I have a month in America, what can i do with it?

Next year my girlfriends going to America to do a camp America thing for a couple of months then when she finishes she can spend up to a month in the country before coming home. In that time I'm planing on going out there to see her, she thinks we should go to California as she’s been there and its ment to be the best but we could use the month anywhere in the US.

I've never been to the US before and want to make sure I make the most of it and ride the best roller coasters, I've looked at RCDB and the California Disneyland’s look a bit pants as far as roller coasters go but Knott's Berry Farm and Six Flags Magic Mountain look great but is it the best place in the US for my roller coaster thrills? I would love to go to cedar point but is there anything else in the area I would like?

I'll be on abit of a tight budget aswell, I'm thinking of about $1500 - $2000 but I really have no idea how much things are going to cost. We won’t be in theme parks all month but how much am I going to need for a week at the parks and a week sight seeing. I guess you have no idea how much I will need but any rough guides would be great and if $2000 isn’t enough I have a long time to save up.

Ok so if you’re like me and you just read all this without taking any in heres the short version:

If you had $2000 and a month to blow in the US what would you do?

Any replies would be great! I realise most people might refer me to the other thread in this forum about the California theme parks but I'm looking for more info than that, thanx

I don't know any suggestions west of Cedar Point but I can give many suggestions here on the east coast. The best thing to do IMHO is do a north to south tour maybe from Maine to Atlanta. Parks that would be on my iternary would be Funtown, Canobie Lake SFNE, Lake Compounce, SFGAdv, Dorney, Hershey, SFA, PKD,BGW, PC, and SFOG. Except that isn't a month. hmm maybe do the Florida parks too. And generally Freefallin you are lucky to have $1500 to blow on a month's trip. .

First of all, you have to know your cheap food here in America, its Cup o Noodle, or Top Ramen, Top Ramen goes for about .10 cents a pack, thats cheap eatin'.

As for where to stay, look up Motel 6. They usually have fairly clean room, and are usually more uh well there pretty cheap (sometimes).

You cand find rates on the internet, but if you try to stay to close to a park, it will cost you. try to distance yourself from the parks and you can find rooms from around $30 to $40 a night, if you really go cheap, you might find some as low at $20, but they may be a bit scary(insert our stay in Little Rock, at a total dive, to this day I am no longer allowed to pick the motels)

My best suggestion is to go to walmart, but some sandwich stuff, and a cheap ice chest, and eat out of your car, you will save a TON of money not eating out. If you have to eat out, hit Mcdonalds, Wendy's, Burger King, or whatever floats your boat, and try to go cheap,.

Remember, Motel 6, Walmart, Top Ramen (or Cup o Noodle, they are like 50 cents), sandwich stuff, and a $2.00 Ice chest, and your on your way to a cheepo vacation

have fun

Here's an idea. I forget the name but in Waffle House you can get a huge waffle, some meat(sausage or bacon), grits, eggs for $6.25 for breakfast and you can last to dinner! Motels vary from $20-50. The further south you go the cheaper the prices! Oh, and in New Hampshire and Delaware there is no sales tax! (except NH has an 8% meals tax ) I can tell you there will be toll roads, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware turnpikes, a very expensive bridge in Maryland , and a tunnel in Baltimore. So maybe that will help you plan. Turnpikes range from 50 cents to 10 dollars.

Freefall,

Where are you from? If you're from a EU country, the US will be dirt cheap for you! Decent Hotels for no more than $50/night. A Six Flags pass good at ALL SF parks for $50. Extra Value Meal at McDonalds for $4!

Nothing much is set in stone and I'm well open for sudgestions from anyone !

Me and my girlfriend (Charley) both live in England shes going 2 a kids camp in america as some kina helper, she gets free tickets to and from New york, after the camp she can stay in the country for up to a month beffor using her return flight, I'm planing on going out to she her for it, travling alot, then probably split up for the journey back (as we probaby wont want to end up and new york again)

I love roller coasters and want to go to loads of park and she wants to she lots of sights and famouse places (but has already been to new york, califonia, that big hole, and some other places when she was about 7) so i have to meet her 1/2 way and do things we both like doing.

As I'm from England i dont even know how long it takes to travel by car end to end. The north south tour sounds good but some of the parks Millenniumguy said about looked abit bog standard (I'm sure then ok but not worth travling round the world for) some looked great tho! what about west to east? could i do it stoping off at parks and sights all the way to california (or wherever) in a month? I've heard of route 66 goes east to west, thats not NY to California is it ?

I could drive all the way from here to russia if i wanted but i dont have a clue when it comes to the states, if anyone knows a good route or area would be great, california and florida look like get places but whats near then? i really want to go to cedar point and thats in the middel somewhere, your contrys to big!

The six flags pass sounds great! could i visit them all? and is it really just $50 for all the parks for free as many days as you want? thats so cheap! is that right?

Wow thanx for all the info! it sounds so dirt cheap! I guess i wont need that much after all, hmmm I'm hungry!

In england things are diffrent!!! if you came here with $10 you would get £5, (no big deal just the exchange rate!) but then you go to Mc donalds and its more in £s than in $!! so you spend all your money then you get your meal and its 1/2 the size of a US one! also dont even think abour putting petrol in your car here without taking out a loan 1st!

If you read this far well done give yourself a pat on the back you have done well and thank you very much for reading, sorry my message is sooo long, not much more now...

Thank you for all for you input, its helped loads! but i still got lots to plan so if anyone can sugest any routes or anything that might help I would be VERY Greatful indead! thanx

Going East to West seems like it would work good, because alot of the parks are close together in the north east. Now I dont know how your flight is comming in but if its in NYC, then you could maybe start with going to New Jersey and hit up Kingda Ka. Then you could just go through PA and NY because Hershey,SFDL, and CP are pretty much all in the same direction and are all spread out about 3 to 4 hours apart from each other, and they all have good rides. And then you could just go West from there. Now that may sound stupid and I dont even drive yet, but its just seems the best way to start.

Thanx Coasterlicious,

I've been looking at that route and its looks good, I cant really find a good map of all the US theme parks so I've had to make my own and post it in another forum as I cant post pictures in this one so please take a look at : http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=13371

These are the prices I have found so far:

Six flags: $50 all theme parks pass (is this correct and does it include Zoos and water parks)

Hershey: Ride-All-Day Wristband only $19.00 (Includes unlimited rides, entrance to ZOOAMERICA when entered through HERSHEYPARK, and the Aquatheatre Show)

CP: $68 You will receive a total of four tickets (one "Day One" Cedar Point ticket, one "Day One" Soak City ticket, one "Day Two" Cedar Point ticket and one "Day Two" Soak City Ticket.) + A surcharge ($20 Cedar Point; $10 Soak City) will be applied per ticket if used any other day. I was going to do two days in CP and one day in the water park for the extra $10

Ok so anyone know where I can go from here in a California direction? thanx,

Make sure you hit Kennywood, which is south of Pittsburgh. It has some great coasters, and the traditional park feel (and the Polish sausages) is great.

Kennywood looks like a nice little park with some good woodie action, if it was in England i would go for sure but its alittle to small to see, My girlfriends says we need to do more travling so no small park unfortunatly. I'm going to have to choise wisly to get the best parks and keep her happy
