  1. Unfortunately they didn't build it against high water. That's the concern; wood soaked for hours in 15+ ft water isn't a good combination. They wasn't concerned about the wind more than the surge that will occur. The news say that although the hurricane is close to a cat 3 before it came ashore, because of the size the surge is closer to a 4 or 5. That's why they were putting out the dire warnings for the low lying areas and the coast. Houston got hit with a cat 2 at 110mph winds instead of the 1 they were forecasting. They said that the more damaging winds are at a high elevations, so windows in skyscrapers are getting blasted out. Terry
  2. I'm thinking the webcam is now dead, the camera hasn't been updated since 10:30pm.
  3. The link was several pages ago: http://www.myfoxhoustonlive.com/ They just interviewed the owner of Kemah Boardwalk and he mentioned the fact that it is at sea level without a sea wall and he hoped he doesn't lose the rollercoaster. (The were forecasting between 18-25ft surge). He also he closed the boardwalk on Thursday and put away things. He said he'll work to get the restaurant opened on Monday, but they'd have to wait and see on the attractions.
  4. I just checked the webcam in Kemah; the power is still on but the picture is awful blurry, probably from the high winds and rain.
  5. Not sure where in relation to the coaster this is, but here's a webcam shot: Looks like there's flooding and if that's part of the boardwalk, it's about to go underwater. Luckily the water should go back out after the storm, but whatever it damaged will be left.
  6. ^LOL I was just watching MSNBC and one of the reporters in a "green car" just passed the coaster heading towards the bay. The water was wild and coming in (just about 50 feet from the coaster); they said the place will be inundated before 6pm. EDIT: Please note that it will be actually 12 hours before the hurricane comes in and they're already rescuing people trapped by flood water and storm surge. They also showed video of coast guard rescuing people either trying to drive by the ocean or trying to take pictures of storm surge and they got trapped in their cars. The news also said that if Galveston Island get the 15 foot surge, most of the island will be under water. Terry
  7. I like the Nike app on the iPod Touch and I've heard the speakers weren't much to shout about. But I'm closer to thinking about buying one; I can hold off because my old ipod is still working. I guess I'll just eventually get the iphone, since I'm more in need of getting rid of this huge pocketpc phone I lug around. Terry
  8. ^That airtime will be nothing nice. Terry
  9. ^Surely you jest! Plus the winds will be close to 110MPH. Hopefully they built the coaster to withstand high winds or it might end up being called the Kemah Lumber Pile! The whole place has a high probability of being a complete water park this weekend! Terry
  10. ^Yeah Crysis is the one game that will put your video card to the test! I have a 8800GT installed that is slightly overclocked. Not that I've played any games with it, but it was more for compatibility for my mac install.I have 3 hard drives installed and I use it to store my music and video. I got some cheap computer equipment directly from China; the wireless card that apple uses and 3rd parties want to charge $120 for I got for $40 with shipping. Can't beat that! Eli: I would check insanelymac.com for the boot-132 patch that allows you to install the original mac disk from any computer. Also I would check into making sure you have the proper patches for your network and other hardware. There's a program called kext helper that will alllow you to install the drivers for the hardware. You also may have to try a different install to see if you get a different result. If you're using a laptop with a core duo, it may make sense to go the boot-132 route, and use the efi strings for best compatibility (look for a program called efi studio). It's a bit harder using OEM laptops than custom built rigs. But the key is know what hardware on your laptop is compatible and anything is incompatible. But anyway that site is a good reference (well the only reference) for trying the mac-on-pc project. Terry
  11. Well I have a copy of OSX Leopard on my PC and it's been running since April. One of the other sites I belong to is a technical board on people installing OSX on various machines. I built my machine from scratch based on the most compatible parts that were mentioned in the various threads. I had a small contribution on getting an Airport compatible 5ghz network card in a desktop. It was a bit more expensive for the adapter, but once I got installed the OS, the card was instantly recognized and I connected it to the time capsule. Also I'm using a legal copy of the Mac OS as an install, and the discussion of it is legal as long as you don't post where to get the Kalyway and other installs. I can PM the link to the site if you want. But the box serves as a dev box for Windows and linux as well (have them on separate discs controlled by the bios) and is a temp mac machine until I can finish saving for my macbook. I'm looking into maybe doing some iphone programming for fun. I've also spent time upgrading my powerbook and my roommates macbook pro to the 5gh 802.11n network and replacing logic board, hard drive and dvd rom to a dual layer dvd. I also opened my mac mini to upgrade the network card, dvd drive and memory. I wanted to upgrade the cpu but was short on cash saving for the Europe trip. I may buy some tools to open up a friend's iMac to replace a failing hard drive. I used to love to build computers but I my priorities shift to exercising. Wouldn't mind building another hackintosh for fun. But I guess I love constantly tinkering with computers. Terry
