and most other coasters). Ehh... maybe in the backseat? The predrop definitely adds something unique, but I still think I'd take Goliath's drop - That thing is massive and filled with ejector! -
Dollywood Discussion Thread

Would somebody please think of the children???? Seriously I've heard this argument time and time again whenever parks change their alcohol policies and I've never once seen anyone drunk at a theme park outside of a Halloween event (something that Dollywood doesn't have). I'm sure it happens, but I've never seen it. Everyone lost their collective sh*t when they brought alcohol to the Magic Kingdom and guess what? The world didn't end. The vibe didn't change. Everything is fine. Aside from a few Halloween events (which always bring out sh*t crowds) this is almost never an issue at any park anywhere. Hell, Busch Gardens Williamsburg has some of the nicest clientele of any park I've been to and they keep the alcohol flowing nonstop. We saw people walking around with bottles of wine drinking straight out of the bottle, but nobody was belligerent, nobody was being an a**hole, everything was fine. People don't go to theme parks to drink (except maybe Epcot and BGW), but it's nice to be able to get a few beers throughout the course of the day. There are tons of parks where people can drink, in many cases they can even walk around with their drinks and bring them into queue lines and everything is fine. Nobody goes to a park to get drunk on $12 bottles of American piss beer and $15 wine / mixed drinks. Dollywood would make a killing if they brought in some local distilleries and sold some drinks made with local Moonshine / Whiskey/ Craft Beer (sort of like Trail Tavern at Cedar Point). Like most parks, they could have a one drink per person policy and cut people off if it was ever an issue. People would bitch, but they'd get over it and the vibe of the park wouldn't change a bit. I can't think of a single example of a park that's "vibe" was ruined because they started selling alcohol. I'm really sick of this argument because I can't think of a single example of this ever happening. Quoted for Truth. That's one reason why I love SeaWorld parks! Unfortunately, I could see that Dollywood might get backlash for going against the weird Baptist Tennessee stigma against alcohol. Although I know the local moonshine places are mildly successful, so maybe there's hope? -

Outlaw Run? Watching the layout being revealed through construction was so exciting for Outlaw Run! So much speculation and excitement! It's pretty much the only reason I like using coaster forums! -

You guys... This is RMC. They've proven exactly 11 times that we have NO IDEA what's coming next! They are constantly breaking new ground -- And this element is already unlike anything they've done before. Comparing this to Joker or Lightning Rod right now is useless. -

Sometimes the ledgers need to span multiple vertical posts to have the IBox sit exactly where RMC wants it. It seems that the RMC layout is slightly deviating from the exact overhead path Mean Streak used to have and is using some formerly outer support structure to now directly support track. It's not the first time they've done this. -

The track isn't finished from the station to the first drop. They barely have track on the lift. Do you have prooof of that? Granted I can't prove it's finished from station to drop either, but I cant disprove it either. Love when new pics pop up!! I do, this picture is from Jan 21. There's no way the drop has been completed since then. And this one from Jan. 30 -

I wanted to use the trends of the 7 first RMC IBox conversions to predict track length of RMC Mean Streak. If the trends of a sample size of 7 can tell us anything, the new track length will be about 85% of the old. We should be looking at anywhere between 4500 ft to 4800 ft. Maybe bringing the lift to 200 ft+ can give it enough momentum to beat Twisted Colossus for the "World's Longest Hybrid" record? Notes on the calculation: - I only used track length of a single side of Twisted Twins because SC follows the layout of only one side and obviously doesn't have a second lift (like TC). - I made a second average calculation of just six IBox (omitting Twisted Colossus) because the strange mobius layout cut off a lot of original track. 58% is a low number partly because TC doesn't have two separate station/brakes/prelift sections like Colossus' 8650 ft track length has. -

I think Magnum is fantastic - I love those last airtime hills! It's impressive that any single park can have 5 coasters in my top 50 steel. Here's how'd I'd rank CP's collection: 1. Maverick (#2 steel overall) 2. Millennium Force (#16) 3. Top Thrill Dragster (#37) 4. Valravn (#41) 5. Magnum XL-200 (#42) 6. GateKeeper 7. Raptor 8. Blue Streak 9. Rougarou 10. Gemini ...Everything else -
Top 5 wood and steel coasters
chickenbowl replied to a topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This exact ranking is in my signature! But I'll write it out some details Steel: 1. Intimidator 305 - Pushes the boundaries of intensity. It's insanely fast and insanely forceful. Never been on anything as exhilerating 2. Maverick - What a fun coaster! Crazy transitions! Great airtime! Long layout that never lets up! 3. Skyrush - Maybe the strongest airtime that ever existed?! The coaster tries to throw you across the park 4. Medusa Steel Coaster - Best paced steel RMC. Near perfect layout, great mix of inversions and airtime. Best part is that there's no slow parts! 5. Mega-Lite, Happy Valley Shanghai - 100' airtime machine! Brilliantly tiny coaster that has a deceiving amount of airtime! I couldn't stop laughing with how much fun I was having Wood: 1. Outlaw Run - Very intense with amazing pacing! I love the use of terrain and very unique layout 2. El Toro - What hasn't been said about this coaster? A modern classic. The first series of straight airtime hills exemplify my enthusiasm for roller coasters 3. Phoenix - A perfect coaster. Understated, simple, and incredible 4. Voyage - This coaster goes beyond imagination. A myriad of tunnels and airtime deep in the forest. Probably the most ambitious wood coaster ever built 5. Coaster, Playland - Much like Phoenix, a true classic. It has ejector airtime and single position lapbar. This coaster is what those old, rough wood coasters want to be. -

This facebook page where I found the webcam link yesterday says that camera was aimed at Planet Snoopy until yesterday. I can't currently find any links to the webcam on KD's website, but maybe they used to display it on their site? -

Theme parks and coasters in the snow
chickenbowl replied to thrillrider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That's pretty cold! In Pigeon Forge this past summer, I'd ask the attendants if I could wait an extra 10 seconds to get some space in between me and the person in front - If I'm paying $10 for one ride, I want it to be a decently fast ride! I believe that's an ADG model too! There's only a handful of those around. I still think it's funny that a company called "Aquatic Development Group" makes mountain coasters -- I work with them on some of our North American FlowRiders. -

Here's a picture from the one time I rode a coaster in the snow. This is the mountain coaster at Holiday Valley in Ellicottville, NY. It was late December of 2014, 8pm, and 16 degrees. The rails were frozen! Quite an interesting experience for riding a coaster! -

I made the awful choice of riding in the back on my first ride, which wasn't fun. But it's actually enjoyable (with a few slow sections) in the front. Nowhere near as great as it looks though! -

That top ledger is definitely outward banked! I'm trying to imagine what kind of element this will be! This is really exciting -- It's our first look at any interesting bit of this layout! And it'll only get more exciting from here! -
