  1. ^ When you are tripping on acid, anything is possible..... or so I hear..... or is it see?
  2. So, I'm in the midst of job searching, for about the fourth time in the last year and a half. However, this time it is a little different - I'm looking for something much more long term. So, I figured I would post a thread that is kind of comprehensive, and informational, and see if anyone wants to participate. Basically, share your job search stories here. Are you currently looking for a job and need some advice? Have you had bad interview experiences before? Have you ever been offered a job that you didn't think you were going to get? What mediums do you most for job searching? Really..... anything that you can think of. Ask advice, post resumes and cover letters...... anything that you need help with or you think will add to the thread, whether you are applying for a CFO position, or you are 15 and looking to fill out an application for White Castle. As for me, even though I'm doing the Secondary Education thing right now in school, I am currently looking for either a management position or a straight up sales job that I can stay at for a while. I have solid education with my Marketing major, plus, I was an Assistant Manager for two businesses, and owned a Limited Liability Corporation for two years in which I was the brains and braun behind. Right now I have my resume (right now I have about 9 working resumes that I tailor to the specific job listings as I go) on Monster and CareerBuilder, plus I'm constantly looking at craigslist and in the Sunday paper. I've gotten a totaly of 6 hours of sleep over the past 5 days because I have been applying for jobs (about 80 total so far) and have been trying to finish my final papers, and get stuff ready so we can move out of this apartment by Sunday. And, last week I interviewed with NutriSystem for an inside sales position, but I haven't heard back, so it is safe to say that I didn't get it (training starts Monday) - I figured it was time to step up the job search again. So, any suggestions? Thoughts? Anyone just getting out of school and looking for something/have something lined up? Anything job search related goes.....
  3. KW as in Kennywood? And then Great Adventure the next day? I really hope that is not the case. First, there is a bunch of stuff in the middle that you would be missing like Hershey and Knoebels. Plus, have you Mapquested the trip from Pittsburgh to Jackson, NJ? If anything, you should add at least a day in there to hit up a central PA park, or call a travel day or something.
  4. ^^ Oh..... my....... God....... Ferrari + Autobaun = I just wet myself Oh yeah, and Jessica Alba is ok too....... I guess
  5. Is it me, or is the whole jumping over stuff on a motorcycle old hat?
  6. Yup, I participated in that back in high school. It was kind of stupid because nobody really knew what was going on with it, or the entire student body would try to get us to talk and didn't take it seriously.
  7. I actually had a friend that was told the same thing. I know that I am not a doctor, but I totally disagree with the advise of many doctors that meat must be in the diet. The reason that she was probably getting sick was due to a lack in protein, which can be easily found in such things as legumes and green vegetables, as well as quinoa and oats. It is easy not to get sick being a vegetarian as long as it is done right.
  8. This makes me a little sick and light-headed that I probably won't be able to make it there this year.
  9. Shouldn't Flass Pass people be happy that they don't have to stand in line in the first place? Isn't that enough? I see that first point, but I don't agree with it. However, I have to say that the system is already a good value, but it is just getting better with a better seat. The problem is, I can see a lot of non-Fast Passers getting more bitter about it then they already are.
  10. Dick Trickle?
  11. Something that I haven't been on, like a highly rated wood like Balder I guess. And then when I'm in heaven, I'll be riding Hercules for eternity. If I end up in hell, Viper (Great Adventure) will probably be my fate.
  12. I didn't say that it wasn't put in. I just said that they are having problems with it.
  13. So has anyone heard anything about the progress on this? The last I heard is the park is having some problems with PP&L and the electric. They are still working on the trains and testing has not begun. At this point I'm not sure if it will be open for opening day.
  14. I will bite on this one. I'm sure I'll get reamed for it by someone... I foster kittens and cats primarily from a rescue group in the area. I have also taken in some kittens from PAWS in Philadelphia. PAWS seems to have this insane number of animals brought in every day, a lot of them newborn kittens - with and without their mother. A couple of months ago I went in to pick up new fosters, and they dropped me with 4 2 day old kittens without a mother. These kittens needed constant care - bottle feedings every 2 hours and a very warm place to sleep. It is very hard to keep newborn kittens alive without their mother (I believe only 25% make it). Nonetheless, 3 out of the 4 died 3 days later despite our efforts, which I guess is spot on with the statistics. Now, the way I see it, those cats should have been euthanized right from the start. They were severely disadvantaged without a mother to care for them, plus, their chance of living was miniscule. Also, with the absurd overpopulation problem and number of irresponsible pet owners out there, I feel like the resources used to try to keep these kittens alive could be used to help out those cats and dogs (and other animals) that are already in the shelters. Plus, if these kittens were to be kept alive, they would have been adopted out over a cat that had been sitting in the shelter for a couple of months (because everyone loves a cute and cuddly kitten) and then that poor other cat would be killed off to make room for the next batch of human cared for kittens. At the clinic that I volunteer at, if a stray or feral cat is brought in to be spayed, and she is pregnant, the babies are killed and disposed of. Some people are very sad that it is that way, but it is really for the best. Not only should there not be more cats in the world with so many that are already homeless, but I'm sure that mother cat does not want to go through the craziness of having babies suck on here, and then have to clean up their urine and crap. Basically, I believe in abortion, and I think that animal story kind of helps to share my view on it. "I can't believe it! You are a vegan yet you want to kill the animals, and humans too?" No. I don't want to kill the animals. Sometimes it is just necessary and more humane to do what I was just talking about. To me, a 1 day old kitten, or a human fetus are pretty much irrelevant beings. They don't have a personality, or any idea of what is going on in the world. They cannot put together rational thoughts, and honestly, if they can feel pain it would be news to me. I think that abortion is sometimes the most responsible decision that someone can make. If a child is going to be brought up with severe disadvantages (into poverty, with disability, without someone who is willing to care for them) then it is the right move to go ahead with abortion. Of course, there are people that take advantage of abortion and that is wrong (a girl in high school that I knew had 3 abortions that I knew of). Sometimes, it is just the right choice to make.
