PTR: Phillies Clinch the NL EAST
bigstevet07 replied to Josh Davidson's topic in Random, Random, Random
They won't put Lidge in for a one run game. It will either be Madson or Myers, provided that Myers is fully recovered from his back injury. Great photos, I wish I could have been there. Did you happen to get pics of what I think was the best moment of the night, the Harry Kalas tribute? I thought that was very cool of the team to run out to where the HK was and pay tribute to him. Too bad he wasn't hear to call it. I haven't been to Philly since 03 which was the last year the Vet was open. I'm going to be in the area the end of October and hoping I can take a tour of this beautiful ballpark. -
Something tells me Hanley Ramirez and maybe Dan Uggla are probably going to be gone, the old annual cut payroll drill. Then again, they might hold on to the nucleus with the new stadium coming.

If Redskin fans think its bad this year, just wait until the uncapped year that is more than likely coming. Snyder's head will explode. ^ I think there maybe more to the Marvin Harrison thing other than people don't think he can play anymore. Everyone thought he was this calm, quiet, nothing but business guy on the field. He never caused any distractions, just went out and put up monster numbers. Then the accusations start flying in about him being involved in a shooting outside his car wash in Philadelphia. Reports come out about a somewhat darker side to Marvin off the field to where people don't mess with him. I think that really shocked a lot of teams and they became gun shy (no pun intended) because they found out they really didn't know the guy. -

The Lions are somewhat improved as well. They weren't going to go winless again this year. Plus Zorn doesn't trust Campbell at all. That offense is offensive. -

^I wish Boise St could crash the BCS title game, but Texas will make the title game if they run the table as well. Even if Boise crushes teams like they have been, it won't be enough to offset the strength of schedule Texas will have from the Big 12. That hit on Tebow was crazy. At first i thought for sure he dipped his helmet, but it looks more and more like he got shoulder pads instead. That was the first time I've ever said "he may be dead," after seeing hit. It was just creepy seeing him lie there motionless and his teammates around him were completely shocked. -

^^ Good point Scott, I didn't think about Leaf's off the field stuff. But as a QB, Jamarcus is just horrible. I still don't know why they cut Garcia before the season started. ^At first I thought the receiver's foot might have been on the white too. But that angle from the back of the end zone shows a little green in between, although not very much. -

Favre's throw was great, but I think Greg Lewis is not getting enough credit for the catch. If he didn't have great awareness to drag that foot, the Niners win. Defensive delay of game is normally when the NT or one of the DT swats the ball before the Cente can snap it. Did anyone see the Seahawks green jerseys yesterday? They were god awful. On a final note, somewhere Ryan Leaf is smiling. Not because of the oxycotin he's taking, but because Jamarcus Russel is proving to be worse than Leaf ever was. -

I'm not necessarily going for the Halloween thing though. I'm going for the credits, so that is fine with me. Thanks for the info though everyone! -

Thanks, I kind of figured it would be in the 50's, I just wasn't sure if it gets colder quicker there than Nebraska. Has anyone been? I've heard tons about Universal's Halloween, Six Flags, and Cedar Fair, but I can't recall anything about Hershey's. -
I am going to be in the area from October 26th through November 1st. I am considering going to Hersheypark on the 30th. What are the crowds like for this event? Are all the coasters open? What is the normal weather like that time of year? Any tips and information would be greatly appreciated.

I'm actually surprised he has Brady that low. King is a noted Patriot homer. It definitely has to do with the era you grow up in I guess. I would have never ranked Graham and Baugh that high, even though I do know that they were the best at the position for their era. Orton 2-0 no TO's... Cutler 1-1 5 TO's, I'm sure that won't last much longer, weeks 4-11 are going to be really tough for Denver. -

So. since you've been there in person makes you more knowledgable on the subject? I've seen a few NFL games live in my time, and I haven't missed a Broncos regular season game whether live or on TV for many, many years. (thank you Direct TV!) I guess watching the game on TV instead of live doesn't allow me enough perspective on the subject? I have season tickets to a USHL hockey franchise here in Omaha, but I wouldn't say that I have more knowledge on the game than anyone else. EDIT: Scott beat me to it. That is basically what I've been trying to say all along, that he is not there yet so considering him the GOAT is crazy. -

You've basically proven our point about the system by mentioning these guys. They were all considered really good players at their position with the Pats, but have done absolutely nothing without that system. Why do you think McDaniels went out and signed Gafney? Because he is perfect for the system. Brady is unflappable in those situations, but I would suggest you go back and watch video on Elway or Montana. I would watch The Drive, The Drive 2, and one that gets forgotten is Elways last minute drive against Houston in I believe was the 1990 playoffs. It may have been 1991. You could even watch the classic Monday Night Football contest between Elway and Montana. Elway leads a last minute drive only to score too soon and Montana brings the Chiefs back. I believe that was the 1992 or 1993 season. Having to go 45 yards or so in the last two minutes for a FG is not quite as impressive as going the length of the field needing a TD to win the game. -

Like I said LONGEVITY. His TD average and rating is skewed because of his incredible season. He only threw for 28 TD's twice before that. Rating is the most overrated stat for a QB. Anyone that plays in a west coast style offense with short passes will benefit from it. And yes I don't think he will have a season like that again. It was truly one of a kind. As for my top 5, you need to look at the era they played in also. They played 80's-90's when pounding the rock was the norm. The fact they put up those numbers in that era is an acheivement in itself. The fact I have Elway number 1 is he put up those numbers and took those teams to Super Bowls with absolutely no decent receivers until Shanahan came to town. I noticed you threw Manning in there. I never mentioned him as I wouldn't have him in top 5 yet either. But he is much closer than Brady. Again I'm not saying he isn't a great QB, but calling him the G.O.A.T. over QB's in the past is kind of an insult to the history of the game. Give him time, he may get there eventually. -

I totally agree with your assesment on Brady. If I bring up its because of the system and people will lose their mind about it. To me he's very comparable to Kurt Warner. Warner is only great if the system fits his throwing style. See his stint with the Giants as proof. Ah, I forgot about Fouts. He was freaking awesome. I don't think Jim Kelly gets enough credit either just because they lost those Super Bowls. He didn't give up 52 points. He didn't miss that FG. -

Whats incredible about it is, Brady struggled for the first 3 quarters of the game only to HIS standards, yet still managed to set a Patriot record for completions in a game (39), pass for almost 400 yards, complete 74% of his passes, throw 2 TDs, for a QB rating of 97.8. That is better than 90% of QBs BEST games. UM, I'm not a Patriots fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I can tell you that Brady does not own the record for completions in a game. That would be Drew Bledsoe with 45. While Brady is a great QB, he is by no means the Greatest Of All Time either. I wouldn't even put him in my top 5 yet. I'm not saying he won't get there, but he's only been in the league what 8-9 years? He needs some more longevity to be considered. My top 5 would be (not necessarily in order other than Elway as tops) Elway Marino Montana Unitas Favre -

I think Delhomme is done. It looks like that surgery really affected his arm strength and can't make the throws he used to. I'm sure his confidence is shot too. Carolina is in trouble. They should have gone out and gotten a decent backup. -

I don't want him anywhere near Denver right now, but have no choice unfortunately. That was always the knock on Cutler though. He's got such a great arm and is so cocky he'll throw it anywhere no matter what the coverage is. It gets worse when you hit him a few times. He's still better than Orton though. -

Allow me to bask in the week one glory, as it won't last much longer. Orton 1-0, Cutler 0-1 with 4 INT's. Denver could very well be 2-0 if the defense plays well again. They host the Browns next. -
