  1. That second pic he posts, showing that first drop on Mr Twister....nice shot, what a great drop that was......
  2. For those of us who remember riding Mr Twister, it truly is missed. Twister II can not compare at all, not even remotely. The speed, drops, twists and that amazing helix is what made that ride.....and in my opinion, very few coasters, even to this day, have come close to being as good.
  3. Just saw KISS meets the Phantom of the Park for the first time this past weekend. For those who dont know, it took place in like '79 or '80 at Magic Mountain. Any yes, as you might imagine, it is as corny as it sounds! But its awesome as hell! Anyway, if you get a chance to see the movie, watch it.....it shows alot of the original rides that used to be at the park, as well as a lengthy scene which takes place at the "wizards castle" that Rob showed us a picture of.
  4. Thats the second(all installations) coaster scheduled to open this year that revolve around a figure that has just died....Heath Ledger(as the Joker) and Evel Kneivel.....
  5. That photo of the Magic Room, and the one of the Condor, were taken at the 1984's Worlds Fair in New Orleans. I distinctly remember the Magic Room being a major let down. The walls swoung back and forth, finally rotating 360 degrees while the seat in the middle remained stationary. Tried to give the feeling of a rocking ship....but nope, didnt work. I was 13 at the time of the fair, and I also remember getting stuck on the Condor, when it broke down at the very top of the lift pole.....will admit, I was scared s..tless!
  6. Was just at Elitchs 2 weeks ago....and first things first...even with the trims...you still come slamming into the station on Twister II. It is, altogether a good coaster, but nowhere near what the original Mister Twister was. Everything was looking great at the park the day I went(thursday before memorial day), clean everywhere, good to see the chaos back.....but, every single game booth was closed....not that there needs to be game booths at any park....but, why have the building if its unoccupied....made the park look like it wasn't able to financially support full operations.....
  7. Theres several other inaccurate things about the buildings...in all likelihood, it was designed and even built before they got rid of the coaster. The Treasure Island is also inaccurate, they havent had that street sign in at least two years.
  8. Vegas here. Not only do they not have the Manhattan Express, they dont have the Empire State or Chrysler Buildings as part of there NYNY hotel(at least not in the pic). Though I think the sign indicates it isnt finished yet.
  9. People keep stating they hope a new coaster goes up in its place! The point of tearing down Psyclone was not to put up a new coaster there. If they put anything up, will be a kiddie coaster and kiddie land, as they have hinted at. They dont need another new major coaster, steel or wood, at this point at the park. They need to refurbish what they have! Stop wishing for a new coaster, start praying for an improved park!
  10. I was at Magic Mountain 6 times last year. I never really felt it to be any worse than say Knotts is when it comes to "gangs". Of course, I only visited the park once during the summer, I prefer the off season when its less crowded and colder.
  11. The coaster from both the first Smokey and the Bandit, and the second movie, where it gets destroyed, is the Greyhound, an old woodie that was located at Lakewood Fairgrounds in Atlanta, Georgia
  12. It came down extremely quickly. I was at the park the sunday before...and it was still standing. Oh well.
  13. Please let this be the last coaster they shove into this side of the park.
  14. Is the new location going to be promising? Isnt it good news that there moving to a bigger place?
  15. All this talk about moving the Psyclone trains to Colossus is nice, but how about fixing Colossus first. For one thing, I was there a few weeks ago, and theres a good reason why theres only one track running, cause theres a huge portion of track missing on the second track on the first turnaround. That coaster needs major attention, not just new trains. New wood, new formatting, all new tracking, as well as new trains. Face it guys, I love the coaster, always have, its not nearly as bad as Psyclone, but it is still rough, and needs some tender loving care.
  16. Viper is also one of a trio of coasters that Arrow built for Six Flags back in the early 90's, the other two being SFGA's Shockwave and Great American Scream Machine at SFGAdv. Viper had a slightly different layout because of its location, but basically, all three coasters are identical. Shockwave is gone.....would hate to see Viper go as well. Yeah its rough in places, but all in all, a fun coaster. Correct me if I am wrong, but with the closure of Psyclone, that leaves only the Viper at SFGA and the Cyclone at SFG, and the original Coney Island Cyclone as the only ones left. Are there any others? Never having ridden SFGA's Viper, does anyone know how it compares to MM's Psyclone?
  17. Hey guys, Las Vegas resident here. Vegas casinos are NO longer imploded as a tourist attraction. They are done during the early hours of the morning, usually around 3 a.m. and are NOT promoted to the tourists as an attraction to go witness. As a matter of fact, the police are used to blck off any and all of the viewing areas now. They are imploded because it is the easiest and fastest way to bring a casino down. There is a danger in blowing things up or imploding them, since debris has the tendency to get projected quite far from the implosion. What will happen, if these two coasters do in fact come down is, Psyclone will face a wrecking ball, bulldozers, and other heavy equiptment, and Flashback WILL face a welders torch, and chopped into pieces. Good riddance in my opinion, though I would love to see another woodie at that park again.
  18. Yeah, Tatsu does get in the way of the excellent view of Revolution, but what an awesome rollercoaster - not a steel mess at all. Did the mountain this past weekend, on Saturday, the 13th, during the middle of this frigid cold spell we have going on out west here. Wasn't crowded at all, no wait in any lines really, except Tatsu. Of course, there were closed coasters(Ninja, Goliath, Psychlone, and X), but what was absolutely amazing, was that it was in the upper 30's, ice all over the walkways....and yet Jet Stream and Roaring Rapids was open and full of people. Thats die-hard!