  15. Superman at Great Adventure was actually supposed to be built out in the middle of the lake in the back of the park, but when Jackson Township turned down the proposed plan, they had to clear out the space at the front of the park where the ride stands at that last minute. This looks like an interesting ride. I can't wait to see more of it.
  16. Personally I think those are for tearing into an apple, but I digress. So, if I am understanding correctly, there is just a bunch of stereotyping going on along with people either being intimidated by or having some kind of hate towards people that do different things than them - doing something different than the "norm"?
  17. ^^ Dear God I miss Pat's!!!!!! Screw Geno's. ^ There are people that hate all of humanity because they eat meat and whatever. It is kind of crazy. They are extremists. Thus, screw them too. Although I have questioned people for a variety of reasons, as well as government and organized religion, I in no way have hated all of humankind.
  18. ^ I was just going to suggest Stewart's. One of those with a root beer float might make you have a heart attack it is so good.
  19. What we're doing to animals is wrong? What about what animals do to other animals? Does the antelope deserve to be killed by the lion? Do mice want to be caught and killed by cats? If it is wrong for us to exploit animals then doesn't it make it wrong for other animals to exploit their fellow creatures? Aren't we ourselves, Homo sapiens, a species of animal? What I'm getting at here is that just as the lion exploits other animals for food, so do we. It just so happens that we can exploit on a massive scale thanks to technology. What you need to remember is that nature is one cruel b*tch, who care nothing for the well being and rights of animals. So from nature's standpoint, what we do to animals is just business as usual. Now I have nothing against veganism or vegetarianism, but if your one of them because you argue that it isn't natural to exploit animals, then you are sadly mistaken in my opinion. Just be aware that veganism/ vegetarianism is unnatural in humans.(In a way that makes being a vegan/vegetarian an exercise in separating yourself from the cruelty of nature). BTW, I'm not a vegan or vegetarian. Well, I am someone that believes that humans don't necessarily need to eat meat to be healthy, and I think that I'm an example of that, along with a very long line of vegetarians who have lived long and healthy lives. I don't have a problem at all with the way carnivorous animals do their business. There are a lot of animals that stalk, and prey on other animals. It is not in them to pick an apple from a tree - they have talons, or claws, or sharp teeth for a reason. And there is research out there that suggests that maybe humans aren't necessarily designed to eat meat, and other believe that we are omnivorous - it all really comes down to opinion which is why I kind of take your comment about veganism as being unnatural as kind of offensive. I just don't think that, as thinking and supposedly compassionate beings, we need to treat animals poorly. Sure, kill them and eat them if you would like. At some point in our existence we started to eat animals and haven't stopped. But is there a need to club them for not reason, or torture and poke them just for fun? Or yell at them while they are already scared enough in the pen? If you want to eat meat, then fine. And if you want to slaughter an animal on a farm for profit, then fine. I just can't see how someone can advocate the blatant mistreatment of another living thing.
  20. I don't know. Check out a store like Whole Foods. They sell organic, free range meats, and that is all that they sell. The only reason that the meat industry is the way that it is, is because of government regulated agriculture. For some reason everyone believes that there has to be this insane throughput of animals in order to meat the demands of the country, but it really isn't true. Farmers could do a much smaller scale and still meet the demand for meat. It would save on a lot of the environmental strain, and cause the animals to be treated in a much more humane way. The only reason I don't see that being done, ever, is because of corporate greed and the unwillingness to change protocol.
  21. What you are saying is called a Root Beer Float, and yes, they are very tasty. I personally enjoy making root beer slushies, where you gently blend the soda with some ice, and add anything that you want to it, like ice cream, or maybe some cherry liquor to give it a little extra flavor and a kick.
