PhishyBrewer Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 So as some of you might know... I'm a brewer by trade. I work for one of thee largest brewing companies in the world. Well... brewing the same thing day in and day out get's old REAL quick. So what I wanted to do was start brewing my own stuff at home. This was test brew for sure. I made a lot of mistakes and I'm not setting my hopes high for this brew to taste awesome. Brewing from 750BLS to 5gals is a big difference and a challenge. Here are some teaser photos. coasters 4 me Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 When will you be able to taste it? I am sure it will taste nice. And how long does it take to make beer?
PhishyBrewer Posted May 21, 2006 Author Posted May 21, 2006 ^A brew like this will take 2 weeks to ferment in the carboy. Then after that I will prime it with corn starch and a bottle it. It's needs to sit in the bottle for 2 weeks before it can be consumed.
niiicolaaah Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 The third picture makes me laugh. It just makes me laugh, because I am a silly girl.
PhishyBrewer Posted May 21, 2006 Author Posted May 21, 2006 ^Kind of reminds you of Disneyland Hong Kong... doesn't it?
DerekRx Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 ^It reminds me of what I do when I drink too much beer. Looks like the kettle feels the same way!
robbalvey Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 Wow...makes me miss the days of my home brewing. Funny. I used to really like making beer, but I rarely drink the stuff! --Robb

Maybe you should restart brewing and make a batch for the next TPR BBQ. Theme Park Pale Ale Robb's Red Ale Six Flags Stout ERT ESB
cfc Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 The third picture makes me laugh. It just makes me laugh, because I am a silly girl. Hmm--it is an amazing simulation of what happens after consuming a keg of brew.
CoasterJunkie Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Wow that brings me back to when I lived at home. My stepfather used to brew at home. I used to hate when he would cook everything on the stove. I never was a fan of that. I used to love helping him out though. I used to help bottle and stuff, and watching it ferment was cool too. Good luck on your new brew!!
DerekRx Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Jim Koch started Sam Adams in his kitchen. Wally, you may be the next big thing to hit the beer market! I'll be able to say "I gave him HopDevil once!" proudly. Hope it turns out good and not skunky.
imdrunk Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 Good luck with the brew. Keep us posted on how it turns out. Do you plan on filtering after fermentation? For my first brew, I regret not filtering to remove the chill haze. It turned out great, but it was a bit cloudy. It was one yummy IPA.
Kroger8 Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 What is it that makes a beer taste/smell skunky in the first place... St. Pauli Girl reeks of it...
PhishyBrewer Posted May 26, 2006 Author Posted May 26, 2006 Good luck with the brew. Keep us posted on how it turns out. Do you plan on filtering after fermentation? For my first brew, I regret not filtering to remove the chill haze. It turned out great, but it was a bit cloudy. It was one yummy IPA. I don't plan on filtering this beer in any means. Gypsum was added during the brewing process, so that will cut down greatly on the cloudiness. Calcium Sulfate is great to add after the the steeping of the grains. It's collects a lot of those proteins in the beer that create that cloudiness haze.
trustkill22 Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 Gypsum??? Isn't that that seed that people eat these days to trip out and stuff on. The beer is looking good Phishy. All you have to hope for is all the hard work pays off and it comes out good.
PhishyBrewer Posted May 29, 2006 Author Posted May 29, 2006 ^I have purchased a large fridge for the garage so I can ferment the beer at the exact temperature I want it. The next batch so be just about perfect.
PhishyBrewer Posted June 3, 2006 Author Posted June 3, 2006 More equipment add this week. It's getting bigger and bigger. http://www.brainville.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=361