  12. Personally I love my contacts. Glasses bother my face (even the "light" ones) and left those ugly marks on the side of my nose, so I don't usually wear them unless I'm too lazy to put them in, which is when I'm at home or going to work. I like to wear my contacts in the gym because glasses bother me during my sets. Plus it's nice to have my full range of vision that you don't get with glasses. I got my first pair when I was about 19; I hated wearing glasses (people say I look better without them) so I was looking into contacts. My father was dead set against me getting them and had a fit when I went to buy some when my frames broke. He forbidden me to get a pair without buying glasses. Luckily, I had a pair of fake glasses (that cost $15) with me. I asked the store if they could put lenses in them and they told me yes. So I walked out with the contacts and the frames. Pop was pi$$ed, but he'll be alright... it was my money that I earned from working and putting myself through school so wasn't sure why he was acting a fool in the store! But I haven't wore my glasses regularly since then. Terry
  13. ^^I would be really appreciative of someone that thought so much of keeping the coaster line going for others to ride, that the ride ops had to stop the ride on the lift hill so they can deal with removing something you had no business bringing with you in the first place. I love having an additional 15 minutes added to the 45 I've already waited in line for. That's really bad advice IMO. That type of stunt warrants getting escorted out of the park with no refund. Terry
  14. Developers that try to pull the wool over my eyes being lazy. One told me to implement a simple change he had to jump through all kinds of hoops. I used to be one too (well not a lazy programmer, unless I found a tool to save me time), don't try it. I sent him 3 lines of code and said "Stop making it harder than it is." Terry
  15. ^It wasn't a dumb statement, he was just setting himself up to fail. ...and FAIL he did. Terry
  16. Not always true, but the percentages are high. I went to a BBQ restaurant in Kansas City and those ribs were so good I was chewing the bone like I was a dog! Since when do I have enough hair on my head to pull that off? And it's too much like a wig and I haven't worn one since I was six! (That's another story... but I was giving Rudy from the Cosby show a run for her money!) Besides that's a former American Idol contestant! Just a lesson for you kids that have ideas of stardom: Take down your Gay.com profile and delete your "cruising" accounts if plan on going mainstream! You don't want that coming up to haunt you! I almost went to the aquarium in Georgia, but I didn't have a lot of time to go in since I was walking around the square waiting for my friend to, um, finish taking dictation from a client in the room. Terry
  17. ^ He means "they're" right? Just remember: if you're trying to break someone off, get that grammar correct so you don't break yourself off! No rides for him; back to English class! Terry
  18. ^You know that was one of my thoughts as I was writing my post! And that line was one of my favorite South Park lines. I spit out my Crystal Light when I first heard it! Terry "May have to ask my Lesbian friends if they scissor" Weaver
  19. ^Righteous he is. I saw him in concert years ago and I've never laughed so hard in my life. Rudy went into his "Dolemite for President" speech and he saw some white people up front. (Meanwhile two plates of buffalo wings came out for my friend Sheila and I; we were tearing those wings up!) Anyway, he walked up to the white people and said "If I was president, I wouldn't kill the white people... We need workers to pick the cotton!" The whole place erupted in laughter and I had to do the Heimlich Maneuver on my friend because she started choking on a chicken bone! No one was quite ready for that because people were also spitting out their drinks laughing! Terry "No you didn't, Dolemite" Weaver
  20. Very Nice TR. It brought back memories of when my parents sent my brother and I cross country to L.A. on Amtrack. I'm sure it's not the same now as it was back then. Too bad the railroad companies here won't free up the tracks for better passenger railroads like they have in Europe. I think it would us be a more energy efficient nation. Terry
  21. Well I guess a lot of straight guys buy those girl-on-girl videos to see girls not have sex. Guess they're wasting their money, huh? (Too bad I can't answer this question like I want to; may have to open my forum back up and tell it like it 'tis) Who is this person and how old is he? Doesn't sound like he knows much about sex to make these opinions! I mean when you see a girl do it on film (and TRUST won't be that hard to find a video), get back to us! Terry "Have too many friends in the Sex industry to be this innocent" Weaver
  22. ^I drove to Wendy's to get a root beer float and drank that instead of watching TV. I gave up on MTV (and most TV programming) years ago. I can be only mad at myself if I turned on the VMAs and it fried my brain matter.
  23. ^Maybe they're leaving town for a while. My roommate is upset because he wanted to get Monday and Tuesday off for the hurricane since he works for Miami-Dade. "Hush your mouth." was what I told him. I want to have the day off too, but not like that! Terry
  24. Well luckily, you'll be fast asleep when the storm comes running through, so I guess the argument is moot. I doubt you'll be running around outside at 3am, so I guess that's a good thing. And now with it running at 33mph, it will be out of your area in no time. It may be waking you up about now though. But it's no fun when you have 70+MPH winds howling for hours and you hear lightning taking out the transformers then you hope the roof doesn't fly off because the windows sound like they're about to blow out. Then you have to make the plan to run downstairs into the small bathroom if the roof comes off because that becomes the safest place in the house. Terry