  22. Sounds like pissing into the wind to me. How does someone expect to make such a drastic change affecting so many people? It'd be like making the campus one religion, one skin colour, one nationality, one choice of music, etc etc. It's just arrogant to think that a petition could get thousands of people to act and think alike. That is pretty ridiculous. I mean, she is just going up to people without giving them any kind of information, and just expecting them to react to it, and then demeans them after they say no. That is just ignorant on that girls part. Personally, I don't look for that kind of change. I know that people aren't going to stop eating meat. It is just unreasonable to think that. However, sometimes I suggest that someone just eat one vegetarian meal during the course of the week. That in itself saves a lot of animals, plus, it might actually make the person feel kind of good for that day - a little less artery clogging. And I do get the point by Teacups, and I kind of agree. However, people don't see things like cows, minks, rabbits etc (whatever can be turned into coats, shoes etc) as domesticated, mostly because a lot of them aren't. People who say that they care about animals are usually talking about animals like dogs and cats and the like - domesticated animals that they see as their friends and family. And that is great! Really. At least they care about something. There are actually a lot of people that don't really know the process of making a fur coat, or a leather jacket, and that is the reason that they still continue to wear them, but I bet there are others that if they knew what happened, they would stop wearing all of that stuff, and I have experience with people like that. Of course, there are those that wouldn't care that animals get their skin ripped off alive. But, that is just how it is. I'm not looking to change the world, I'm just trying to get into people's heads and understand their thinking.
  23. God that place was suck a hole. I protest. Camelbeach was not mentioned.
  24. Actually, a tomato is a fruit I know, now I sound like a vegan jerk. Being vegan really isn't that hard. People make it hard on themselves though, whether it be that they only eat organic foods, raw foods, or in your example Finnish foods etc. I personally don't get that, but then again, a lot of people don't get why I'm vegan in the first place. If that is what they want to do, then so be it. Don't feel sorry for someone making a decision for themselves and the rest of the world, in their mind. It is their choice, and it really isn't that hard at all. Personally, I'm the best I have ever felt in my life. When I used to eat meat, I would get horrible chest pains from time to time. Ever since I went vegetarian, the pain has gone away, except for when I eat extremely large quantities of saturated fats, like when I eat french fries by the bucket load. Plus, I'm someone that believes the studies that milk and cheese are not that good for you in the first place. There are many studies that show that dairty products are a leading cause of breast cancer, prostate cancer, and heart disease, not to mention osteoporosis. Plus, it has been shown that dairy can cause acne in children, increased mucus in the lungs, and may cause diabetes. I know that, when I was still eating cheese, after a while of not eating pizza I would eat a whole pie, and then a few hours later I would be hacking up a lung. Not plesant. Also, I think that milk and dairy is just downright gross, and not really natural. And, there are studies that show that milk doesn't actually ad calcium to your system, but it actually takes it away, creating weaker bones. Now, I know there is a misconception that vegans just eat fruits and vegetables, but that is not true. As long as something does not contain dairy, eggs, honey, or some kind of animal byproduct like gelatin or something, it is far game. There are a ton of faux meats that are vegan, as well as cakes and other things like that. Heck, I go to Taco Bell on occasion and get a vegan bean burrito. Or I go to a pizza place and get a tomato pie. There are just so many options out there. And veganism is healthy if you do it right. Currently, I'm 5'10" and about 175 pounds, which I find to be fairly healthy. It is easy to gain weight as a vegan though, especially if you eat a lot of oils. I got up to about 202 this past summer because I was eating like a horse due to a medication that I was taking, which shows that I wasn't just eating salads. I get plenty of protein on a daily basis. I believe it is recommended that a person get 1 gram of protein per kilogram of weight in a day. And, I exceed that fairly consistantly with things like soy, legumes (beans and lentils), green vegetables (like broccoli, spinach, kale), and oatmeal. Plus, I get B12 from a pill, and a few other foods over the course of the day. Being vegan doesn't mean that I'm stuck to vegetales, or that I can't get the proper nutrients that are needed on a daily basis. If it is done right, it can be done. I know there are a lot of people that don't do it right, and suffer from it. There are a lot of people that try to lose weight being a vegetarian, but don't because all they do is eat veggie dogs or burgers, with tater tots every day. Or, people go vegan and lose 30 pounds in 2 months and look like a zombie. And then there is the other extreme, like when people body build on a vegen diet: http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/ . It happens, but if you do your research, and eat things properly, then there isn't a problem. Lastly, the brownie thing. I make some pretty good brownies! I just use vegan butter and egg replacer. There really isn't a difference!
  25. Quick answer - The no milk part of it is because of the way dairy cows are treated. Here is a link if you would like to check it out. http://www.unhappycows.com/ That's basically the short anwer. The same thing with eggs too, but I never did like eggs in the first place, at least by themselves. Since I have gone vegan, I don't eat products like cakes and stuff that are made with eggs, and even try to stay away from things with honey in them like pies, and some breads.
